Would be quite the road trip from Florida!!

Cortland 49, Geneseo 40 on JP Reagan triple midway through the second half. Corts open the period 7x10fg. Knights J. Ringer lands from the arc to make it 49-43. Ringer with 21 points

Say no more!!  :-X

Quite the battle royale in Geneseo ....as we play-by-played on the previous page. Cortland with a second half surge to lead by 11 with 3:23 left in regulation. Clutch play all over the place in the closing moments, and then in overtime. Goodness, J. Ringen had none of his 38 points(12x22fg, 3x9 3s, 11x11ft, 10 reb, 3 assts in 44 minutes) in the extra period. But J. Decker comes alive and notches 19 pts(6x18fg, 7 assts). Free throwing crucial ......Knights 23x27. Cortland winds up respectable 20x31 but was under 50% late in regulation. Geneseo shoots 29x61fg, 11x31 3s and uncharacteristic 16 turnovers. K. Crockett with 10 points

Ringen was simply a one man gang through a big part of the game. Had 18 points at halftime, and 36 of his side's 72 points at onetime.

Cortland got off to a sluggish start (2x9fg) before warming to the task. Finding the right combinations hasn't been easy Coach Span. B. Estarfaa seemed to have a "quiet" 23 points(6x15fg, 5x13 3s, 4 assts) in 36 minutes. First-year J. Cooper with 17 pts(7x11fg, 7 rebs) provides major first half lift off the sidelines. S. Martinez with 12 pts(6x6ft) and 7 rebs. JP Reagan with 10 pts, 5pf in 25'. C. Joseph with 7 rebs. Corts 30x57fg, 9x26 3s

Both are 10 team conferences that play round robin schedule!
70% (Yac)-80 (BE)% of the leagues overall records are at 63% wins or better!
Conferences out of conference records are in the top 30% of the respective divisions!
Numerous teams in each conference have received votes over the past 2 months.

Its just a shame that the Yac cant send  more than 3 teams to the dance. I have no doubt that the Big East will send at least 5!

I think that I'm gonna start calling the SUNYAC "Little East"!  Oops that's already taken! :-[

Nothing like comparing apples and oranges. :)

The D1 tournament basically makes the money that runs all of D3's tournaments. D1's tournament along with the WBB tournament are basically the only two tournaments in the entire NCAA that play by different selection criteria rules. It is what it is.

I knew it would not be long before Dave swooped in to deflate Bengals' SUNYAC Balloon  ;) ;D :P

Got to keep you state schools on the rails. Comparing to private big colleges is also semi-amusing. LOL

Let's take this to the WIAC board. Well, not this year.

Let's take this to the WIAC board. Well, not this year.

Or the NESCAC board most years.

Heck 2years ago the NEWMAC got 4 teams into the dance. WPI, Springfield, MIT, and Babson. Probably shouldn't have but they did. All 4 teams lost in the first round. We beat 1 of them, MIT, by about 23 points, I think.

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

Well I think three absolutely deserved to be in the tournament from the NEWMAC that year - they were very strong - but Springfield surprised I think and won the AQ. You could still argue three only, but SOS numbers that year really did the NEWMAC well. They then went on to have a tough NCAA tournament, but that was a tough first round period. That was the year the committee put three MA teams at Virginia Wesleyan (not very creative or balanced) and Randolph-Macon lost in the first round to DeSales at home.

No deflation.  I didn't expect a rousing round of "way to go"!  I expected less than an agreement from some corners of the blogs-sphere!  :-\  I'm a big fan of the SUNYAC (since 2006)...and a Big fan of the Big East (since 1994).   ;)  I like what I see in both conferences.  I think they mirror each other to some degree! And I believe that both are deserving of Multiple bids to the dance. At least 3 for each??   :)

Big day in Sunyac tonight.  All 10 teams face off to begin a weekend where nearly any could drop as far as 4 places or rise as high as 4 places! Much is at stake! Your favorite teams record WILL change tonight. Some for better...some for worse! At least 1 team will look back at this weekend, come seasons end, and regret that 1 loss that kept them out of the playoffs. At least 1 will realize that a loss this weekend prevented them from hosting a playoff game. Others will look back and say this was the weekend that vaulted them into top 4 positioning.  A lot is on the line this weekend. I guess that's what make the SUNYAC special.

Go BENGALS!

Friday Jan. 29th All 10 teams in action

New Paltz State  at  Oswego State      7:30 PM

The Hawks are coming off a win last time out and are looking to start a streak. They had been knocking on the door several times in their last few games and finally got over the hump against Buffalo State. Now they need to win one on the road to start that streak. Hawks split with the Lakers the past 2 years but have lost 9 of the last 11 games against them.

Oswego continues to struggle and a win tonight will still give them a losing record after completing half of their conference schedule. They also haven't played one of the top tier teams...Geneseo, and that will make it even harder to get into a playoff position. The Lakers are 13 point favorites in tonight's contest. Their bench got awful short last game against Cortland and they only got 6 points from their reserves. I think they win tonight's game but they need to focus on the Hawks and not be thinking about Oneonta's visit  tomorrow afternoon. Lakers take this one by a 75-65 final score.

Geneseo State  at  Brockport State      7:30 PM

These two teams will see a lot of each other in the next week as they meet again next Friday in Geneseo. Tonight a win by the Golden Eagles will get them even with the Knights as they start the 2nd half of the schedule. Brockport has really had the Knight's number over the past 5 years winning 8 of their 10 matchups. They did split the season series last year with each one winning on the other team's court.

Both teams coming off a win in their last outing as the Knights won a 2nd nailbiter over Cortland and the Eagles upset Plattsburgh State on the road to hand the Cardinals their first loss in the conference. The oddsmakers have made Brockport a  slim 2 point favorite because they are the home team. I'm going to go with the Knights in another close game that goes down to the wire. Geneseo 86 Brockport 83.

Oneonta State  at  Cortland State      7:30 PM  Co-Featured Game of the Day

Lots of heat in this one tonight as the Red Dragons take on the Red Dragons. Oneonta looking to catch the Cardinals in the loss column if they can get a little help from the Bengals. Cortland looking to catch their fire breathing brethren and maybe tie them for 2nd place. The oddsmakers have made the Oneonta variety a 4 point favorite and I'm taking them as well. Oneonta 83-80 in this one.

Potsdam State  at  Fredonia State      7:30 PM

Potsdam still trying to get back into the win column. Fredonia experiencing the best month they've had in over 2 years. The point spread favors the home team here by an 8 point margin. This could be the Bears best chance to grab a 2nd win. I think Ian Helps will be to much for the bears tonight and the Blue devils win by a 76-70 final.

Plattsburgh State  at  Buffalo State      7:30 PM  Co-Featured Game of the Day

The Bengals found their mojo but lost it again soon after. They will be looking to avenge an overtime loss to Plattsburgh earlier this month in the Burgh. Something tells me that they will pull off the win here tonight but I'm still not picking them to do so. The oddsmakers have made the Cardinals a slim 4 point favorite but if I was making out the spread I would have the Bengals favored by 3 at home. Any team that loses in overtime on the road is usually favored to win at home.

Buffalo State has been a regular Jekyll and Hyde this season and one only has to look at last weekend to see the truth of that statement. Beating Oneonta, one of the top teams in the conference on the road, and then losing the next day to the last place team, makes me wonder which team will show up tonight. I know which one I'd like to see.

Plattsburgh hasn't had much luck in the Sports Arena, going 2-5 there in the past 7 years. I'm thinking we're due for another win in the Queen City. I really don't expect it but you all knew I wouldn't pick against my Cardinals. Plattsburgh wins another close one, 88-85.

All-Time

Sorry folks - due to technical issues, no video for the Cortland-Oneonta men's game tonight. We will hopefully have video tomorrow for the Cortland-New Paltz game.
