Crunch time 74-69 Buff Stae leads 42 seconds to go Lehman just got a turnover and took a time out. Hang on Bengals and foul if you have  a 3 point lead and only seconds left to play...please. ???  And no fouls earlier than that.

Wow Lehman down by 3 with 34 seconds to go and a Lehman player is called for a technical foul. Bengals hit both free throws and then score a home run on the ensuing inbounds play with a long pass down court for a layup and one.  Bengals up 78-71 after missing the free throw. Lehman scores on their possession and fouls. Bengals make 1 of 2 to boost the lead to 79-73 Lehman misses a 3 pointer and Lehman fouls again. Nico McLean makes them both to make it 81-73. This game is in the bag now.

Final score is 82-73 Good job Bengals.

Bengals Mike Henry named MVP and Kevin Marmolejos named to the All Tournament team. Way to go guys.

News article in USA Today that Knicks player Cleanthony Early was shot early Wednesday.

Then it stated that a group of people wearing ski masks surrounded his uber cab and they robbed him of jewelry and other items including a gold necklace and gold caps on his teeth.

Damn they be tough in Queens when they take your teeth right out of your mouth now.  ??? And then they shoot you in the knee just to be mean I guess. :P :(

Pg04-Sorry I didn't get right back to you but went out after making my post. The tourney used to be held at Embry-Riddle, but since they are now a D2 program it has been moved to the Ocean City Convention Center downtown. This was first year being held there and Brian Streeter is learning the ropes with dealing with the city rather than the college. It is a nice place and convenient. I enjoyed the games even if we couldn't get by JC. Let's have a great SUNYAC season--good luck to all!!!

I love NY...( tune playing along with words).  Another game ... another win....another day that I'm proud to be a Bengals fan! :D. Must admit, while watching eastern conn crush NJCU by 30 something, I'm thinking that maybe our legs are gone too! After all the nearly 3 hr game Tuesday night took one helluva toll on my beloved BENGALS!  But I was wrong. They answered every call and allowed the few Bengal faithful ( including my brother, 2 nephews and favorite niece) to have a reason to shout in an arena where they were outnumbered 6-1!!

I'll let Magicman do the stats and other stuff that only he can do. I'm just glad that we won, glad that I met All-time, ecstatic that my brother and his family drove an hour and a half from Brooklyn and happy that it's not snowing on the road home.

Pray for New Paltz

Go BENGALS!!

Interesting. Yes I think that's probably a better place to hold it anyhow. Hopefully there will be video the next time. Or go to Vegas and do the d3hoops.com tourney  ;D. That may be a monetary stretch though. Onward now to the conference schedule!

Bengals & Magic got a funny story that happened today about bad refs that I think you 2 would like:

In the JV game today, one of our players gets called for an offense foul.  He turns to the ref and says "that's a bad call."  Ref gives him a technical foul.  Coach asks the ref what he said and the ref told him that the player told him it was a bull$#!t call, but if he said it was a bad call he wouldn't have done anything.  So the kid sits for the rest of the quarter, goes into start the 4th quarter and according to him the ref asks him "I want to make sure you really said it was a bull$#!t call."  SMFH  ??? :o  ::)

Not sure what else I missed!  I'm beat and enjoying the ride home. More to come later. Hope you spread the word to some of your "voting" friends. Lehman beat #17 Brooklyn in their last game! NJCU was trumpeted on dec 16 as one of the hottest teams in the country. Lehman was in a 8 game win streak an NJCU was on a 7 game win streak. Both teams are undefeated in thier conference and the early favorite to win thier conference Chip. Add a win over Oswego who was on a 4/5/6 ? game win streak and things are shaping up. If the voters don't see us worthy of a vote or 2 next week then it is what it is !

I think I'm gonna go back to sleep now. Lord knows I don't want to be tired if asked to drive  :o ( stop laughing).

Oooohhhhhh. Yes All-time told me that IF I journey to the north country next weekend, to have cab fare ready if I need a ride from a.....Burlington or was it Montreal. Anyway he let me know for a little bitty tiny fee all my moving around would be covered!  Good to know because that's a long way to go and not have a "willing" tour guide to show me around  ;).

Had the conversation during warmup and he left before team introductions! I was getting in hype mode!! ;D

Time to recap the games that have taken place over the past few days. Time constraints will make these shorter than usual with only the principal players getting a mention.

Mother Nature finally got pi$$ed off enough at El Nino` and struck back yesterday with the season's first big snowstorm here in the North Country. Dropped 5 to 6 inches of heavy wet snow on us with drifts considerably deeper followed by sleet and freezing rain. Still digging out from that mess. Can't really complain though. Winter which can arrive as early as the end of October up here decided to hold off until the very end of 2015. Anytime you can shorten winter from 5 months to 3 (Jan, Feb and Mar) well you jump all over that option, especially when you're my age. 8-) Back to basketball.

December 28th  Oneonta State 82 Central 77 in San Juan Puerto Rico

The Red Dragons faced the toughest of the 2 holiday games on the first day of their island visit. I had Oneonta winning this one by an 85-81 final and I didn't miss either team's score by much. I had a 4 point margin of victory instead of the actual 5 point win.

After some early ties and lead changes, Oneonta was down for much of the first period, falling behind by 10 points on 3 separate occasions. They managed to cut that deficit to 6 points at the break.

Lawrence Coleman caught fire early in the 2nd half and he nailed 3 triples in the first 4 and a half minutes, the last one giving the Red Dragons their first lead since they were in front 11-9 early in the opening half.  Seven ties abd four lead changes would follow until another Coleman basket on an inside move put Oneonta in front at 73-71 with 3:31 left to play.Another layup by Seth Thomsen made it a 2 possession game and Mikey McElroy stretched the lead to 6 points with a 3rd unanswered basket off an offensive rebound. The Red Dragons would make 5 of 6 from the line to seal this one and set the Island partying in motion.

Lawrence Coleman led Oneonta with 20 points. Mikey McElroy had 17 points and 5 rebounds. Jackson Zuvic had 12 points with 4 rebounds while Jack Dignon had 11 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and a block. The old 4,3,2,1, deal.

The Red Dragons were outrebounded 37-29 but won the turnover battle despite handing it over 18 times. The Dutch gave it back 26 times. Thank you. Shooting stats were fairly even, as Oneonta made 1 more field goal and 3 more free throws than Central did. That was the 5 point MOV.

Colby Taylor of Central was the game's high scorer with 24 points. Taylor also captured rebounding honors with 8 boards. Nice effort in a losing cause.

Nice win for Oneonta and the SUNYAC to grab a victory from the top rated team in a conference that was  ranked 5 notches above ours.

December 28th Brockport State 100 Bridgewater State 95 3 OT

This was a game that the Golden Eagles should have ended, without all the drama, in regulation winning by a comfortable margin. I had predicted an 83-61 Brockport win and quite frankly expected it to be a bigger MOV than that. The Golden Eagles got out of the gate slowly however and allowed this team to not only hang around but to forge an 8 or 9 point lead on numerous occasions throughout the first half as the Bears went into the break up by 8 at 36-28.

Needing to come out and assert themselves quickly, the Golden Eagles had just the opposite occur, as that 8 point Bears lead turned into a 15 point lead, 2 minutes after the opening possession. Give the Eagles credit, they didn't panic. Instead Brockport went on a 12-2 run of their own, to cut that lead to 45-40, in just under 4 minutes time. They followed that up with a 2nd outburst, this time a 16-8 spurt over another 4 minute span, and they had a lead for the first time since early in the first half, at 56-53. It was extended to a 9 point advantage at 68-59, and then their biggest margin at 74-63 with only 3:21 left to play. Things were finally going along as planned. But from that point on the Golden Eagles couldn't buy a basket as they missed everything they threw up as well as a number of free throws and they let the Bears right back into the game.

A Bridgewater 3 pointer followed by a pair of free throws cut the lead to 6 points and when Port missed the front end of a 1&1 the Bears jumped all over that chance as they buried another 3 pointer to make it a single possession game. Once more Brockport missed a 1&1 opportunity and once again Bridgewater State made them pay with a jumper that cut the lead to a single point at 74-73.

Now there was only 21 seconds left to play and the Bears had to foul sending the Golden Eagles into the double bonus. Single bonus...double bonus...it didn't matter as Brockport missed both free throws. Only this time Levi Pace was there to grab an offensive rebound and put it back in for a 3 point Brockport lead. It was at this point in the game that this writer was pleading for Brockport to foul and not let Bridgewater get off a 3 point attempt. But my words... like silent raindrops fell (with apologies to Paul and Art) and the Bridgewater player released his long range bomb with 4 seconds to go and it was nothing but net. Port failed to get off a shot and the teams headed to OT.

Not much happened in the first overtime period. Brockport  made 1 layup, committed 1 turnover and missed 7 other shots. Bridgewater State made 2 free throws, missed every shot they took, all 6 of them and committed 1 turnover. Neither team managed a single point in the final 4 minutes of the overtime period. On to overtime # 2.

This time the teams traded baskets and free throws for the entire 5 minute period. and as crunch time reared its ugly head the Golden Eagles were once more in control with a 3 point lead at 90-87 after Brockport made 1 of 2 free throws. It would have been too much to ask, to make both of the free throws, and make it a 4 point, 2 possession lead with 9 seconds left, of course. And so Bridgewater State has to take the ball out of bounds under Brockport's basket and go the length of the court, hoist up another 3 pointer and pray. So how about if we don't let them do that. Maybe pressure them on the inbounds, pressure them as they bring it upcourt to make them use a little clock, and then foul them right around midcourt with just a few seconds on the clock. Nah, let em get off another 3 pointer. Port did, and the Bears made another bomb at the buzzer to send it to a 3rd overtime. Not only did they do it again...it was the same guy who did it the first time. Mama mia!!!

Overtime #3 coming right up. It was right about here that the John Carroll coach lit his victory cigar to celebrate the win that his team would get over Brockport the next day.

In the 3rd extra session the Golden Eagles scored first on a layup by Olusola Adeniran. After the Bears turned it over, Adeniran was fouled and he made 1 of 2 to put Port up by a 93-90 score. The Eagles wouldn't make another field goal but did manage to go 7 of 10 from the line to close out the Bears in less dramatic fashion.  What's interesting to note is the Bears were down 98-95 with the ball and 13 seconds remaining. Once again Brockport allowed them to get off a 3 point attempt to tie the game with 4 seconds left. They finally missed and Port walked off crawled off the floor with the win.

Brockport got a big game from Hamed Shamseldin with 31 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Clifton Lylerly had 20 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists. Levi Pace had 14 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Ismael Pierre also came off the bench and just missed a double-double with 13 points, 9 rebounds, 5 steals and 2 assists.
Port won the rebounding battle with a slight 54-49 edge and only had 14 turnovers, to 22 for the Bears.
They outshot the Bears from the field but Bridgewater had better luck from long distance and from the line. It was Brockport's lack of success from the line that was the major reason that this game even got to an extra session. The Eagles were only 21 of 37 from the line and a number of missed free throws at the end of regulation is how the Bears got into bonus basketball.

Bridgewater was led by Rocky DeAndrade with 28 points and Joseph Carty with 20.
