Not to be picky, but it really isn't a Top 50. Not when the voters can only vote for 25 teams.

Come on Dave, your whole existence on this board is to be picky  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Anyway, hi to all my SUNYAC basketball friends !!!!

Whats up guys, big supporter of the 'Yac! Looking forward to a great year.

Welcome to the board. Hope to see more of you during the year. Did you go to a YAC school? Who's your favorite team? Let me be the first to give you a Plus K.

Magicman, I am a proud alum of The Buffalo State College! Big Bengal supporter and fan of the hoops program over there, I have a feeling that "bengals rule" and I will get along just fine 😉. I had a chance to catch some games last year and meet some of the buffalo state staff, they were quality gentlemen! They are returning 5 starters this year and have a seasoned group of veterans in the rotation, I expect a special year from them! Will be interesting to see how some other teams adjust to life with new players and coaches, big ups to my man Cameron on the Oneonta job! He is a fine addition to the program and had much success at SUNY Plattsburgh. Thanks for the endorsement Magicman! Much appreciated!

Well it looks like I will now be outnumbered by Buff State supporters. That means I will have to make twice as many posts promoting my Plattsburgh State Cardinals. ;D

You are correct on a couple of things. The Buffalo State staff is a collection of "Quality Gentlemen". Also they do have their entire starting 5 returning this year, as well as a number of other players that were part of the regular rotation last season. They may be the favorites to win it all this year. That will depend on how well they share the ball and how well they play when they have the lead. Sometimes, too many talented players can create problems.

Oneonta, one of 4 teams that didn't make the playoffs last year will certainly be in the mix this year. With Coach Conover taking over that program, their success in the SUNYAC just got measurably better.

Be careful of that Bengalsrule guy. He not only drinks the orange Kool-Aid, he has orange blood as well. Sometimes he also looks at life through orange colored glasses. If you are ever in the Plattsburgh area check with Bengalsrule and he will tell you how to locate me. We'll have lunch or something.

The conference will be one big horserace this year with 8 teams fighting for 6 spots. There are 5 teams that I could legitimately pick to win the conference title.  Good luck to your Bengals this season. I'll certainly be rooting for them to come in 2nd place in the YAC. ;)

The Law firm...as far as "being "careful", I must warn you to be wary of that gentleman named "magicman".. Don't let his smile fool you (on Facebook) nor his "occasional" sense of humor. He is the die hardest of basketball fans. He lives, eats, breathes Plattsburgh basketball. LIVES...EATS and BREATHES. I'm posting this now because its a good chance that he is at their practice as we speak.   He is also the undisputed king of D3 hoops on these boards (IMHO), however don't let that intimidate you because if you do then he will try and have you drinking some C.K.A. (Cardinal Kool Aid)!

Stand by your BENGALs guns (its so good to have another BELIEVER on these boards), no matter what magicmans says! I will admit, he knows Plattsburgh/North country better than anyone I know. I've tried to get him to come west for 5/6 years but to no avail! If you are ever in Plattsburgh, magicman will be easy to find. Look for the guy sitting in the last row, directly behind the Cards bench, probably with a red hat on. However let me also suggest, if you ever get to Plattsburgh, then 1st stop in the "Music Shop", located at 77 Margaret st. Its the picture of a full service music store complete with instruments, records and sheet music for every generation. Its my favorite stop when in Plattsburgh! There's some pretty knowledgeable Cards fans there too!

The SUNYAC has a big opening night to tip off the 2016-17 season as 7 teams are in action. Here's the schedule:

Nov. 15

Fredonia State  at  Lycoming        6:00 PM

The Blue Devils have a ton of returning talent and will be looking to make the YAC playoffs for the first time since the 2008-09 season. They open up against the Lycoming Warriors, an NCAA tournament team that only lost to Final Four participant, Christopher Newport, by a 79-71 score,  in the opening round of last year's tournament. Unfortunately for Fredonia, the Warriors also return a ton of talent that includes their entire starting five and and 8 of their 11 man rotation from last year. The Blue Devils lost to Lycoming in Fredonia last year by a 20 point 69-49 final. Fredonia had the lead at halftime 24-23 but got outscored by a 46-25 margin in the 2nd period. Have the Blue Devils matured enough to get a lead, hold on and win this game, this year? The oddsmakers don't think so and have made Lycoming an 8 point favorite. It will be closer than last year's 20 point margin, but I think the Warriors will prevail once again at home. I see this one in favor of Lycoming by a 73-67 final. Hope I'm wrong about this one and if I'm not, maybe the Blue Devils will have better luck on December 29th when they pay a return visit to Lycoming for a 2nd matchup against the Warriors. Apparently playing them once this year was not enough!

St. Lawrence  at  Potsdam State        7:00 PM

The Bears have a new coach in Jim Bechtel, and they return quite a bit from last year's team. They can only improve off of last year's 1-24 record. Potsdam has a young team and improvement will come but it's not going to happen overnight. The Bears are still going to struggle to find wins this year and I don't expect them to get one tonight when they host St. Lawrence University. The Saints return their top 8 players from last year and are picked to finish in 2nd place in the Liberty League. Sitting on the bench for the Saints as an Assistant Coach will be former Bears Head Coach Sherry Dobbs. Talk about scouting your opponents...Dobbs should have a wheelbarrow full of notes on the Potsdam players to share with the Saints. The point spread favors the Saints by a 12 point margin but I think the Bears can keep it to a single digit outcome. SLU wins this one by a 77-69 final. Hope I'm wrong here as well.

Medaille  at  Geneseo State        7:00 PM

On November 15th 2011 the Medaille Mavericks beat Geneseo by a 76-56 margin. That was the last time they had a victory over the Knights. Since then, Geneseo has won 4 straight games in this series and none of them have been by more than 4 points. The Knights return most of last year's team but I'm told that leading scorer, Justin Ringen, is out with a foot injury. That could have a big bearing on the outcome of this game. Geneseo will be hurt, losing Ringen's 21+ ppg, but he was also the team's leading rebounder. The Knights may be vulnerable on the inside this year even with Ringen, but without him, will need someone to step up and crash the boards. John Decker will need to be even more offensive minded than normal until Ringen returns to give the Knights that 1-2 punch they had last season. The Mavericks lost 4 of their top 7 players from a year ago so a bit of rebuilding is necessary there. The oddsmakers have made the Knights an 11 point favorite but I'll be surprised if there is a double digit margin in this game. I'm taking the Knights to win by a 73-69 final score but a Maverick victory here wouldn't surprise me.

Nazareth  at  Oswego State        7:00 PM

The Lakers will be looking to repeat their success of a year ago when they made the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. To do so they will have to utilize a roster full of faces that weren't around during last year's memorable run. Of the 16 players on Oswego's roster 10 of them didn't play on last year's team. Coach Leone has imported 2 upperclassmen from several other institutions, a junior college transfer, 5 freshman, and 2 former Lakers that didn't play on last year's team. Their main man, Brian Sortino returns to run the show and they also have 6'10" big man, Mykelle Krecko back to help control the boards and block shots. Forward Keith Tyson another starter from last year will be counted on as well. Nazareth lost a lot of talent from last year's team and may find themselves in rebuilding mode. The Lakers are favored to win by a slim 5 point margin but I think they down the Golden Flyers by a 74-65 final.

Buffalo State  at  Pitt-Bradford        7:00 PM

The Bengals return all 5 starters and nearly everybody from last year's 15-11 team. They are primed to make a run for the SUNYAC crown. They need to improve their play as a team and play wisely with the lead. Tonight they face a Pitt-Bradford team that struggles to win games out of their conference going 1-7 last year in non-conference contests. Tonight should be more of the same as the Bengals should have their way with these Cats of a different color. The point spread favors Buff State by 9 but I think the final will be Bengals 90 Panthers 72.

Plattsburgh State     at  Clarkson        7:30 PM

The Cardinals and Knights renew their rivalry after a few years of not playing each other. This will mark the first game of 4 matchups that Plattsburgh will have against Liberty League opponents this season. Plattsburgh lost 3 starters from last year's 21-6 NCAA  tournament team including SUNYAC Player of the Year and All American Kyle Richardson, 3 point specialist Eddie Correa and human highlight reel, Xavier "XMan" Thomas. But a wealth of talent remains and Coach Tom Curle will have to figure out a way to keep a lot of players happy with playing time as competition for the rotation is stiff. Jon Patron is back and will lead the charge for the Cardinals, but will get lots of help from newcomer Eric Mack, a transfer from Nassau Community College who looks to take over where the XMan left off with his innate leaping abilities. The Knights also return much of last year's roster but they lost their best player and will be hard pressed to improve upon a 9-16 record from last season. Still, with so many returning lettermen, the possibility to move up is there.  The point spread favors the Cardinals by a 9 point margin but I think the final score will be a bit more lopsided. I think Plattsburgh wins this one by an 88-70 final.

New Paltz State  at  Vassar        8:00 PM

The Hawks are coming off a dismal 5-19 season. They lost their top scorer, their top rebounder and another starter from their rotation. They do have a lot of size in the 6 new freshman recruits, with a 6'9" center, two 6'7'" forwards, a 6'5" forward and a 6'4" G/F. How that translates into wins remains to be seen. Vassar lost 2 starters from last year's squad that dropped a close 70-68 game to the Hawks. This year with the game at the Brewers gym the oddsmakers have favored Vassar by a 6 point margin. I'm going out on a limb here and picking the hawks to pull off a mini upset. I like them to win this one by a 69-66 final score.

All-Time

Love to see the MagicMan back at work.  :)
Absolutely love his posts.

Here are my picks for the night
Lycoming over Fredonia
St Lawrence over Potsdam
Medaille over Geneseo without Ringen, thanks for the injury report Magicman
Buffalo State all over Pitt Bradford
Plattsburgh over Clarkson
Oswego over Nazareth
Vassar over New Paltz

Can't wait for the games to begin.
7 teams for 6 playoff spots.
You better come to play every night in the SUNYAC.
Enjoy the games

Bengalsrule

No predictions, however as I sit here at Pitt Bradford gym to cheer on my BENGALS I am reminded that their last trip here was in November of 2010!  That was the season in which Buff State won the SUNYACs and went on to the sweet 16!

Go BENGALS!!!
