3 BIDS!!!!!!!!!  Oswego vs Delaware valley. I told you UNCLE magic that SUNYAC was at least a 3 bid conference!  Go Yac. Plattsburgh vs Oswego for national Championships!!

Yeah but you say that every year, so one of these years (like this year) you get to be right. ;D

This is where I should take my role of pessimist  ;D. Glad 3 are in! Also, Magicman, if you want to be in the tourney draft league you better get over to the futures page quick haha.

Lancaster Bible received no favors in their placement. Tough draw against Wooster and then if they won that, Catholic (unless Catholic loses)

The NEAC conference winner is always going to get a tough draw. It's rated as one of the 2 or 3 weakest conferences in the country, so they always face a team from a much stronger conference. The Chargers will give Wooster a hell of a game and it wouldn't surprise me to see them win and advance. They could make the Sweet 16.

Cortland against WPI should be a good game. I think Cortland has better shooters than WPI and should win if Blair Estrfaa, Carrell Joseph and company are firing on all cylinders. Cortland's shooters are as good as any team in the country. They have 5 guys on the floor almost all the time that can bury a 3 pointer. In the SUNYAC championship they had 18 threes from 6 different players. Not many teams can get that kind of production from behind the arc. If they win they will most likely have to face, SUNYAC nemisis, Amherst in the 2nd round. I can't see Husson knocking off the Lord Jeffs. Cortland will match up well with Amherst if they do meet up though, so the Red Dragons can prove a lot of people wrong if they can advance to the Sweet 16. I wouldn't bet against them doing so, they are a resilient bunch.

Plattsburgh State hosting is a magicman's delight. For the 3rd time is the last 4 years Plattsburgh has been selected to host. The Fitchburg State Falcons will be no pushover. They own some quality non-conference wins, most notably a win over the WPI team that Cortland has to play. The Falcons beat WPI 57-56 back on December 5th to knock the #13 ranked 7-0 Engineers (at the time) from the unbeaten ranks. So they are no strangers to playing a school from a bigger conference. They also beat Albertus Magnus 91-85. Albertus was the runner up to Johnson & Wales in the GNAC conference. They beat conference opponent Bridgewater State in both meetings 85-77 and 72-61. Brockport played Bridgewater State down in Florida over the Christmas break and beat them 100-95 but it took them 3 overtime periods to do so. I hope we can get by the Falcons and advance to the 2nd round. Plattsburgh will be missing one of their key players for the tournament which will be tough to overcome.

Plattsburgh stands a good chance to face Johnson & Wales in the next round if they get by Fitchburg State. Johnson & Wales may be rated as an underdog against Trinity but I think they can beat the Bantams. J & W has two very good players that can both light up the scoreboard. 6'3" Quarry Greenaway, who was recruited by Plattsburgh State, and 6'5" Tom Garrick average 26 and 22 ppg respectively. They are both guards and lead the team in rebounding as well. If we face Trinity it will be a rematch of an earlier game in the season, won by Plattsburgh 81-73. The Cardinals were without the services of Kyle Richardson in that game.

Oswego got a decent draw. They should win their game against Delaware Valley and then get Marietta in all probability. Don't think Gwynedd Mercy will defeat Marietta. Marietta will be a difficult matchup for the Lakers, as the Pioneers play in the always tough Ohio Athletic Conference. They won the regular season crown but lost in the championship game of the OAC tournament to John Carroll 87-85. Brockport was beaten by John Carroll the day after that triple overtime game against Bridgewater State, that I mentioned up above. The Golden Eagles were gassed and John Carroll did not play the day before like Port did, so they had a definite advantage over the Eagles going into that game. I think Oswego can certainly play with Marietta and no one can take over a game like Brian Sortino can. If he's on, the Lakers can hang with anybody.

Upon further review of the Little East picks, what would have happened if I didn't pick the bonus yesterday at all?   ;D ;D

I was looking to see if you might make that decision because I considered it since "you don't lose if you don't choose" ;D  I would have, at the last possible minute, taken Keene State because I liked the fact that they handled Eastern Conn. back on Feb 17th.

Good luck to the Owls as well. They have a tough matchup with Stockton.

Ya gotta believe!!

Senior TJ Hefele Sophomore James Morales sinks a 3-pointer falling back from the right flank against two charging Lakers to win it. Bucket comes at 0.4 on the Pburgh scoreboard. Hefele Morales takes a rather wild pass from B. Estarfaa who was driving left down the lane and finding considerable traffic. Hefele Morales winner follows  flurry of trey exchanges.  Trailing 67-60 with 4:30 left after 9-0 Oswego run,  Cortland's C. Joseph first of three straight 3-pointers gives his team 68-67 lead at 2:28. B. Sortino FTs for Oswego puts Lakers up. Joseph trey at 1:26 makes it 71-71. Hefele from the right side lands a triple for a 74-71 Cortland advantage at 0:30. Laker K. Covley immediately responds at 0:24 to set up the climax. Sortino able to get off a final desperation bid -- don't know if it would have been allowed ........

The sophomore Joseph named the tourney's mvp. Has 24 points, Hefele 14, Estarfaa 12. Sortino  with 27 OSt markers

Fixed it for you jdex. ;D I had a front row seat and it was nothing but net.  Young Morales likely hits the biggest shot of his career, so far. Great pass by Blair Estarfaa to find the open man with time running out and covered well by Oswego defenders.

Magic,

Just in from the course (golf), yes in Florida in 70 degree temps (sorry bout that). Got a look at Cortland winning hoop vs. Oswego on Pburgh video. And, yes, Mr. Ryan (not a bad play-by-play voice whatsoever) DID call TJ Hefele for the win. Of course, TJ's a lefty and he had just hit a critical 'three.'  That should have set us to wonder since James Morales is a righty, and the shot was a righty. The call and the video available on Cortland website ........ But grats for quickly setting us straight. Especially for the first hand look. We were on the opposite side of the court (or at least the camera was!)

jdex,

I saw the video on the SUNYAC website about 4 PM today. I started to send you a PM that you were right, but got sidetracked with a problem at my store and when I came back to this board, there was your post.   So yes, the announcer, Rob Ryan, did call the wrong player, not once but twice. Called him Hefele on the replay as well.  Funny thing is you can clearly see Hefele #10 hovering around the top of the key on the left side as Blair Estarfaa is making his move to the basket.  Should have known the only way you'd be wrong is by being fed false info. ;)

The two first round games in Plattsburgh will be played, according to the Cardinals athletics website, on Friday evening.  The Trinity / Johnson & Wales game will tip at 5:30 with Plattsburgh and Fitchburg State playing at 7:30.

Lost 1 of our coaching brethren today. Potsdam relieved both men's and women's coaches of their positions today.  Don't see that happen too often in the Yac!  Hoping that Sherry Dobbs lands on his feet somewhere, he was a class act. I remember during Potsdam's last visit to Buff State, he sat Josh Blagrove (4th leading scorer) because of his post game antics the night before at Fredonia! Didn't even let him dress! Here's to hoping the best for him!!

You might want to start using the D3hoops.com website once in awhile ;)

We had the show on our own link... worked pretty darn well. Next time maybe ;)

Oh... and Pat and I picked NYU and left Rochester out of the tournament. Did it on last night's Hoopsville. Would love to see you chime in when we are on the air. :)

I disagree... this is a perfect matchup for LBC.

When looking only at the criteria... LBC should have been served up to the highest seed available. Poor SOS, wouldn't have made it without an AQ, only one win of 27 games worth noting; ignore the WL and you have a team from the MASCAC who no one knows and gets the hardest opponent possible.

Instead, they get a Wooster team who was a late selection into the tournament and clearly is not the same dominating team from earlier this century. This is a great matchup for Wooster to prove the F&M game wasn't a fluke. Sure, they have probably Catholic later... but that is a similar game to Wooster. This is an ideal situation for LBC to get a chance to prove themselves against two teams they are actually ranked ABOVE in the Top 25.

Dave,
I always use the D3hoops website. Why do you think I don't. I used the D3hoops link for the selection show as well, I always have. I went there around 12:05. It brought up the NCAA page and I patiently waited until the requisite time. Nothing happened. I kept clicking on the play button but got a dark screen. I brought it up again off the D3hoops link...again nothing. By then it was over.

Went to the D3 link again for the women's show. Never got that either. Strange.

I did listen to the show last night when you and Pat were making the selections. I almost chimed in when you were talking about Oswego but you got to where I would have pushed you so I didn't have to. :D

I was glad when you left 1 of the UAA teams out of the tournament. I said earlier on Sunday night over on the Pool C board and on this board that the East wouldn't get 4 bids... that NYU or Rochester would be left out if Oswego moved up to #2 in the rankings which they did and should have. I still think that Rochester should have made it and NYU should have stayed home.

You must have missed my reply to pg04 earlier about Lancaster Bible.

magic - I was just giving you a hard time... I suspect the issue might have been your video player? Not sure. Refresh might have cleared it up. No worries, maybe your computer realized it was going to be my mug on the screen again and refused to play the video in fear you would stroke out seeing me. LOL

As for Rochester v NYU... when you start to dive into their numbers, hard to argue Rochester should have stayed ahead of NYU. Just in out-of-conference, neither had great wins. If Rochester had one significant win out of conference, the conversation would have been different.

As for LBC - I was just adding my thoughts. I saw yours :)

Dave,

When you really dive into the numbers between Rochester and NYU here's what you come up with.

In NYU's 11 non-conference games they went 11-0. Those teams they played had a combined won-loss record of 127 wins and 173 losses. 8 of them had losing records, 1 of them was a .500 team and 2 of them had winning records.

Rochester played 10 D3 schools  and went 7-3 against those teams. The won-loss record of those teams was 131-128. 6 had losing records and 4 had winning records. One of their losses was to Oswego by a single point and one of their wins was over Brockport who was regionally ranked at one point. Another win was over Nazareth a good team that was 17-9. Those 3 games alone were better than any non-conference game NYU played. And Rochester didn't play a 3-22 John Jay or a 3-23 Hunter, like the Violets did. Half the teams in the SUNYAC, Liberty League and Empire 8 conference would be 11-0 playing the teams that NYU did. They got rewarded for playing a bunch of bad teams. The NCAA isn't supposed to do that. :P

That's why I think Rochester should have been in instead of NYU.

I got the word about a week ago that Sherry was not coming back. He was a good coach and a great guy and I will miss him. He had trouble recruiting top players for the past 10 years. This year he did look to have a good group of young players. Hopefully the new coach will continue to build on that and the school can get back on the right path. Hope Sherry can catch on with somebody but it won't be easy with Potsdam's recent woes on the record.
