Magicman,
Hoopsville had ETBU's coach on tonight and I think he said that Samuel had used up his eligibility last month so he wouldn't be playing anymore.

ronk,

Thanks for letting me know. Plus K. My search is over thanks to you. I missed the show tonight as Plattsburgh had a rare Sunday afternoon game due to schedule changes with Geneseo. Then came home and got some much needed shut eye. Had to tape both NFL games since I was courtside while the Pats-Broncos played and sleeping while the Panthers-Cardinals played.

I just listened to the Hoopsville show on replay and you're right... the East Texas Baptist coach did verify that he's out of eligibility.

I briefly considered the fact that he ran out of eligibility but they were still listing him on the roster and I thought if he wasn't eligible he would have been deleted. I figured he must be hurt and kept hoping I'd see his name in a box score. Now I know I won't. Usually if a guy only has 1 semester of eligibility left, they sit out the first semester and join the team for the stretch run. Maybe he had a chance to graduate at the end of the 1st semester and that's why he didn't, but if he's still in school he made a funny choice to play the 1st semester instead of the 2nd.It certainly screwed up my chances in the futures league. Figures the one guy in the draft who only has 1 semester of eligibilty and uses it for the 1st semester ends up on my team. :P I know I won't be much of a threat in the futures league with no Samuels and no Medenjanin from Skidmore. The old "wait'll next year" has officially kicked in...already. ::)

Might be worth an appeal to the NCAA; at least, it will give them a chance to vet their appeal mechanism. ::)

with age came?

Something tells me that last night's win, for New Paltz, was about more than just basketball!!!!![/bengals rule quote]

This board is amazing....  Magic's post on 1/23/2016 at 3:14.52 AM was among the funniest moments in my basketball lifetime and Bengalsrule quote above may be one of the most poignant!!  plus karma to both as I am now armed and dangerous when it comes to Karma!! :)

New D3hoops Top 25 poll out on Monday night.

Plattsburgh State is the only SUNYAC school receiving any mention as the Cardinals check in with 16 points, good enough for the #33 spot. Last week they had 22 points and the#32 spot. After a 2-1 week they got a little less support. A 3-0 week may have moved them into the Top 25 but I knew that was asking too much. Happy with a 2-1 week as they continue to retain sole possession of 1st place. Another big week of game in the YAC as we continue to beat up on each other. My Cardinals with a tough road trip to face a talented Buffalo State team on Friday and a resurgent Fredonia team on Saturday. The Blue Devils are 4-4 in their last 8 games after starting out 1-7 in their first 8 games.

Lancaster Bible as predicted moved up a couple of spots as they remain undefeated and will continue to do so in the NEAC conference. They moved up from #20 to #18. Their point total increased from 114 to 131. I expect them to peak at around the #13 or #14 spot as they continue to remain unbeaten, inching up a spot or so at a time, over the next 3 weeks.

NYU dropped a few spots from #17 down to #22 as they lost 96 points from the voters. Seems like this happens every year with the Violets, as I mentioned earlier.

Oneonta who went 1-1 last week  and St John Fisher who lost the only game they played both failed to get any points this time around. No other team in the East Region received any points.

The SUNYAC Player of the Week for the week ending 1-24 was the same guy who was Player of the Week last week...Justin Ringen.  This marks the 3rd time this season that Justin has won the weekly award having also won it back on December 7th. I failed to check last Monday to see who won the award so I've included the write up from the SUNYAC website for both weeks.

This week that just ended:

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Justin Ringen (JR)
Geneseo, Guard (Huntington, N.Y./Harborfields)
"Justin Ringen averaged 27.5 points and 5.5 rebounds while shooting 51.4% from long range in a pair of games for the Knights last week. He scored a career-high 33 points, including 7-of-8 three-pointers, and grabbed five rebounds at Potsdam on Saturday before totaling 22 points and grabbing six boards at Plattsburgh on Sunday."

I got to witness the 22 points at Plattsburgh on Sunday. After Justin and his teammates ripped the Cardinals vaunted 3 point defense for ten first half triples I was more than a little worried about the outcome of the game. The Cardinals were able to limit the Knights to only four 3 pointers in the second half and we were fortunate to come away with a W. I don't know if we will be so lucky when we meet them in Geneseo.

Got a chance to meet and speak with Justin after the game. Nice young man and a very good player. Taller than I thought he was as I had him as being around 6'3". He's definitely 6'5". He was sitting in the bleachers as the ladies were taking the floor, for their game. Next to him was Cardinal player, Jon Patron, who went to the same high school as Justin. Would have liked to have seen Justin here at Plattsburgh State, I know we wanted him. If we had Justin on this year's team, I'd pencil us in for the Final Four right now. Just dreamin.

Here's the SUNYAC write up for the week ending 1-17 when Justin also won the weekly hardware:

MEN'S BASKETBALL PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Justin Ringen (JR)
Geneseo, Guard  (Huntington, N.Y. / Harborfields)
"Justin Ringen averaged 21.7 points and 6.7 rebounds in three road victories for Geneseo last week. He started with 17 points and nine rebounds in a 77-76 victory at Cortland on Tuesday, before pouring in 28 points, including 7-of-11 three-pointers, in an 87-80 win at Fredonia on Friday. He finished the week with 20 points (all in the second half) in a 79-72 win at Buffalo State."

Sorry I missed this the first time around Justin, I'll apologize to you in person when (I hope ) you make a return visit to Plattsburgh on February 26th for the SUNYAC Tournament Semifinals. ;D

Not to beat a dead horse, but this is why I don't grasp why some of the Top 25 voters keep voting for them in the out-of-conference schedule. I did it once and got burned. Won't do it again unless I see an out-of-conference schedule worth voting for. Considering the schedule they put together for themselves this year, they SHOULD have a good record. But it doesn't NOTHING to prepare them for UAA play and that is what I am waiting for now-a-days with NYU. I am impressed that they didn't go 0-2 this past week and beat Wash U, but let's be honest... that isn't the Wash U team we are accustomed to - they are having an off season.

I know NYU ducks teams when they start to get better. There are a few NJ teams who have improved, beaten NYU in the past, and no longer get a call back regarding future games. What frustrates me even more, coaches use Top 25 rankings as recruiting items/tactics. I know when I am voting for a team that the coach will use that not only in promotion but in recruiting. If a coach can simply say, we are ranked in the Top 25 eight of the last ten years, the recruit as NO idea what that really means. But the rest of us know that NYU is being ranked in the first half when they put up gaudy records which mean nothing when they hit conference play. I don't want to be part of that ploy and I hope more of my Top 25 voters will start thinking the same way in the future.

I agree with everything you said as I've stated the same thing about this program for as long as I can remember. And you're right about the 1-1 week they had. Wash U is not the Wash U we are used to seeing, so a win over them is not nearly what it would have been in past years. I thought it was interesting that KnightSlappy's Regional Rankings has NYU at #7 in the East behind 4 SUNYAC teams. NYU barely has a SOS better than SUNY-Canton, an Independent, who has a tougher time finding D3 teams to play. And KS has the Kangaroos ranked in front of them. NYU wouldn't even make the ranking if they were released today, as only the Top 6 schools from the East get listed.

For anyone that's interested...Here's a link to the latest Regional Rankings that KnightSlappy has compiled. These are updated, usually every Tuesday. They are not official but until the real ones come out they are a fairly good indicator of where teams are in the D3 pecking order by Region. Enjoy!

Tuesday, Jan. 26     Just a single game tonight in the SUNYAC.

Cortland State      Geneseo State      7:30 PM

These 2 teams went at it hot and heavy just 2 weeks ago in Cortland. That one went down to the wire and the Red Dragons thought they had pulled one out, on a Blair Estarfaa 3 pointer with 18 seconds left to go, to put them in front by a 76-75 margin. Hold everything said the Knights John Decker, as he came down and buried a jumper, with 5 ticks on the clock, to give Geneseo the win.

The guys from Cortland will have that one on their mind and sure hope to reverse the outcome of tonight's game. These Red Dragons can move into a tie for 2nd place with those other Red Dragons from Oneonta if they take care of the Knights this evening. Geneseo, currently 4th in the standings, can take over sole possession of 3rd place with a victory tonight. Both teams looking to keep that number in the loss column from getting larger.

The oddsmakers, somewhat surprisingly, have made the Red Dragons a 2 point road favorite. I say surprisingly because these two teams are only ranked a couple of placements apart in the ratings system with Cortland  coming in at #88 and Geneseo holding down the #91 spot. Usually that means the home team would benefit from the point spread.

I watched the Knights play just 2 days ago and they are scary good with great shooters. They are deadly from the line and the arc. Justin Ringen and John Decker can both carry the team if one of them is not on the floor and when they are both out there at the same time the Knights disciplined passing game seems to find the open shooter. They take a lot of 3 point shots...they also make a lot of 3 point shots. Having said that about the Knights..well I could say many of the same things about the Cortland shooters. They will also take a lot of shots from outside the arc and Estarfaa, JP Reagan, and Michael Kelly are hard to stop as well. Last game Cortland took 25 shots from downtown and Geneseo took 15. On Sunday I watched Geneseo take 37 shots from behind the arc...and they made 14 of them. And Plattsburgh has (or had) the #1 three point defense in the country at the time.

Tough one to pick tonight but having seen Geneseo in person, so recently, they left a solid impression on me and how tough it's going to be for my Cardinals to go into Alumni Fieldhouse and walk out of there with a win, on the last day of the regular season. I'm hoping that whatever position my Cardinals are shooting for that last week of the season, they will have already clinched it before February 20th. Tonight I'm picking the Knight to win this one at home by an 84-80 final score
