Just so my friend from Buffalo knows what's on the line in Friday's game. The bolded teams are my selections in the D3 Men's National Pick Em League. Those first 4 picks were all correct on Wednesday night so I'm starting out 4-0. Impress upon those Bengals you cozy up to, that the magicman needs them to take care of business on Friday night. Failure to do so could result in some ugly forecasts down the road.  ???

Week 4
Wed December 2nd
Alfred St @ Penn College 6:00pm
Birmingham Southern @ LaGrange 7:30pm
Wittenberg @ Wabash 7:30pm
Augustana @ UW-Whitewater 8:00pm

Fri December 4th
Cortland St @ Buffalo St 7:30pm

"Ugly forecasts"?  Ooowwee, don't want anymore of those!. You are putting some pressure on my beloved Bengals Magic 1!!!. However I do feel that if the Bengals keep their turnovers under 10, assists over 20, keep Esterfaa off the 3 pt line, Lydon and Joseph off the glass and prevent Carter and Morales from quarterbacking the Red Dragons offense and my Bengals stay out of foul trouble......then Buff State may have a chance!

My goodness, I'm getting as bad as you. Almost 1 a.m. and I'm up posting on D3hoops.  I gotta stop hanging with you dude.  You are a bad influence........and I can't wait for 7:30!!!! ;)

Go Bengals!!!

My wife tells me I've been a bad influence on her for life. ::)

All-Time

Magicman,
I have thoroughly enjoyed your posts the past 3 years. The time and effort you put into the SUNYAC Men's Basketball Conference is outstanding. I would race home to read your posts they were that good. I also enjoyed Bengalsrule's post as well.
The love you have for the Plattsburgh Cardinals is unconditional and they are lucky to have you.
But, this is the year of the Oneonta Red Dragon's and I will be representing them in some posts if you and Bengalsrule don't mind. Not that you guys need someone else representing the conference, you guys certainly do a fantastic job.
I'm a novice at these posts so please bare with me. I can't compare to your beautiful write-ups and concise details you give of all the games, but I will be making some predictions now that league play is starting up this weekend.
It should be an outstanding season with tons of surprises.

All-Time

Quick Predictions for tonight:

Buffalo State over Cortland- The Red Dragons do not recover from the loss to Ithaca. The Buffalo State Arena is a tough place for these young Red Dragons to open up the SUNYAC Season.

Oneonta all over Potsdam- The Red Dragons are coming off a huge win against Hartwick and will not have a let down especially at Home.

Plattsburgh too quick and athletic for New Paltz. New Paltz usually starts off with a zone so I hope Mr. Correa has his 3 point shot going.

Brockport over St John Fischer- Coach Dunne is a genius at making adjustments after the bad lose to Rochester.

Geneseo rolls past Robert Wesleyan in the Wendy's classic with or without John Decker.

Oswego takes care of business over Fredonia.

Well let me be the 1st to welcome you to the D3HOOPS boards. We definitely do enjoy SUNYAC hoops fans and , to the best of my knowledge, we have never had a Oneonta fan here ( I'll defer to some of the more "senior" posters here about past participants). There used to be a fan from New Paltz but he faded when they faded. Potsdam, Cortland, Oswego, Brockport and Geneseo all have supporters that come thru occassionally. And every now and then some "magic" dude may chime in about some birds from up north! Also.....

I can't wait to see the rest of your predictions for the 'Yac kickoff tonight.  Having 2 prognosticators should make for some serious post game conversations!  Hope your predictions get up before halftime of the women's game.

Something to chew on  .....

Cortland MAY be minus B. Estarfaa and Z. Lydon. Both injured in earlier week slip at Ithaca. RDragons will need to shoot better than in three-quarters  of their contests thus far

From the poster who 10-plus years ago supplied the game-by-game 'YAC roundup for a few years .......those late hours are a thing of the past from sunny Florida. We yield to 'The Owl' for the most part -- the Magicman and his epic Cardinal replays!!!!

All 10 teams in action today spread out over 6 games. SUNYAC play begins in earnest

Roberts Wesleyan  vs    Geneseo State    6:00 PM   Wendy's College Classic @ Univ of Rochester
The Redhawks will be a tough team to handle for the Knights and last year were beaten by them 75-63 in the Wendy's Classic. Both teams lost a lot of talent and perhaps the Knights have reloaded better than the Redhawks. The point spread on this game is only a 3 point margin in favor of the Knights. I'll go with them to pull out a 77-71 victory.

St. John Fisher   vs  Brockport State   6:00 PM  Wendy's College Classic @ Roberts Wesleyan

Much as I'd like to see Brockport take down these Cardinals I think that it's a tall order. The oddsmakers have made Fisher a 9 point favorite and they will probably win this game. But I want to root for the Golden Eagles even though Fisher's big man Keegan Ryan is from my hometown, so I'm going with my heart instead of my head and picking Brockport to pull off the upset by a 73-70 final score

Plattsburgh State    at    New Paltz State    7:30 PM

Cortland State   at     Buffalo State        7:30 PM

Potsdam State   at     Oneonta State        7:30 PM

Oswego State   at     Fredonia State        7:30 PM

The predictions for the first conference games of the year.

Plattsburgh State    at    New Paltz State    7:30 PM

The Cardinals are coming off a solid 77-65 win over St. Lawrence. The Saints beat another Plattsburgh opponent that we will face on 12-12, the Middlebury Panthers, by a 63-57 score. And Middlebury defeated New Paltz by an 80-63 score, at the Hawk Center, back on November 24th. Are you following this? The Hawks have struggled after opening the season with a win over local rival Vassar College and have dropped 4 straight. The Cardinals laid an egg when they invaded Hawk Center last year as New Paltz put a 69-55 licking on them to split the season series. The Cardinals have made this a one-sided series however, over the past 9 years as they hold a commanding 17-3 record against the Hawks. The oddsmakers haven't let that fact go unnoticed either, as they have made the Cardinals an 8 point favorite. Hopefully, the Cardinals don't take the court with bus legs. Cards win this one, 82-71.

Cortland State   at     Buffalo State        7:30 PM

This is the featured SUNYAC Game of the Week.

The Red Dragons are coming off a loss to their local rival, Ithaca, and now may be shorthanded as they invade the Queen City. The Bengals may also be without top scorer, Lovell Smith who hasn't played since the season opener. Both teams should be playoff bound this year but have bigger goals in mind than just making the SUNYAC playoffs. The Bengals already have solid home court wins this year over Hobart and Nazareth. They own a 6-5 record against Cortland over the past 5 years and are 5-1 at home during that stretch. Cortland is 3-1 but has yet to win against a team with a winning record. Of course they have only played one team with a winning record...Ithaca. The oddsmakers have made the Bengals a slim 3 point home favorite but i thin they will win by a few more than that. Buffalo State takes this one by an 87-80 final score.

Potsdam State   at     Oneonta State        7:30 PM

The Bears are still winless on the season and their luck won't get any better tonight when they travel to Oneonta. These Red Dragons are favored by a double digit 19 point margin, the biggest spread of the night. Oneonta almost took down Franklin and Marshall on the road, and beat their local rival Hartwick pretty handily the other night. They will win pretty handily tonight as well. Oneonta 86 Potsdam 62.

Oswego State   at     Fredonia State        7:30 PM

This game is another mismatch with one of the top teams in the conference taking on one of the lower ranked teams in the league. The oddsmakers have made Oswego a double digit 14 point favorite and I think they win by more than that. Fredonia finally got a win the other night against Alfred but lightning doesn't strike twice, at least not that quickly. Oswego, undefeated at 6-0, has a tendency to play down to their opponent at times, and the MOV could be less than it should be. Still I see the Lakers winning this one by a 76-59 final score

magicman

Brockport leading St John Fisher 38-26 with 15:44 remaining in the 2nd half.

magicman

Brockport just putting a whipping on St John Fisher. They now lead 62-37 with 7:40 to play in the game.

magicman

Geneseo falls to Roberts Wesleyan  85-82 after leading by a 78-69 score with 3:20 left to play. Knights get outscored 10-0 as the Redhawks forge into a 79-78 advantage. Justin Ringen scores to put Geneseo back in front but the Redhawks close out the Knights with a 6-2 run to end up on top. Tough loss for the Knights and one they will have 2nd thoughts about for a while.

That lead with 3:20 was about the point in the game I walked in the door at the Palestra. #justsayin

Time for the annual SUNYAC forecast of the Regular Season final standings.

1.   Brockport State

2.   Buffalo State

3.   Oswego State

4.   Geneseo State

5.   Plattsburgh State

6.  Cortland State

7.  Oneonta State

8.  New Paltz State

9.  Fredonia State

10. Potsdam State

I can see any one of the top four teams winning the regular season crown. It will come down to injuries, and which team the basketball gods decide to favor. The next 4 teams will duke it out for the final 2 playoff spots. I really think when it's all said and done it will be Plattsburgh and Cortland claiming those 2 spots but if Oneonta     gets in there I wouldn't consider it an upset. If New Paltz gets a playoff spot...well that I believe would be an upset. The tiebreakers may come into play this year to determine the playoff teams. As usual the teams that protect their house, sweep the bottom 2 teams and go 5 of 6 against the bottom 3 teams, will have a leg up on any team that doesn't follow that formula.

LET THE GAMES BEGIN  and good luck to all the participants on all the teams. Hope no one suffers a serious injury, that we get at least 2 NCAA bids (3 would be even better like 2 years ago) and that Plattsburgh State gets one of them. ;D
