0:42 in Cortland contest ....l 68-66 RDragons ........ no free throws but Amherst with the ball .........draw foul ....misses first, makes second ......one point game at 0:39 .....Cortland TO at 0:20, eight on the shot clock. Corts miss. Amherst misses but fouled on rebound .. Amherst J. McCarthy at the FT line at 0:05 ...hits the first to tie .............TO .... makes second ...Amherst leads  and wins 69-68 when Amherst uses its fouls-to-give (as in four in the bank). Corts unable to get off much .....

Agree on the foul call!!

pg04

Not to disrupt your update feed again, but that last foul with 43 seconds left was unfortunate to give the ball back to Amherst.

Meanwhile Oswego only up by 1 with a minute left...

Oswego wins by 1 in a barnburner!

Cortland edged 69-68 at Amherst. Similar ending to last night's Amherst win over Husson. T. McCarthy sinks FTs at 0:05 after fouled on offensive rebounding bid. Lord Jeffs then foul Cortland twice bringing the ball upcourt. Had not yet used allotment of fouls. Had several to give. Just seven Amherst fouls for the game. Tough one for RDragons. Played a whale of a second half, especially B. Estarfaa, soph C. Joseph and JP Reagan when shots had to be made ......

RDragons grab their first lead at 51-50 on Estarfaa trey at 10:35. He then connects off a drive..  CSt by 57-53 on Joseph trey at 8:45. McCarthy lands from the arc and Amherst gets an inside hoop to retake the lead 58-56 at 7:30. Joseph fires another triple at 7:00. J. Morales hits another at 6:30 and when Reagan works inside for a deuce tis 64-58 at 5:45. Back storms Amherst beginning at 5:37. Foul shots by the Jeffs at 3:14 pull them within 64-62. Joseph AGAIN nails a three at 2:50 and the margin is 67-62. Amherst with a bucket at 1:57. Reagan makes one of two FTs at 1:34 to complete Cortland scoring and 68-64 lead. C. Green putback makes it 68-66 at 1:10. Both teams miss but  Estarfaa on defensive rebound is called for controversial foul and Amherst keeps possession down the stretch. One Amherst FT cuts the margin to one. Cortland works the clock but is unable to get off clear shot. Amherst boards, races upcourt, misses tight shot and McCarthy in a scrap draw the deciding foul.

Joseph 20 pts(7x15fg, 6x12 3s) in 34 minutes; Estarfaa 18 pts(7x15fg, 3x9 3s) 4 rebs, 3 assts; Reagan 10 pts(4x10fg, 1x4 3s) 6 rebs; S. Martinez 6 rebs in 15'. Amherst led by C. Green 20 pts(8x16fg, 3x9 3s) 10 rebs; J. McCarthy 10 pts(3x10fg, 2x7 3s) in 36'

Cortland 26x61fg, 12x35 3s, 4x6ft, 4 turnovers, 32 rebs. Amherst 25x58fg, 10x33 3s, 9x11ft, 5 turnovers, 36 rebs.  Corts drew 10 foul whistles to the Jeffs 7

The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat (by 1 point) in one night in the SUNYAC

Amherst escapes again. The camera work wasn't that good at the end. And I thought there could have been a foul at the end... but I could be making that up in my head since I didn't get a good look

Congrats to Jason Leone and the Oswego Lakers for their victory over Gwynedd Mercy. Take away their 2 losses to Cortland and Oswego would be on a 10 game win streak! They just seem to get better as the season goes on. Talk about a team getting hot at the right time. Congrats to Congrats to Cortland for standing toe to toe with #15 Amherst on the Lord Jeffs home court!

Next up for the Lakers is Wooster (23-7). Our Yac hopes lie with Oswego.

Go Lakers!!

pg04

There are rumblings that Oswego could host for distance reasons (trying not to fly teams all over). But it might be Wooster. CNU kind of got shafted having upsets happen and apparently they won't host even though they are the highest seed of the 4 teams.

I guess we'll see when it's announced. I can never quite figure out their decisions.

Great game by Cortland at Amherst.  Magicman was correct...two  teams with many outside shooter.  Stats were close up and down.  The Red Dragons outshot Amherst by two on 3 point shots.  Both teams did not foul much....except for the ones in the last  few seconds of the game.  Amherst won the RB battle.
The Cortland center was a beast from outside!
Will tip my hat to the Red Dragons next time I visit my daughter's family in Groton N.Y.....about ten minutes away from Cortland St.

Magicman, You must not be a hockey fan. You could have chosen to watch Plattsburgh vs. Geneseo SUNYAC final. I'm partial to hockey myself but Brockport has never been good.

I'm a hockey fan pg04  but prefer to read about a hockey game and watch a basketball game. Warm in the gym...not so much in the field house. I follow the Cardinals hockey fortunes online and in the newspaper and after hoops season will watch a webcast of Plattsburgh men's or women's games as they take place. Usually one or both are in the NCAA tournament.

Our ladies won today over Oswego 5-0 and will play Utica College Pioneers tomorrow, who beat Elmira 5-1, for the ECAC West Championship. Plattsburgh is trying to win their 4th ECAC West Championship in a row. Seems kind of strange that we're not playing Elmira for the title. We usually do. Utica women have been getting stronger the last few years and are now a player for all the marbles. Pioneers are the only team D3 to beat the Plattsburgh ladies this year who are 25-1 going into tomorrow's game. Cardinal women are 106-5-5 over the past 4 years, with back to back National Championship for the last 2 year. Trying for the threepeat this year.

Just found out that the Plattsburgh men got whooped tonight by Geneseo 7-1. :P Bad days in Black Rock for the Plattsburgh men's sports teams recently. :(  Now they will have to hope for an at large to the NCAA tournament.

pg04

I understand the warm factor!! Hopefully they get an at large. I know that Geneseo was on the bubble and Plattsburgh was ahead of them, but I am not sure what that game will do to them. As I said, Brockport is not very good (for as long as the team has existed, I think). I don't believe they have ever won a SUNYAC tournament game (that's when they get into it!)

As for the game you were at, Fitchburg made a few runs but I lost interest when the two SUNYAC games were so close!

Don't blame you I would have went to the YAC games as well.

Coach Curle was in his office, in the same building as Memorial Hall, watching the webcast of the Bowdoin Women play since his daughter is their star point guard. He came up at halftime and gave me the halftime scores. I was sitting with an NCAA referee friend who was writing up evaluations on the ref team doing the J&W-Fitchburg game. He dug out his iPhone and we kept getting updates. Was heartbroken when Cortland lost in the final seconds. Saw Oswego had a decent lead up 10 with under 9 minutes to go. I told my friend Oswego likes a close game. like yesterday it will come down to the final few seconds. Sure enough it did. :D

D3hoops has the Oswego game on the front page.

pg04 - for NCAA Div. III tournament games, if a team is within 500 miles, they have to take a bus (or pay for their own flights, which schools don't do). Here are the official mileages between Oswego-Wooster-Keene St.-Christopher Newport:

Distance to Oswego:
Keene St. - 268
Wooster - 385
CNU - 576

Distance to Wooster:
Oswego - 384
CNU - 541
Keene St. - 619

Distance to Keene St.:
Oswego - 269
CNU - 614
Wooster - 619

Distance to CNU:
Wooster - 545
Oswego - 576
Keene St. - 618

So if Oswego hosts, only one flight is needed.
If Wooster or Keene St. host, two flights are needed.
If CNU hosts, three flights are needed.

Thanks Fran. I can't see them paying for the 3 flights to the actual highest seed.

Oswego it is! Should be a rocking place on Friday.

Fran,

Thanks for making it semiofficial. I certainly think that Oswego will host. I remember a few years ago when the hosting site went to Rochester even though Middlebury was the one who should have received that prize, but didn't because of the travel situation.

Sorry about the Red Dragons close loss tonight at Amherst. Seems like we always have to play there. One of these years we'll get them in a YAC house. Tell the guys it was a great run for them, the past 2 weeks. Wish I could have seen the last 2 games.

Those teams in the Northeast have really turned out to be formidable!   :)

Too bad we don't have an Oswego poster. Come on I know you are out there  ;)
