Thanks All Time,

The Cardinals fans are sure hoping we can get him to Virginia.

The (Catholic) Cardinal fans are voting for Bryson Fonville.

And I thought you were coming on this board to tell me that you also voted for Kyle Richardson.  ;)

Not very many Catholic fans voting for Fonville...he's in next to last place with only 5% of the vote. You might as well back a winner and vote for Kyle. ;)

I'll have to round up San Juan, Saratoga, Matt LeToureau, and Cards Fan. Of course, you realize that Pat Coleman, as his last official duty, will impose his moderator pick(worth 200 votes) for Fonville.

Concordia-Moorhead must have lots of voters out in full force. Richardson now tied for first...

Pat Coleman

Richardson's support petered out overnight and didn't fully bounce back this morning. He ended up in third, still with an impressive 18,178 votes. (The cut line was 21,841.)

I'm impressed with the vote turnout-thought it would be 1% of that #.

The 72,000 total votes was the second-most we've had. Pretty impressed by the fan turnout this year.

UR2004,

Yeah, that was a great game even with the outcome.  All I remember about that game though was trying to walk back to my dorm during the storm in the wind tunnel that we call Brockport...Almost got blown over a couple times...

Can't lose with tonight's matchup, either a team from the SUNYAC, or a team from the Rochester Area...good luck to both.

Hey look, I have a post on the first page of this board! Under another name that I think must have gotten lost in the message board transition back in the day (or from when I got expelled - I know it happened but neither Pat or I can remember why, but I was difficult in my early posting times)

(This is what insomnia gets you, looking to the first page of the message board)

By the way, the game the post refers to is the 2002 sectional final (elite 8) game at Tuttle North vs. Rochester. The power went out during the game because of the storm mentioned, and the UR fans chanted "State School" .

That sounds like Rochester fans. When Plattsburgh State played Rochester in the first round of the NCAA tournament on March 2nd 2007, the game took place on St. John Fisher's court. Rochester scored with just a couple of seconds left in the game to go up by a 60-58 score. Plattsburgh's All American guard, Anthony Williams, launched a perfect form, jump shot, from half court, that was nothing but net as the buzzer sounded. Plattsburgh wins 61-60. There were many more Rochester fans in attendance than there were Plattsburgh State fans. Amidst the joyous shouts of the Plattsburgh faithful came the following chant from the Rochester student section:  That's alright, that's OK, you will work for us someday. :D

Friday's NCAA Game  Wooster at Oswego State

Oswego State makes it onto the Sweet 16 for the first time in the school's history. Thanks to a couple of upsets in the first 2 rounds of the tournament and the NCAA's policy of keeping flights in D3 to a minimum, the Lakers get to host the Sectional over higher regionally ranked teams. Because every other possible host in the bracket would have required more flights than Oswego, the Lakers geographic location becomes a plus. 8-)

The oddsmakers have made the visiting Wooster Scots a 5 point favorite in this game which is the first meeting ever between these two teams. Wooster comes into this game, like Oswego, as the recipient of one of the 19 at large bids awarded by the NCAA committee. They were tied for the top spot in their league with Ohio Wesleyan both having a conference record of 15-3 (now 23-7 overall) but were the 2nd seed in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament. They made it to the championship game but were upset by Denison in that game, which led to their at large entry into the dance. The NCAC conference, like the SUNYAC, got 3 teams into the NCAA tournament and still have Ohio Wesleyan and Wooster alive in the Sweet 16.

The Lakers enter the Sectional round with a 22-8 overall record and I think they match up well with the Scots.       Wooster is led by 6'6" junior forward Dan Fanelly who averages 15 ppg and 5.5 rpg. Fanelly had 45 points in the Scots first round game against Lancaster Bible and followed that up with a 20 point output against Endicott as he led the Scots in scoring for both games. 6'2" sophomore guard Spencer Williams is 2nd on the team in scoring for the season with 14.7 ppg and he had double figures in both games last weekend as well, getting 14 on Friday  and 19 on Saturday. The Scots round out their starting five with 6'6" senior center Josh Kipfer(7.6 ppg. 5.6 rpg) and a pair of freshman guards. 6'0" frosh Mitch Baiser (9.2 ppg, 3.1 apg) and 6'2" frosh Reece Dupler (9,1 ppg). They have juggled their starting five throughout the season with only Williams starting in every game but these five seem to be the flavor of the month. Coming off the bench and providing solid help is 6'3" junior forward Milt Davis (7.0 ppg, 2.4 rpg). Wooster's bench got considerably shorter when 6'6" senior forward Alex LaLonde (8.2 ppg, 4.0 rpg) must have been injured in mid February. He hasn't played since a game against Allegheny on February 17th. That could be a big factor in this game as bench points for the Scots have dropped off considerably since the loss of LaLonde.

The Scots are a fairly young team with only 2 seniors in their rotation and look to have a rosy future with all the returning talent. Oswego's team, on the other hand is composed almost entirely of juniors and seniors. There are no sophomores on the team and only 2 freshman that don't receive much playing time yet. The Lakers have been relying on an 8 man rotation but they also were a man short in their last game as 6'5" junior forward Dustin Pond didn't set foot on the court against Gwynedd Mercy. I hope that was only a 1 game absence because they will need all the bodies they can muster this weekend, especially if they advance and face Christopher Newport, who has a very deep team.

The Lakers with Mykelle Krecko or Mark Candelario bottling up the middle could cause problems for the Scots offense. The Scots big gun, Fanelly, is prone to getting in foul trouble and has fouled out of 10 games. If I were Coach Leone, I'd be going right at him from the opening tip off. Skidmore did that and Fanelly played a total of 7 minutes as the Throughbreds beat the Scots in Wooster 72-63 back in November. Hopefully the Lakers trio of Sortino, Covely, and Rawa will be hot from downtown and win the battle from the 3 point arc. Wooster likes to hoist them up as well, but not quite as much as the Lakers will.

On defense it will be interesting to see who Wooster assigns to guard Brian Sortino. Wooster likes to play a fast paced high scoring game and I think the Lakers will try and make this more of a deliberate defensive minded contest. Despite the fact that the Scots are favored by 5 points, I'm picking the Lakers to pull off the upset here by a 78-74 final score.

GO LAKERS

GO BRIAN SORTINO I've got you on two of my NCAA Fantasy Teams. ;D

Oswego really needs to make its video window larger. It shouldn't vary between a little box with huge Oswego Ad on the side and full screen. They should take a note from CNU's feed.

Edit: I figured out you need to push "dim the lights" which makes no freakin' sense to get a bigger screen.

Oswego has been trailing thoughout most of the game. The video feed is atrocious, the worst one in the tournament. I know it's not me because I've had other posters from all over the country tell me they have had major problems trying to get the feed and then can't keep it once they do get it.

Oswego had finally caught the Scots at 61-61 on a Brian Sortino jumper. And then Mark Candelario scores with 1:09 to put the Lakers in front 63-61.

41 seconds left and the Lakers almost get a turnover but the refs call a foul and the Lakers take a time out.

Fanelly scores for Wooster and is fouled and Wooster goes back in front 64-63.

Sortino comes down and drives to the hoop and is fouled. He makes both free throws and Oswego goes back in front with 16 seconds left to play, 65-64.

Time out on the floor and Wooster will inbound the ball. They come down and work the ball to their man Fanelly...he makes his move to the hoop and throws up an off balance shot and the official calls a foul on Kyle Covely. Fanelly makes both free throws to put Wooster up by 1 and when Oswego hustles up court to try and get a final shot off the refs make no call as Sortino is closely guarded and possibly fouled.

Tough losss for the Lakers. Congrats on playing a great game and going as far as you did.

Both Cortland State and Oswego State's seasons come to an end as they lose in the last 5 seconds of their games on a called foul that puts the opposition on the line to gain the lead and almost no chance to score and tie the game up or win it.

Oh those refs  ::)

I was at Oswego for the first game...sadly, my team lost...but as a neutral observer of the second game, the officiating in the final minute was questionable at best.

Sorry Keene State lost :(. They kept pace most of the game, and the team should be proud of what they've done!

I'm glad that someone who was there was also a little iffy on some of the calls. Can't blame it on home cookin' though  ;D
