All-Time

It's getting close to playoff time and my Oneonta Red Dragons just spanked Cortland.
I'm looking into Magicman's crystal ball and it looks like another Championship run for Coach Conover.
Let's GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Feb. 1

Only 2 games on tap tonight after two games were casualties of the heavy snowstorms plaguing the western part of the state

Plattsburgh State at  Buffalo State was postponed until Sunday. The women will play at noon and the men will follow at 2 PM.

Potsdam State at Fredonia State was also changed until Sunday, with the games at the same times 12 and 2.

The Saturday games with all ten teams in action will remain as scheduled.

Oneonta State  @  Geneseo State        7:30 PM

The Red Dragons won the first go around with the Knights and it wasn't pretty, beating Geneseo 83-56. The Red Dragons seem to be on the mend as they have won 3 of their last 4 conference games and are coming off a dominant win at Cortland on Tuesday. The Knights are still struggling and are 1-9 in their last 10 with only a win over last place Fredonia.  Oneonta, with a win and a New Paltz loss can tie their travel partners for the 6th playoff spot. The Hawks will still hold the tiebreaker over Oneonta by virtue of their 2 wins in head to head play, but it will make for great drama down the stretch as they fight for position. The oddsmakers have made Oneonta an 8 point favorite. I think they win by a score of 82-70.

New Paltz State  @  Brockport State   7:30 PM

The Hawks had Brockport on the ropes 3 weeks ago when they led by 8 points with 3:37 left in the game. The Golden Eagles pulled another one of their great escapes though, and took the lead with a 9-0 run in just 84 seconds. The Hawks still had a chance to win though, as they had a 63-62  lead and the ball with just 11 ticks left. They never got another shot as they turned it over, Brockport scored on a layup to go ahead by a point, the Hawks turned it over again with 5 seconds left and had to foul. Port made 1 of 2 and the clock ran out after the missed free throw. I know a certain coach that would like to have that one back. If New Paltz comes up short in their bid to make the playoffs that would be the game to point to, that cost them the opportunity.

New Paltz needs a win here to stay in front of Oneonta and have a comfort zone. The problem for the Hawks is Brockport is healthier than they were 3 weeks ago when they played without Justin Summers, their number one scorer and at the time their leading rebounder as well. I don't think they will walk out of Tuttle North Gym with a W and neither do the oddsmakers who have made Brockport an 8 point home favorite. I think they win by a few more. Brockport 86 New Paltz 72.

Oneonta leads Geneseo 36-35 at the half.

Oneonta led by 13 points from Andres Rivera.

Kevin Mackin and Joseph Bull with 9 each.  Bull with 7 boards.

Geneseo led by Zack Panebianco with 14 points.

New Paltz giving Brockport all they can handle. A one point game 33-32 with Port on top and 2:21 to play. The Golden Eagles score again with a minute left in the half to go into the locker room up 35-32.

Justin Summers and Danny Ashley both with 8 points for Brockport. Summers has 5 rebounds.
Jahidi Wallace with 7 points.

Tristan Wissemann with 8 points to lead the Hawks.
Scott Reisert with 7 points and 3 boards.

Feb. 2    Full slate of action this afternoon

New Paltz State  @  Geneseo State        4:00 PM

The Hawks got a big win yesterday, knocking off Brockport. Geneseo's losing streak is now at 4 games and the Knights are just 1-10 in their last 11 outings. Oddsmakers have them as a 3 point home dog. I think they turn the tables on the Hawks and pull off the mild upset. Geneseo wins this one 75-71.

Plattsburgh State  @  Fredonia State     4:00 PM

Cardinals and Blue Devils back in action after waiting out the storm. Plattsburgh is a heavy favorite in this one as the point spread is 25 points. The Cardinals have only won 1 game by 25 points all year as they continually squander double digit leads, but they should take care of business today. Plattsburgh 89  Fredonia 67.

Oneonta State  @  Brockport State          4:00 PM

Oneonta needs to do what New Paltz did yesterday and that's beat the Golden Eagles in their own barn. That's a tall order, even for fire breathing dragons. Golden Eagles can fly much faster. I don't see Brockport losing back to back games at home. Neither do the experts as they have made Brockport a 4 point favorite. Brockport wins a tight one 80-75.

Potsdam State  @  Buffalo State          4:00 PM

The Bears and the Bengals also back in action after the storm. Potsdam listed as a slim 2 point favorite. I think the Bengals pull a reversal of the game in Potsdam back in January when the Bears won by coming from behind in the last few minutes. Buffalo State 78 Potsdam 75.

Cortland State  @  Oswego State           4:00 PM  Featured Game of the Day

These Red Dragons are 6-7 against Oswego in the last 6 years. If they have any hopes of catching the first place Lakers they have to win today's game and hope the other teams, fighting for a top seed, can also waylay Oswego in the next 2 weeks. The oddsmakers don't give Cortland much hope as they have made the Lakers a solid 7 point favorite in this one. I'm picking the upset here because my Cardinals also need some help. Cortland 77 Oswego 74.

Plattsburgh leads Fredonia at halftime 50-33

The live stats I pulled up (from Sidearm) for the Cortland game were wrong on both counts, then, both at the half and the final score. Having problems lately with scores on some of those pages. Brockport game had live stats from 2 different services depending on whether you got the link from D3hoops scoreboard (Presto) or right off the Brockport website (Stretch), and they were both screwed up today.

I was just happy that Cortland was on the long end of that score. I was watching that game on and off while I was also watching the Cardinals.
