Thanks Bengals, nice to see the Bears on a winning streak.

Nosa's performance is all the more impressive when you consider he posted a pair of double doubles while only playing 24 and 23 minutes.

I looked at Massey, most of the data hasn't been updated, so the ratings are primarily based on last season.

That being said, the only two SUNYAC teams with unblemished records after week 1 are the Cortland Red Dragons, and the Potsdam Bears.  Back out their non-conference wins, and the rest of the yac is a miserable 5-12.

James Morales from Cortland may be in the mix for POW as he had a 28 point outing in the Ithaca game, and averaged over 20 for the week.  As I recall the league office has close ties to Cortland.

Very well done magicman,
If only someone would do the same prognostication for the E8!

Thanks, fisheralum91. There was a time when I did considerable posting over on the E8 board and the Liberty League board as well but then there were considerably more posters on those boards to enjoy a give and take with. They have been rather quiet for the past few years. maybe they will come back a bit this year as Fisher is supposed to do well.  You may see me over there from time to time. Certainly glad to see you over here!!  8-)
Of course im over here....Did you see the football team this year? ;D

Nov. 20  Only one game that counts on tap for today.

Oneonta State game at University at Albany is an exhibition and won't count in their record.

Oneonta State   @    Albany (N.Y.)        7:00 PM   Exhibition only
The Red Dragons will have way more than they can handle in this contest but it will be fun to play on the big stage against a D1 school. I went to this game last year and watched Albany win by a 97-56 score but Oneonta hung with them for most of the first half before a late run by the Great Danes gave them some breathing room at halftime. The Red Dragons don't have the firepower they had last year so this game may not be as close. The oddsmakers have made Oneonta a 31 point underdog and they will be under pressure to stay within that margin. I hope that Oneonta can keep them under 100 and not get beat by as many as Oneonta scores.  Final score 95-51.

Plattsburgh State     @   Skidmore        7:00 PM
This is the 4th straight year that these two teams have faced off. Plattsburgh has won two very close games and Skidmore won in a romp 2 years ago. Tonight the Thoroughbreds go for the equalizer. They are led by their Preseason All American Edvinus Rupkus who comes into the game averaging a  double-double of 22 ppg and 11 rpg along with 6 assists per game. He led the team in scoring a year ago with a 20.7 average and was also the top rebounder with an average of 7.4 per game. Gone is backcourt mate Aldin Mendunjanin who was an All American as well but it looks like Division II transfer Dakpe Yiljep will play an integral part of the offense as he has opened up with a 23.0 ppg average after the first week of the season. Back also are 2 returning rotation players, starter Chase Ta and Jack Burns that are both averaging over 10 points a game.

The Cardinals will counter with high flying Eric Mack, (13.9 ppg, 5.7 rpg) a 6'3" forward who could lead the conference in blocked shots and sharpshooter Eli Bryant, who averaged nearly 15 ppg last season. The Cardinals also return 9 other players from last years' team that will all see significant minutes in Coach Tom Curle's offense. Sophomore Nick DeAngelis led the team in scoring against Keense State on Saturday with 16 points.

The oddsmakers have made Skidmore a 7 point favorite in this one but I'm taking the cardinals to rebound from their opening day loss to Keene State  and put one in the win column. Plattsburgh wins a close one by a 74-71 final score.

I did and I feel bad for you. But the program is too good to be down for very long. Next year will be better I'm sure.

Your hoops team had some positives over the weekend. The losses weren't what you wanted but both teams were quality teams. Hobart is picked to win the Liberty league and Hope is expected to do well in the MIAA conference. I'll be surprised if Fisher doesn't win the E8 this year.

fisheralum91

I certainly hope that they win the E8.
Shore up some rebounding and be able to keep up with a quicker pace of play and we may have a nice season in store!

1st week of SUNYAC hoops are in the books. YAC has a less than stellar 9-12 record vs non SUNYAC teams.  Not sure how many of those games count (I.E.  I doubt either game for my BENGALS counted because neither opponent was NCAA D-3).

Still ranked 15th Best conference according to Massey! 18 games this week so hopefully the Yac can make it 27-12 by Sunday night!

Kudos to Nosa Onabor ( Potsdam) and Mike Henry (Buffalo State) on being the only 2 Yac players to average a double double for at least 2 games. Im betting that MIKE or Nosa will surely be Yac player of the week when those awards are announced tomorrow. I'm sure thebear is pulling for Onabor!  You know who I'm pulling for  ;)

Go BENGALS!

Congrats to thebear and Potsdam for Nosa Onabor on getting the 1st SUNYAC POW.  http://www.sunyacsports.com/sports/mbkb/index

Depends on what you determine as "counting."

As far as the 25-game schedule allowed... games count unless they are to upper division teams (primarily D1) and then a team could make them exhibitions, but there is a catch. Every DIII team is allowed two preseason exhibitions (scrimmages, joint practices). They are allowed to take one or both of those and use them in the regular season if they want on top of the 25 games they are allowed. If a team wants to play more than two exhibitions, they cannot have more than two prior to Nov. 15 AND they have to count towards their 25-game allotment for the regular season (since the extra game would be in the regular season anyway by rule).

No matter who the opponent is teams are allowed 25-games in-season. Use them as they wish against who they wish. There are going to be rules about what the NCAA says you can count as part of your record and anything outside of DIII is basically useless when it comes to regional rankings, at-large selections, and bracketing (unless, by chance, several teams ALL played a similiar out-of-DIII team - they could use that as part of the secondary criteria if needed).

I hope that makes sense. If you have specific examples, I am happy to help explain them.

By "counting" I meant that because Point Park is NAIA d3 ( and I believe Villa Maria is also), I'm wondering if a win or a loss is factored into Buff State Massey rating ( or any d3 rating).

Trouble in Cardinal Land  :(
I think the Magicman gave his Magic Wand to the Postdam Bears.
Plattsburgh was never in the game against Skidmore.
He needs to look deep into his Crystal ball and see what's going on there.
I could be a very long and cold winter up in Cardinal Land.

The trouble is very fixable come December 30th. ;D   A different perspective will be visible at that time. Troops just need to hold the fort until then (but there are some gaps in the outer walls of the fort right now for sure.) ::)

And I did send a magic potion over to Potsdam. Knew they would make good use of it....but they will need more juice down the road, I fear.

Thinking I better send something magical to Coach Leone as well.  ??? :o

Nov. 21   Five YAC teams in action today and I'm late getting my picks in so they will be quick ones.

Morrisville State  at  Geneseo State

Not sure what time this game tipped off but it's going on right now I believe. The oddsmakers have made the Knights a 6 point favorite but I think they'll win by a few more than that. Geneseo 84 Morrisville  67

Oswego State        Clarkson        5:30 PM
Another game already underway and the point spread favors the Golden Knights by a slim 2 point margin. No way will Oswego lose a 3rd game in a row. I'm taking the Lakers to win this one by a double digit margin,   82-69

Potsdam State at  Mount St. Mary        6:00
This one hasn't tipped off yet. The Bears trying to go 3-0 this season. That would equal their total of last year and also equal their total from 2014-15 and 2015-16 combined. The oddsmakers have listed the Knights as a 3 point favorite but I'm taking the Bears to pull off the mild upset here. Potsdam averaging 84.5 points a game. The Knights gave up 84 points in their only game. Potsdam 84 Mount St. Mary 72.

Buffalo State at Nazareth        7:00 PM
Bengals, looking for their first win, are 0-2. Nazareth opens up the season 2-0. Hard to gauge this one as the Bengals played 2 non-D3 opponents and the Golden Flyers have played two schools from smaller conferences. Bengals may get a break as Nazareth's star player Tyler Stenglein missed the entire game last Wednesday against Keuka. Oddsmakers have made Nazareth a 2 point favorite in this one. I'm hoping the Bengals win but they are giving up too many points per game. I think Buff State has a chance if Stenglein sits this one out, but otherwise I see Naz winning at home 86-78.

Vassar  at  New Paltz State   7:00 PM
Once again the SUNYAC team is the underdog as the Brewers are listed as a 4 point favorite. I' ll take a chance that the Hawks are better than they were last year when they hung with the Brewers before falling 71-65.   Final score tonight New Paltz 71 Vassar 67.

The Geneseo game is over and the Knights defeat Morrisville State 89-63. The Knight's Quinn Carey was the leading scorer in the game with 24 points off the bench. He hit 7 of 11 shots from downtown. Zack Panebianco was next in line with 16 points, with a team high 4 assists and 4 steals. Tommy Eastman and Kevin Crockett both tossed in 12 points. Eastman was also the leading rebounder in the game with 10 boards to give him a double-double.

Kevin Dennis led the Mustangs with 16 points.Tyrin Miller had 15 points  and Kyle Peck added 10.

The Knights won the first half 40-30 and coasted in the 2nd half as they widened their lead to 29 points. 11 players broke into the scoring column.

The Knights improved to 2-1 and will be back in action when they visit the Alfred University Saxons on November 28th at 7:00 PM.

Oswego State defeats Clarkson 82-66. I was close on this one as I had it 82-69. Clarkson must have missed a 3 at the buzzer to prevent me from having a perfect score. :D

Jamir Ferebee led the Lakers with 24 points and 7 rebounds which were both game high marks. Ian Schupp had 22 points and 4 rebounds. Liam Sanborn added 12 points. Liam Ellis had 16 points, Roburt Welch had 14 points and Matt Higgins had 10 point for Clarkson.

The Lakers trailed by a slim margin throughout the first 9 minutes of the contest but eventually went ahead 19-18 on a 3ball by Louis Avellino with 10:30 left n the period. They gradually opened up a double digit lead at 35-24 and went into the break up 41-30. The Lakers remained in control for the rest of the way and the lead grew to as much as 21 points midway through the period.

The Lakers are now 1-2 and will return to action at Nazareth on November 28th.

Quality win tonight at Naz. I'm sooo glad I made that trip. Mike Henry continues to impress with his 3rd double double in a row with 24 pts and 13 rebounds .  Quintín Campbell surprises with 22/13 himself and freshman Shelton Adams comes back home to Rochester with 13pts. I'd love 3-0 but 2-1 beats the reverse!   Looking forward to some turkey

Go BENGALS!!
