Any news on Plattsburgh yet? I'm sure those in the know have a clue on what's going on but being outside of the circle, I find it very interesting that a good job like Plattsburgh is still open with a month left until the season starts.

Phone interviews with 3 applicants were conducted this past Sunday. I have heard nothing new since then.

Down to four finalists. Three are head coaches in DIII another is an assistant in DIII.

Who knows where this goes ... it's been a mess so far.

Pllattsburgh State is holding interviews this week with 4 candidates from which they will choose a head coach for the Men's Basketball Team. All of them are head coaches or have been a head coach. Three of them do not have very good coaching records. In fact combined they have very few winning seasons. The 4th coach is from a college that's a member of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) He has an overall record at that school of 84-55 and would be a pretty good fit to coach at Plattsburgh.

He's certainly my choice to coach the Cardinals and I'm hoping that the persons that are doing this hire also feel the same way.
Looking into my crystal ball I believe he will get the job because he's the best applicant with the best qualifications. However my Cardinals were in this position over 2 months ago and that committee failed to make the right choice then, so there's no guarantee the college will make the right choice this time. Hopefully the new committee will have more common sense than the last committee. ::)

I expect the college will have their new coach by Monday, September 23rd or sooner.

Take what HoopDirt and Adam Nelson say with a grain of salt.

I will say I am quite sure they have hired, but Adam likes to do this to fish out sources who will reveal info whenever they can and at whatever cost.

And I will say more when I can. :)

The Stars are aligned again.  ;)

The Magicman is Happy with the selection.
Out of the 4 candidates the COMMITTEE finally selected the right 1.

The COMMITTEE though, doesn't get a pass for not selecting Chris Manning as their head coach.

Really thought I could convince the Magicman to be wearing Oneonta RED with me this season.

Wishing the players on the Plattsburgh Cardinals all the best this season.
Let the Games begin!!!!!

Plattsburgh State has made it official and named Mike Blaine the next head coach for the Men's Basketball program. Congratulations to Coach Blaine and welcome to the Cardinal program. I sincerely hope he will be able to continue the success at Plattsburgh that former coach Tom Curle brought to the Cardinals in his 16 years heading the program.

Coach Blaine has had great success at Medaille College which is a member of the Allegheny Mountain Athletic Conference. He has spent the last 5 years at Medaille and has taken the Mavericks to post season play in 4 of those years including 2 trips to the NCAA tournament. His record there was 84-55. He is also a coach that isn't afraid to schedule non-conference opponents that are quality teams with strong programs.

He was also an assistant coach at several Division I programs before he got the head coaching job at Medaille.

Here is a link to the Plattsburgh State news release that was put up earlier today announcing his hire:

Welcome to Plattsurgh State, Cardinal Country, and the SUNYAC, Coach Blaine!!!

Blaine also played basketball at Johns Hopkins and has been a finalist for a number of jobs the last few off seasons including Moravian a few weeks ago.

He fell into Plattsburgh's lap. He probably should have gone to a few schools far sooner.

The fact that Coach Blaine is 6'8" tall and was a center for Johns Hopkins should be extremely beneficial to a young Cardinals' team. Plattsburgh lost 5 senior starters off last year's team that finished in 2nd place in the SUNYAC's  regular season.  Plattsburgh has 6'11" sophomore center, Taylor Mason, returning, and brought in a 6'10" freshman to give the Cardinals a pair of big men that can only benefit from the experience of a head coach that was a DIII center back in his playing days.
