Yes we did. Clearly the message sent to the Yac is Sheldon Adams is back ( that rhymes?).  Tourney mvp finished with 31pt on 11/20 shooting.  Shelly stepped up big in first half with 20 pts. as Buff State went into the half up 39-35.  Jordan Christopher finished with nearly his 2nd double double (13 pts and 8 boards). A hobbled Kay Grant chipped in 8 and 6.  However another freshman stepped up big today. Argjend  Ameri chipped in 10 pts off the bench along with adding some stellar defense in a crucial time. 2nd frosh in 2 days to make a significant contribution.

1st time the BENGALS have win the Coles tournament in 3 years. Now all I need us the Bills to win tomorrow  its a great weekend !

Go BENGALS!

Weekend Summaries.

Farmingdale State defeats Plattsburgh State 95-84

The Cardinals trailed the entire game but were never out of it after the big push they made to narrow the gap to 2 points at the break. Finding themselves down 32-16 with 8:17 left in the half didn't bode well for Plattsburgh but a 9-0 run cut it to single digits at 33-25. After the Rams built the lead back to 40-30 the Cardinal ripped off another 8 unanswered points to cut the deficit to 40-38. It was still a 2 point game at the break. Farmingdale opened up an 8 point advantage early in the 2nd period and managed to stay in front by 2 possessions for the first 12 minutes of the period. Plattsburgh finally got within 2 once again, at 73-71 with 8:50 to play and again at 75-73 but couldn't get the turnover or stop they needed to complete the comeback or grab a lead. In the crucial point of the contest the Rams got a hoop and harm, Plattsburgh missed on their end and the Rams scored again after grabbing an offensive rebound. The lead was back to 7 and Plattsburgh could never get it back to a single possession game. Twice they came within 4 points, the last time at 88-84 with 1:33 remaining, after the Cardinals' Cameron Ness hit a pair of free throws. The Rams came down and drained a three ball and the Cards came up empty with their turn. They were forced to foul and the lead grew to 11 when the Cards couldn't get any 3 pointers to fall. Overall it was a good first game for this young team. They didn't panic when they fell way behind, and weren't afraid to be aggressive on the offensive end.

Plattsburgh had 4 players in double figures and several players set career highs. Three freshman broke into the scoring column with their first points in a Cardinal uniform. I was impressed with the freshmen players and think we will have a bright outlook for the next few years as these young men continue to get better.

Junior Travis Cox showed why he will be one of our most valuable assets as he scored a career high 25 points, grabbed 6 boards, had 3 blocks and 2 assists.

Senior Nick DeAngelis is the only returning Cardinal with a number of starts but came off the bench in this game, played 27 minutes and scored 19 points, with 6 rebounds, 3 assists and a block.

Freshman center Cameron Ness had a excellent game in his Cardinal debut. The big man scored 19 points (7x10 from the field) and had 10 rebounds to start his career with a double-double. He is only going to get better.

Senior Jeremy Eisenman has patiently been waiting his turn  and had a career high 11 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists while playing 39 minutes, more than anyone else in the game.

Freshman Axel Rodriguez filled up the stat sheet with 6 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 blocks and a steal....with no turnovers as well. that will be a memorable first game for Axel. He will be a force for the Cardinals for the next 4 years.

Freshman Jalen Marshall came off the bench to score his first points as a Cardinal making both shots he took to score 4 points. He added 3 rebounds a steal and 1 assist in 11 minutes on the court. I look forward to seeing him playing at Plattsburgh over the next 4 years.

Weekend Summaries.

Plattsburgh State 79  CCNY 62

The Cardinals evened their record at 1-1 as they took the consolation game of the Hartwick Basketball Tip-Off Tournament and handed Coach Mike Blaine his initial victory as the Plattsburgh State Head Basketball Coach. I'm sure it will be the first of many more to come.

In this game it was the Cardinals that had the double digit lead after 10 minutes of play, as they broke away from the Beavers with a 16-4 run that turned an 11-9 lead into a 27-13 advantage. Yesterday it was Plattsburgh, who was on the short end of a 27-13 score after about 10 minutes of play. And also just like yesterday, when the Cardinals rebounded to close within 2 points of Farmingdale,  the Beavers fired up their offense and outscored Plattsburgh 16-4 over the next 8 minutes, to tighten the game up to a single possession at 31-29. The Cards got a layup from freshmen Jalen Marshall, a pair from the line by Jeremy Eisenman, and a dunk at the buzzer by Nick DeAngelis to take a 6 point lead into the locker room.

The teams traded baskets through the early part of the 2nd period with Plattsburgh holding onto a 3 to 6 point edge. Gradually the lead grew until it once again reached double figures when Axel Rodriguez drained a 3 pointer, to make it 56-45. The Beavers countered with a threeball of their own but DeAngelis drove to the basket for a layup and Rodriguez buried another triple to lead another Cardinal outburst that put Plattsburgh in front 75-53 with only 4:42 to go. CCNY chose not to start the foul parade and the Cards had their first win of tthe season.

Travis Cox was the leading scorer in the game with 19 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. He was selected to the All-Tournament Team.

Freshman Axel Rodriguez reset his career high with 15 points. He added 3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 steals.

Freshman Cameron Ness had 12 points, 7 rebounds, and 3 assists.

Freshman Erik Salo scored his first points as a Cardinal and just missed a double-double with 10 points and 9 boards.

Nick DeAngelis had 12 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.

Jeremy Eisenman had 7 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and a steal in a team high 34 minutes.

Sophomore guard Marlon Todd came off the bench and scored his first basket as a Cardinal. He also had 6 assists, 4 rebounds and a steal in 21 minutes on the court.

Plattsburgh (1-1) will return to action on November 19th when they will host St. Lawrence at 7:30 PM. It will be the home opener and the only time the Cardinals will be at home until after the New Year.  Only 11 home games this year.

Nov. 17      Just a single game scheduled for today

Potsdam State  @  NVU-Lyndon     2:00 PM

The Bears travel East to take on NVU-Lyndon, formerly known as Lyndon State. The NVU part is Northern Vermont University. There is also NVU-Johnson which used to be called Johnson State. Personally, I think they changed the names just so they didn't have to refer to all the Lyndon Johnson matchups whenever the two teams met in a sporting event, which happened a large number of time each year when you factor in all the men's and women's sports they played against each other. I imagine there were countless times the inevitable joke would pop up and it got pretty annoying after a while. At least that sounds like a good reason for the name change. I'm still trying to figure out all the different things we have going on in the SUNYAC. It used to be easy when we were all Potsdam State, Plattsburgh State or Oswego State. Now it's SUNY Potsdam, Plattsburgh State, or The College at Brockport. I continue to use the State moniker on all the schools. I'm old... I can do that. I went to Potsdam State and I now live in Plattsburgh State country. So there will never by a SUNY Plattsburgh or Potsdam in my lifetime.  ;D

Back to the ballgame. The Bears are playing a team that has a certain similarity to the Potsdam teams of a few years ago. Lyndon has a record of 6-43 over the past 2 seasons. They were 2-22 two years ago and doubled their win total last year going 4-21. This year they have already won 2 games beating Massachusetts College 95-88 and downing Norwich 103-97.  They lost to Vermont Tech, a USCAA college by a 106-97 score. Their latest game was a visit to play the DI Bryant University Bulldogs. They lost that game by a 116-67 final score but hung with the big dogs for 16 minutes of the first half and actually had the lead for a good stretch, midway through the period. Bryant ended the half on a 20-7 run and a 31-11 explosion to start the 2nd half put the game away.

Potsdam should win this game and is favored to do so by a 16 point margin. But this team scores a lot of points and takes a lot of 3 pointers. They play an up tempo game and use a lot of substitutions. Probably a modified Grinnell System, but I'm guessing since I haven't seen them play. Just know they are taking a lot of shots and a lot of 3's.

Potsdam needs to take care of the ball and limit their turnovers. Don't let this team hang around. Get up on them early and hold the lead. A first half like the SLU game would be nice.  I'll take the Bears to win this one 105-93.

Magic, pretty close on the Bears at halftime, they have scored 56 at the break, NVU-Lyndon has 35 at the break helped by a foul on a three with :03 where all three were made. BTW Low D-I Bryant only led 57 - 41 in an Ex on Friday.

Potsdam State leads NVU-Lyndon 56-35 at the half.

The Bears do exactly what I asked them to do and jumped out to an early double digit lead. They scored the first 9 points of the game and were up 13-3 only 4 minutes in. The lead varied between 6 -11 points over the next 10 minutes until Potsdam, up by 7 at 32-25, scored 10 straight points to go up 42-25 and coast into the break up by 21. Now they just need to keep the pressure on and not allow the Hornets to get back into the game.

Danny Delsol-Lowry has 16 points to lead the Bears.
Brandon Segar jr has 15 points, 8 rebounds and 3 assists.
Jayquan Thomas has 13 points and 5 rebounds.

Jahleel Gabriel has 8 points and 4 rebounds for the Hornets.

Bear,

As per my bolded type of your post apparently you're not paying attention to my pregame prognostications where I was all over that DI Bryant game.  ;D

All-Time

The SUNYAC is off and Running.

My Oneonta Red Dragons did not get off to a good start.
I know it's early, but it would have been nice if they came out the gate a little better.

Happy to see that the Plattsburgh Cardinals and the Buffalo State Bengals are off to good starts.
The season is always better when the Magicman and Bengalsrule are Happy campers.

The Magicman as always is on top of his game with his game analysis.
It's as if I'm at the game.
