A slight leak in the bubble of the announcement of Coach Blaine's hiring is that much of that very strong 5 year w-l record was built up against the relatively weak competition in the AMCC conference... his record out of conference was 15-25... his record against the AMCC's best team, Penn St - Behrend was 3-9...that means his overall record was built up by a 66-21 record vs the rest of the AMCC... and for those not in the know, I'd think the AMCC would be rated a bottom 20% in D3

On the other hand, assuming the kids at the different AMCC schools have a similar level of skills coming into school, it does mean that Coach Blaine certainly competed and won at that level.... however, he'll have to prove himself at the large step up that Sunyac schools present vs his new team at Plattsburgh.
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

According to Massey, there are 48 D-III conferences listed [not all have AQ's].

AMCC as of the end of last year is ranked 38th out of 48, so 21st percentile.

By comparison, SUNYAC is ranked 20th.

The ranking are based on last years records, not accounting for lost players who played major roles in their teams success.
But overall a great group of basketball teams.
It should be a wild year in D3 hoops.

Still waiting for the Magicman to appear on the boards to give us his take on the 2019-2020 season.

This may be true for some, but the vast majority of voters utilize data we receive for THIS YEAR's squad on each of these teams to make our picks.  Pat is very thorough in reminding voters that people have graduated and coaches have moved on.  I think this is the best preseason poll we've had in a while on this respect.

I see Ryan did a good job handling this claim already, but yes -- I actually do feel the voters did a pretty good job taking player losses into account, hence Whitman and Wheaton with some big changes, the defending champ not No. 1, etc.

To be fair, what you said would certainly ring more true in the past.  Pat's done a good job increasing the integrity of the poll.  I often question how high the NESCAC and UAA schools are, seemingly by default, but when I went to do my ballot this year, they ended up pretty high on mine, too.  There were a lot of losses from last season - it just so happens the two national finalists bring a lot back.

The fact that Alfred did not receive any votes, while St. John Fisher, which the Saxons defeated three times last year, is #25, is a good indication that these rankings are NOT based on last year's results. AU graduated LaMorta, Brown and Stopera...Pep thinks this poll is as good as could be expected.

Incidentally, Saxons will meet new opponents this season in Westfield State, U. Mount Union and Kenyon as non-conference opponents. Will be interesting to see how a very young AU team performs this season.

I still think that Oneonta is the team to beat.  They have nearly everyone back, and have added a weapon in First Team All State Player Mason Flatley, [who I thought would get low D-I offers].  The run the O-Dragons put on the last three weeks of last season was impressive, They beat Oswego by 15 at Oswego and also beat Plattsburgh by 18.

Oswego loses Leading Scorer Tyson Pierre and ace 3 pt shooter [93] Quinn Carey.

Also Re: Brockport, 3rd team all conference player Devante Hagins [12pts 8 rebs]  is not listed on the roster at this time, and they also lose Chris Atkinson 9.9 ppg/93 asts who split time at PG and starter Josh Nelson, who started 27 games for the Eagles.

Food for thought

Something tells me that once all Yac teams roster are posed, then...and only then , will we get the Magicman's predictions.  Can't wait!

Oswego got two "significant" transfers that I think will change the conversation a bit on how good they will be. That said ... I wait to see games on the court. :)

The D3hops Preseason All-America Team was posted today and the East Region had 2 players chosen for this prestigious honor.

In the SUNYAC Conference, 6'5" senior forward Justin Summers of Brockport State, was named to the 3rd team. Summers is a two time SUNYAC FIrst Team All-Conference selection  during his sophomore and junior seasons. He will be counted on heavily by the Golden Eagles to make a run toward this year's conference crown and a bid to the NCAA tournament.

Also selected to the third team from the NEAC Conference was 6'4" Senior Kevin Dennis of Morrisville State. Dennis is a three time NEAC First Team All-Conference selection and has already scored close to 1600 points at Morrisville, to become their all time leading scorer.

Summers and Dennis were the only 2 players from the East Region to make the D3hoops All-America teams, and as fate would have it, they will both open the 2019-20 season next Tuesday, November 12th when they will face each other, as Brockport travels to Morrisville to take on the Mustangs at 6:00 PM.

Interestingly, New York State had more than twice as many of the 25 players selected than any other state. Five players from the Empire State made the cut while the next best state (Illinois, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin)  only had 2 each.
