Oneonta 91  Keystone 73

I was pretty sure these Red Dragons would win this game by double figures and they didn't let me down. Oneonta opened with the first 2 baskets and only trailed once in the game when Keystone hit a 3 pointer to go in front 7-5. The Red Dragons then scored the next 5 points and were never headed the rest of the way. Slowly they increased their margin until they reached a double digit lead at 30-20 with 8 minutes left in the first period. Keystone cut that lead in half and trailed 34-29 with 5 minutes to play, but that was as close as the Giants would get for the rest of the night. Oneonta ended the half on a 16-5 run to go up 50-36. The 2nd half was a replay of the opening stanza as they maintained a double digit lead that grew to 28 points, 84-56, with 9 minutes to play.

Oneonta outshot the visitors in all 3 categories and pounded them on the boards 58-37. The Giants committed 16 turnovers to 21 for the Red Dragons.

The Red Dragons had 4 players in double figures, led by Sean Nolan, who captured scoring honors with 20 points (8x10 fg, 0x1 3's, 4x7 ft). He added 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

Kevin Mackin was close behind with 19 points (8x18 fg, 3x8 3's, 0x0 ft) and 4 rebounds.

Ian Schultz had 14 points (4x6 fg, 1x2 3's, 5x6 ft), 7 boards, 2 assists and a block.

Jacob Rodriguez had a double-double off the bench, as he scored 11 points and had 11 rebounds in 22 minutes of court time.

Oneonta will be off until Friday, November 16th when they travel to Susquehanna University for the River Hawks'  Trailways Tipoff Tournament. The Red Dragons will face Grove City College at 6 PM. On Saturday they will play either Susquehanna or Kings College at 1 or 3 PM.

I'm hopeful that the Red Dragons will be bringing home a couple of wins from that road trip.

Six games on tap for today with 4 teams going to the post for the first time.

Nov. 13

Cortland State  @  Wagner        7:00 PM

The Red Dragons travel south to Staten Island and take on the Division I Wagner College Seahawks. This is not an exhibition game and will count in Cortland's won-lost record. The point spread on this game has the Seahawks favored by 30 points and if Cortland can keep it around that margin I would consider it a victory. Wagner is 0-2 on the season and just lost in overtime to UMass-Lowell so they will be hungry for a win and won't take pity on their lesser division foe. Especially after Seton Hall spanked the Seahawks by 40 points 89-49 on Saturday.

Wagner wins this one by a 97-53 final. But I hope I'm wrong.

Geneseo State @  Houghton        7:00 PM

The Knights will be testing some new lineups tonight with the loss of 3 starters from last year's team and another senior that started about half the games. I imagine they will be calling  Zack Panebianco's number as often as they can. He can score in bunches (I watched him put up 34 and 27 in 2 games against Plattsburgh last year) but where else will the offense come from?

Houghton also lost 4 of their top 6 players, so both teams will be trying to figure it out as the season progresses. Geneseo won last year, 85-78 and the oddsmakers have the Knights listed as an 11 point favorite in this game.

I think Geneseo wins by a 77-69 final score

New Paltz State  @  Western Connecticut        7:00 PM

The Hawks showed considerable improvement last year as their win total increased from 1 to 7. Hopefully that trend will continue on this year and they can hit double figures in the win column. They did lose several key performers and will need to reload the offense. They open up against Western Connecticut who beat them last year by an 83-75 score. The point spread has the Colonials favored by 7 points and I hope the Hawks can keep it that close. I see New Paltz losing this one by an 88-73 final score but I hope the Hawks prove me wrong.

St. Lawrence  @  Potsdam State        7:00 PM

The Bears are another SUNYAC team on the rise as their 11 wins last year equaled the total wins they have had for the preceding 4 years (3, 1, 2 and 5) They were 1 game out of the 6th and final playoff spot and will be in the hunt once again this year as they return just about all their talent.

St. Lawrence is also rebuilding after a disastrous 5-20 season. Getting their big man, Riley Naclerio, back from injury is a good start. They also return a bunch of young players from last year and 6 freshman so it may take a while to get the right mix on the floor. They did handle Potsdam last year in Naclerio's last game before his injury, beating the Bears 89-70. So basically the same two teams will tee it up again, this time in Potsdam.

The point spread favors the Bears by an 80-76 final score. I'll go with my alma mater in this one and take Potsdam to win a close one 77-75.

Morrisville State  @  Brockport State        7:30 PM

Brockport has been waiting four and a half years for this game. Finally a chance to avenge a loss to the Mustangs from March 7th, 2014, that took place in the first round of the NCAA tournament that year. In fairness to Brockport, their All American, John Ivy, was injured and didn't play that day. With him they win by 20, without him they lost in triple overtime 83-80.

Don't know much about Moville, other than they beat Canton the other night and they lost 3 starters from last year's team.

The oddsmakers have made Brockport a 10 point favorite in this one but Morrisville might keep it closer. I'm taking Brockport to win a fast paced contest 93-86.

Plattsburgh State  @ Clarkson        7:00 PM

The Cardinals are coming off one of the most successful seasons in their history and are hoping they can repeat the success they had last year. First up is Clarkson and the Knights should prove to be a good opening game. They have most of their team back from last season and the game is in Clarkson's Alumni Gym. They gave the Cardinals a good battle last year losing 77-70 so pulling off an upset here isn't out of the question.

The point spread on this one is 7 points so the oddsmakers must have checked last years's score to come up with that.  I think the Cardinals win by a few more. Plattsburgh 92 Clarkson 80.

All-Time

The MagicMan never ceases to Amaze me.

Up Early posting his predictions for tonight's action.

If there is a Hall of Fame for the D3 Hoops Web Site, The Magicman is a 1st ballot inductee.

The work and effort he puts into the analysis of the games is truly Fantastic.
And his recaps are even Better.

I Hope the Plattsburgh Cardinals win the D3 National Championship for him.

Enjoy the Games

Well alrighty....The magic mans prognostications are all systems go, All Time and the Law Firm are back and even some cameo appearances from Riley 056 and The Greek tragedy have graced the SUNYAC boards. It must be the 1st full week of SUNYAC hoops.  With no less than 20 games this week, we finally see what the 2018 versions of all 10 'Yac teams look like, and with a 3-0 non conference start, I'd say things are looking good in the SUNYAC.  Here's to hoping all "Yac squads go 20-0 this week.

There's one squad in particular that I'm REALLY interested in seeing perform this week. In case if you haven't guessed it, its those BENGALS from Buffalo State. I've been a fan of these kids for the past 14 years. However I can't ever remember a tougher opener than the 1 facing the BENGALS this Saturday. Their 1st opponent is John Carroll. The Blue Streak are currently ranked #20th in D3 Hoops and the #7 ranked  as the best D3 team according to Massey. Their conference (Ohio Athletic Conference) is currently the 4th ranked conference in all of Div 3 basketball, according to Massey (SUNYAC is rated 28th)! With 2 of the BENGALS 1st 3 opponents (John Carroll and St John Fisher) ranked above them (BSC), according to Massey, it shouldn't take too long to see what my boys are made of.

Having snuck a glimpse of  my BENGALS in 2 scrimmages, versus Hilbert and D'Youville, I'm extremely excited about what this season team can do. Words like "Deep"...."Scappy".... "Chemistry" and "Athletic" come to mind when assessing the BUFF State team for 2018-19. As we all know...words are cheap and ACTION will ALWAYS speak louder than words! So here's to hoping that names like Kay Grant, Ryniek "Doc" Holloway (sounds like Doc Holiday...but Holloway is tougher), Dom Grayer, Yosh Bernardez, KJ Holmes, "Big Z" Zion Milton, "Machine Gun" Zak Ciezki, Sheldon Adams, Steven Calvo and the rest of the 2018-19 BUFFALO STATE BENGALS team can make Buffalo Ny, SUNYAC  and D3 followers nationwide.. believe in their ACTION . I believe that they can be that good.

On a side SUNYAC (Womens) note.... Buffalo State's  - Princesss McCullough scored 25 points (10 OF 15 from the field)), pulled down 21 rebounds (4th best total in BENGAL single game history) AND 6 blocks versus Morrisville...and yet not even a mention on the D3 Hoops "Team of The week' although no member of that team of the week has stats that that can compare to McCulloughs??!!?!  Hoping that Pat Coleman, Magicman, The Bear, FranElia or someone can offer some advice. Hoping that its not that dreaded BB (Bengal Bias) that prevented her from being recognized

Check and see if the SID reported it to D3hoops. Most of the time when a stat line like that doesn't get mentioned is because the player wasn't nominated by the school's SID. It's not always D3hoops missing the boat.

That was a pretty good game by that young lady and certainly should have merited a TOTW nod.

All-Time,

You are too kind, but thank you for those thoughts. I'll settle for that National Championship.

Days like today will probably get short changed as there are too many of them with too many games and I can't spend as much time as I used to. The magicman will be slowing down a bit this year. I'll post recaps of the Cardinal games and other big matchups  but will probably miss many of the games due to time constraints.

Hope everyone in the YAC has a good year and we win most of our non-conference games.

Potsdam 90, St. Lawrence 77.  Potsdam led by Dante Langley with 25 with 5 players in double figures.  Luke Hicks led the Saints with 21.  Riley Naclerio coming back from injury had 17 first half points for the Saints, and finished with 18...

Fair play to Potsdam, they looked legit.  SLU is still reeling from the graduation of Edwards and Kobis.

I was under the belief that there wasn't a Team of the Week this past week. I went into the system to nominate Nicky Bonura and there were no options available for basketball (just football and ice hockey). I will check with Pat Coleman to see why this happened. I'm disappointed, but I assume it was just some sort of technical glitch. -- Fran

And I just checked the site - there's no Team of the Week posted for this week. The last one posted was for last February. Bengals, if you have a link to the newest Team of the Week (if there is one), please post it here. Otherwise, I don't think there was one this past week. Thanks. -- Fran

Yeah - we don't have a Team of the Week as of yet. There hasn't been enough games.

I believe it will be next week for the first one? Pat tweeted something last week, so I'd have to go find it.
