Plattsburgh State 90 New Paltz State 56

I was pretty sure that Plattsburgh was going to put a big number on the board tonight and thought that the Hawks might put a fair amount up as well and cover the 22 point spread. My prediction of a 94-74 Plattsburgh win was pretty close on the Plattsburgh end but New Paltz didn't shoot very well and struggled to put points on the board.

The Cardinals were celebrating Senior Night and the only two seniors on the team, Owen Mitchell and Majestic Grigg, are players that haven't seen a lot of action. They both got to start tonight and both of them put some stats on the board, to the delight of the fans at Memorial Hall. Grigg's trip to the free throw line gave Plattsburgh  its first lead of the night and shortly after that a three pointer from Mitchell gave the Cardinals another lead that they would never relinquish. Plattsburgh doubled up the Hawks at 16-8 and then again at 30-15 with 8:20 left in the half. Mitchell's 3rd 3 pointer of the period followed by a trip to the line where he made 1 of 2 gave the Cards a 20 point lead at 37-17 with 4:40 to go. Another pair from the line by Jon Patron gave Plattsburgh their largest lead of the period of 22 points at 39-17. The Hawks got a pair of triples from Nick Paquette and another one from Malik Seelal to cut the lead to 14 points at 43-29 as the half ended.

Plattsburgh opened the 2nd half with a 15-3 run that broke the game wide open. The score was 58-32 and there was still 15 minutes to go. The Cards' Tim Smith drained a 3 pointer then stole the ball and fed a wide open Brandon Johnson for a layup that made the score 69-39. Coach Curle then got his entire lineup into the act from that point forward and 12 guys made it into the scoring column as they cruised to the final score of 90-56.

The Cardinals
Jon Patron once again had a double-double with a game high 17 points and a game high 10 rebounds. He added 2 assists and 2 steals.

Brandon Johnson had 13 points, 3 steals, 2 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 beautiful dunk from the 5'11" point guard.

Eli Bryant had 12 points and 5 assists.

Owen Mitchell made his senior night a memorable one as he had a career high 10 points with a trio of 3 pointers. He added 2 rebounds and a block in 17 minutes of court time.

Senior Majestic Grigg only had a single point but he grabbed 6 rebounds with a steal in 14 minutes of court time.

Isaiah Johnson showed his versaltility as the big man scored 9 points and had 3 rebounds in 10 minutes on the court. He drained one from long distance, made a spinning drive to the basket for a pretty layup, hit a pull up jumper and sank a pair from the free throw line.

Tim Smith had 6 points going 2x2 from downtown. He had 2 assists, a steal and a rebound in 12 minutes off the bench.

Zack Coleman had 6 points 3 assists and 3 steals.

The Hawks
Malik Seelal had 14 points and 4 rebounds.

Nick Arthur had 11 points, 4 rebounds a block and a steal.

Nick Paquette had 9 points and a steal.

James Saunders had 8 points, 3 rebounds 1 assist and a steal.

Corey Garcia only had 3 points but had a game high 8 assists, a team high 7 rebounds and 3 steals.

The Cardinals got 7 of their 11 three pointers from 4 players who see the least amount of court time. Plattsburgh outshot the Hawks 47% to 37 %, had 43 rebounds to 28 for New Paltz and only had 11 turnovers while forcing the Hawks into 21 miscues.

Plattsburgh has now won 4 in a row after suffering through the longest losing streak in recent memory and has climbed back above .500 with a 10-9 overall record. They are now 6-7 in the conference and remain a game behind Buffalo State and Geneseo for the 6th and final playoff spot. The Cardinals are off until next weekend when they travel to central NY to tackle Cortland State on Friday night at 5:30 and Oswego State on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM. Those will be the make or break games for Plattsburgh's playoff hopes.

New Paltz slips to 1-17 overall and 0-12 in the YAC. They travel to western NY next weekend to take on  Fredonia State and Buffalo State.

Magicman...you still have the "magic", my friend.  Best of luck on your team reaching the playoffs.  It has been a crazy year elsewhere.  See that Middlebury closes out their regular season with your team.  Should be an interesting game.  Amherst closes its regular season with away games at Middlebury and Hamilton...two critical away games.  All mentioned games will impact all the mentioned schools' post season chances, imo.

Fwiw. Buffalo State vs Fredonia tip off is at 4pm...not 5:30!

I guess you didn't see which time I had posted as the starting time for the Buffalo State game in my post up above. I even sent D3hoops a note on Thursday to tell them about the correct tipoff time but they were probably busy doing other things and didn't read the note.

Edit:  It's 5:11 PM and I just went to the D3hoops scoreboard. They are showing a score of Buffalo State 60 Fredonia 42 with 14:39 left to play in the game. Apparently they did get my message and made the change.

Not sure who you sent the alert to, but that isn't a big deal. The game times on our site are either supplied by the school's via their sites (if they are a fellow Presto client), updated themselves (if they are not Presto and help us out), or updated by us (if the school doesn't feel like assisting us). If it falls to the last category, there is a chance it gets past us as we can't spend every day double-checking game times across the board... unless we are alerted. (I got a voicemail the other day about an incorrect time, but the message stopped halfway through giving me no info on what game.)

But the bigger thing is even if the time is wrong, once live stats starts (if they are a fellow Presto site) or someone starts updating the score, it overrides the time info.

I used the "drop us a note" option under the "contact" drop down menu and addressed it to Gordon since he replied to my last message when I used that option.

I've been experimenting with some new things recently on these boards.  I posted a similar chart on the Little East board, but I thought it might be worthwhile on this board as well.  The conference results so far (you can right click and select view image to make it larger or just click on it and use the scroll bar, as pointed out by magicman):

Good job AllStar. Now you'll have to come back and update them every Sunday night. ;D

I didn't have to right right click to make the image larger. Just click on the image and it gets bigger with a slide bar and click again and it returns to the small size. It even does that in the quote I posted.

Thank you!  I thought it would be worthwhile...and I certainly will update it and post it again after another few games.  While making this, I was surprised at the imbalance of home and road games that teams have left.  I certainly understand that in a league like this, given the distances traveled, that it is likely a must...but, for example, Oneonta and New Paltz have all home games left, while your Cardinals have all road games.  I certainly understand the logistics, but that can be difficult.  I'll keep my experiments going...who knows what I'll come up with next.  ;D  I think the chart can be useful for determining tiebreakers...and I enhanced it with color.  Hopefully the abbreviations are understandable.  By the way, the teams are ordered by the standings.  I probably should have done alphabetical, but I went with the standings instead (though it will probably stay in the same order for any updated ones).

Good stuff All star. I have done 1 of these in Black and white over the past couple of years but this really stands out!  And I agree that the disparity in scheduling is hard to understand. Wait till you see next years conference schedule (which is already out)!

Edited to add....When you blow this up its like BOOM!!!  Damn good job!

Brian Sortino was selected as the SUNYAC Player of the Week. Here's the write up from the YAC website.

Brian Sortino, MBB  Oswego

Sortino turned in a phenomenal weekend, which helped lead to a couple of major conference wins for the Lakers. In Friday's 78-75 win over at-the-time SUNYAC leader Brockport, the senior scored 24 points on nearly 50 percent shooting from the field. He also sank all 10 of his free throw attempts, including those late in the contest with the game's result on the line. During Saturday's 81-70 win over Geneseo, the Fairport, N.Y. native notched a season-high 33 points, while also recording his second-career double-double with a season-high 10 rebounds. He was 11-for-18 (61.1%) and 8-for-9 from the charity stripe in the contest. Oswego's two wins now gives it solo possession of first place in the conference standings.

Congratulations on a big weekend.

I do like my new toys, magicman.   ;)  Trust me, I'll slow down now.

You must have seen my new one on the Little East board...so I made one for the SUNYAC too.  These recap the regular season non-conference games, given that there are only two left this year.

Well AllStar, you've outdid yourself  with this one. Not only the scores, but the conferences the teams were from and the region that they are in. Everything all at a glance.  Pretty too.  ;D

I'd give you a plus K for this one but I already gave you one about 12 hours ago, so you'll have to wait a little longer for another one. :D

I'll try to slow down now, but I'll also keep thinking of things that allow me to use my new toy.   ;D  I like it!  I never knew you could post fancy graphics!  I hope my Keene team can learn from last night and finish strong.  They turned the ball over way too many times in the first half and fell behind by too many points, especially on the road.  Their second half comeback attempts fell short.  The NCAA Tournament should be the goal...whether they get there or not, who knows.  They'll have to play well.

Outstanding..again!!  Heck its the first time that I have taken a look at Eastern Conns record this year (2017). I see your boys at Keene State are their only blemish since 12/18!  i imagine that the 2/15 game will be for the LEC regular season title??  Good luck and keep it up with these little surprises!!

Here's another surprise for you (I'm at it again  ;))...I figured this would be useful going down the stretch.  The standings as of now:
