Plattsburgh State moves into the top ten in the new D3hoops Top 25 poll out on Monday night. The Cardinals moved up 3 spots from #13 to #10. Their point total increased from 295 to 368.

Rochester moves up to #17 with 230 points. Last week they were #20 with 135 points.

Oswego State gets some votes and is listed in the Others Receiving Votes  at #35 with 12 points.

No other East Region team is listed. Here's the complete poll:   https://www.d3hoops.com/top25/men/2018-19/week2

No surprise that Plattsburgh State's Jon Patron was the SUNYAC Player of the Week for the Week ending on Sunday, December 2nd. Scoring 81 points and grabbing 41 rebounds in 3 games usually gets you that award.

I see the D3hoops boys also awarded him with a Team of the Week Award as well. Averaging 27 ppg and 13.7 rpg is pretty special. He also averaged 4 assists and 2 steals in those 3 games.

Here's the writeup from the SUNYAC website:  http://www.sunyacsports.com/sports/mbkb/2018-19/releases/20181203jv7sw0

Dec. 4    6 teams in action today with some tough matchups

Brockport State  @  Hobart        7:00 PM

The Statesmen will be looking to avenge last year's 89-83 loss to the Golden Eagles. It was a loss that kept Hobart at home in March while Port got to go dancing.  The oddsmakers have Hobart listed as a 2 point favorite in this one. They have some injury problems but they returned nearly their entire lineup. Already with 4 losses this season (they were 21-5 last year) they have lost to 3 pretty good teams and had a clunker the other night against a so-so Vassar team. I think they come out on top of the Golden Eagles in this one but I sure hope I'm wrong.  Hobart 79 Brockport 76.

Sage  @   New Paltz State        7:00 PM

The Hawks looked good against Plattsburgh State last Friday for a large part of the game. If they play like that I can see them winning this game. The point spread has them favored by a 4 point margin. I'll take the Hawks to win 89-81.

Potsdam State  @  SUNY-Canton        7:00 PM

The Bears are looking to put together a 4 game winning streak for the first time in over 12 years. Canton may just be the right opponent to accomplish that task against. The oddsmakers have the Bears listed as a 5 point favorite, but I think they win by a few more. Potsdam 87  Canton 78.

Fredonia State  @  Medaille        7:00 PM

The Blue Devils are still in search of that initial win. The oddsmakers don't see them getting it today. Neither do I. The Mavericks are favored by 10 points and that seems a little high. Medaille wins this one 83-77.

Geneseo State  @  #17 Rochester        8:00 PM

The Blue Knights will have their hands full with Rochester who is off to a 6-0 start and is ranked #17 in the D3hoops Top 25 poll. The oddsmakers have made the Yellowjackets an 11 point favorite in this one. Geneseo hasn't beaten Rochester in an least a dozen years and is 0-6 since 2000-07 season. Last year they lost by 22 points and Rochester returned more than the Knights did. I hope Geneseo can pull off the upset here but I don't see it happening. Rochester wins this one 77-65

#18 Middlebury  @  #10 Plattsburgh State        7:30 PM       The Featured Game of the Night

These two teams are both ranked in the D3hoops Top 25. Middlebury was ranked above Plattsburgh last week but a loss on Saturday to a good Keene State team, dropped the Panthers down a few notches as they come in at #18. Plattsburgh is listed at #10. The oddsmakers have made Plattsburgh a slim 2 point favorite in this one.

Middlebury has 7 players listed at 6'6" or taller but looks like only 4 of them get meaningful minutes. They get the bulk of their scoring from a pair of guards. Max Bosco, who comes off the bench is averaging 16.2 ppg and starter Jack Farrell averages 15.3 ppg. The other member of their big three is forward Matt Folger who averages 15.8 ppg. He also averages 9.8 rpg  but the leading rebounder is the other starting forward, Eric McCord. He's averaging 10 rpg but is doing it in just 17 minutes per game while Folger is playing 27 minutes per game. Starting guards Griffin Kornacker and Hilal Dahleh can hurt you as well. Last year they both had double figures against the Cardinals. Off the bench the Panthers get help from junior guard Perry DeLorenzo and Freshman forward Alex Sobel who is averaging 9.2 ppg and 6.5 rpg.

Plattsburgh has lost the last 4 games in this series and last year watched an 8 point halftime deficit grow to 22 points as the Panthers went on a 16-0 run when the Cardinals got close at 43-37. Plattsburgh ended up on the short end of a lop sided 91-68 final score. The Cardinals were missing their top gun, Jon Patron, in that game and hopefully he will be a difference maker tonight.

I expect a close game and don't envision a blowout this year by either team. I think the Cardinals are up for the challenge and feel we're due to win one against a solid Middlebury team. They are always well coached and they will be looking to avoid back to back losses. I'm taking Plattsburgh to win a tight one by an 84-80 final score

All-Time

It's time for the Cardinals to show a little muscle and finally beat Middlebury.
I have watched the last 4 games on line and Plattsburgh is the more talented team but Middlebury plays within themselves and is always fundamentally sound.

Expect Jon Patron to have a big night and with the Magicman waving that Magic Wand at home, I expect the Cardinals to win BIG Tonight.

Let's GOOOOOOOOOOO

thebear

SUNY Potsdam wins at SUNY Canton 77-74.

Bears dug out of a 14 point first half deficit, then withstood a furious Kangaroo comeback at the end.

Bears win their 4th straight game since ????.  Now 5-3 headed into a difficult trip to Genny and 'port.

PG Danny DelSol-Lowry led 4 Bears in double figures with 18.  Robert Holliday Jr. took Game honors for the Roos with 23.

7'1" SUNY Canton Aussie recruit Andrew Fitch added 4 blocks to his NCAA D-III leading total.

Go Bears!

The Plattsburgh Cards are for real as they take out the Panthers of Middlebury 92-83.  I'll let the magic one do the re cap. Hoping that Geneseo can knock off U of Rochester giving the YAC 2 wins in one night over ranked teams !

As already mentioned the Potsdam Bears are butter.... because they are on a roll ( with another win ).

Sunyac goes 3-3 last night. Liberty league gets thier first win vs  the Yac  :(

Just spoke to the Magic one. After Mondays game, he hung out with his 2 friends from Middlebury. He had to collect on a "strange" bet from his Midd buds on his Cards winning!  He should be recuperated by tomorrow!!

Plus K to all my friends looking out for me. I'll have my recap of Tuesday games up later tonight. Better late than never as they say. Just a bit rundown from doing things then were necessary around the house. Needed to recharge the batteries.
