Saw several requests for info or opinion on Hero Sports and their poll... not sure, though, what anyone is looking for. I have chatted with those at Hero... told them that while more eyes on Division III is nice, that their efforts tend to fall flat with people who have no idea what they are talking about - and their stories tend to show that. Furthermore, their poll is not a voting poll... it is basically like Massey - though, I have no idea how it is tabulated. I honestly don't pay that much attention.

Oneonta is the 3rd YAC team to fall today as they lose to Williams by a 74-62 final score.

Bad day in Black Rock for the YAC.

Happy New Year to you Allstar. I was just checking out your picks for Tuesday's games. Eastern Ct. and Rhode Island caught everybody by surprise. Crazy results all over the place this year.

Speaking of Eastern Conn..... Call me pleasantly surprised,( especially after watched my BENGALS beat them 16 days ago in Miami fla,) to see that they, Eastern Conn, just beat the 3rd ranked team in the nation, Amherst, by 12!

Certainly did...I'm not doing all that good on picks this year, anyway, let alone tonight.  Eastern Connecticut has played a tough schedule, so they are better than their record indicates probably.  I picked Amherst, though with it being at Eastern, I can't say I'm stunned they won...but I'm still somewhat surprised.  Amherst has now lost two of three, as they lost to Springfield before the holidays, which was really unexpected.  Rhode Island College's win over Wesleyan was stunning when you take into account recent results and the fact that it was in Connecticut.  The Anchormen were coming off being trampled by MIT (74-46) and Eastern Connecticut (90-63) at home, while Wesleyan beat highly-ranked Marietta 81-65 in Florida before Christmas.  But in the Wesleyan/RIC matchup, the Cardinals couldn't throw the ball in the ocean.  Go figure!  Such is sports, I guess.  Keene State is hard to figure too...they had a completely pathetic performance against UNE last week.  They are still missing a contributor and had similar issues last year with people in and out of the lineup, but there isn't an excuse for what I saw last Friday against a 2-7 team.  You indicated your Cardinals are shorthanded, so I hope they can get to full strength soon!

Plattsburgh is coming off a 23 day layoff and bound to be rusty. Trinity played 2 games over the past weekend and got rid of any rust that had accumulated. I don't like the sound of that. Playing the Bantams in their gym will be challenging enough. To do so after such a period of inactivity could spell trouble for the Cardinals. To make matters worse my guys will be shorthanded tonight.

Hopefully your Cards will be "shorthanded" ( although missing J. Patron is like missing a whole arm) for 76 more hours!!

I find the announcement from the New York Governor interesting... tuition-free for schools (haven't read the details to know which ones specifically) could be an interesting recruiting change for many Division III schools.

I don't want to start a back and forth on the ramifications or whether it is good or bad... just thought if it goes through how much that could change the East Region and in particular this conference.

As a former New Yorker who still has close ties to SUNY, don't bet the ranch on it.

In other words ........never happen!!!!

Tuition assistance for low to medium income students has been available for years

Things that make you go hmmmmm....

Latest Massey rankings ( Could also be called "what have you done for me lately")

15  Rochester (-2 movement since last ranking)
38  St Lawrence (+35)
62  Geneseo (+22)
73  Buffalo St (+1)
76  Cortland
87  Brockport ( -39)

88  Hartwick (-5)
95  Skidmore (-13)
96  Oswego (-2)
105 Oneonta (+16)

114 St John Fisher (-28)
126 Hobart (-54)
138 Nazareth (-7)
151 RIT (-37)

SUNYAC teams highlighted and underlined

Note : SUNYAC has dropped down to 10th best conference  >:( >:( >:(

Boy, if you lose then Massey is brutal!  Makes Brockport vs St Lawrence even more important (IMHO). If our 1st place team can beat their first place team then....(I'll let the "experts" fill in the rest). Interesting enough. St Lawrence beat Clarkson last night in Double OT. Both Plattsburgh and Oswego have wins over Clarkson!

Massachusetts has been doing free tuition at state schools for students in the top 10 or 15% (I forget which) of public school classes for a while.  I think it's upped the caliber of student they're able to attract, but I'm not sure it's had a huge impact on athletics.  SUNY and CUNY schools are already about the cheapest in-state options in the country, so I'm not sure where the pool of students would come from to change recruiting all that much - unless some kids are currently choosing community college over a state school, but I doubt that's very many.

The trick to everything is that sometimes discounts, scholarships, and grants can get private tuition down to the same as public which can't change their tuition rates through discounts and the like. No, I am aware it doesn't happen all of the time, but it does happen. Otherwise, state schools would be an obvious choice for most.
