Plattsburgh State 71 Fredonia State 65 Final score.

I had the Cardinals winning this one 72-67. My guys didn't let me down. They almost matched my prediction. The Cardinals trailed in this game for over 32 minutes. Down 50-42 with 10:43 to play, Plattsburgh went on a 14-2 tear and finally got their first lead of the night at 54-52 with 6:32 left in the game on back to back buckets by Cameron Ness. Cameron added another basket to make it 56-52 and when Fredonia crept closer he added his fourth basket in a row for Plattsburgh to make it 58-54. He also had 5 rebounds during that stretch. It took the Cardinals a long time to get the lead and once they had it they never let it go. Fredonia scored to get within 2 points but Nick DeAngelis got a hoop and harm to build the lead back to 5. The Cardinals hit 8 of 9 from the line to close out the Blue Devils.

Plattsburgh
Big game from Freshman Cameron Ness with a double-double of 16 points and 12 rebounds, along with 4 blocks. He was the game's high scorer and leading rebounder as well. The 12 rebounds matched his career high.
Nick DeAngelis with a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds. He also had 4 assists.
Travis Cox also had 13 points along with 5 assists, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and a block.
Axel Rodriguez had 11 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds.
Erik Salo had 8 points, 8 rebounds, an assist, a block and a steal.
Matt Bernhard had 6 points in 13 minutes with 2 huge 3 pointers.
Jeremy Eisenmann had 6 rebounds, 4 points, an assist and a steal.

Fredonia
Dydy Bryan led the team with 14 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 steals.
De'Quan Smith had 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 assists.
Tyler Roberts had 11 points and 4 rebounds.
Moussa Samassa had 9 points, 7 rebounds, 2 assists, a block and a steal.
Chad Biersbach had 9 points and 7 rebounds

Plattsburgh won this game at the line as they went 17-21 (81%) from the stripe. Fredonia only had 6 attempts and made 4 of them (66%)
The other shooting stats were fairly even.
Rebounds were close as the Cards enjoyed a slight 44-42 edge
Turnovers were even as both teams had 12 giveaways.

Plattsburgh improves to 8-12 overall and 5-8 in the SUNYAC. They are tied with Geneseo for the 6th and final playoff spot but presently hold the tiebreaker over the Knights. They will host Buffalo State on Saturday afternoon at 4:00PM.

Fredonia falls to 7-13 overall and 3-10 in the YAC. They will travel over to Potsdam for a Saturday afternoon contest with the Bears.

Brockport 85 Oneonta 75.

The Golden Eagles come away with sole possession of first place and will be very hard to beat even with another loss. The sweep of Oneonta gives them a leg up on Potsdam and Oswego should either of those teams end up in a tie with Brockport.

Tyler Collins 22 points, Jahidi Wallace 15 points, and Tyree Grimsley with a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds were the big guns for the Golden Eagles tonight.

The Red Dragons' Andres Rivera captured scoring and rebounding honors with his double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds.
Harrison Deegan had 23 points and 5 assists. Kevin Mackin had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

Feb. 8        Everyone in action today

Not much time today so just some quick picks.

Geneseo State  at  Oneonta State     4:00 PM

Knights are road dogs by 13 points. Even without Joe Bull the Red Dragons should win this one. Oneonta 80 Geneseo 69

Brockport State  at  New Paltz State  4:00 PM

The Golden Eagles sittin pretty atop the YAC. Coach Dunne will make sure they don't take the Hawks lightly. Experts made Port 20 point favorites. That may not be enough. Brockport has won 10 in a row and 9 of them by large margins.  Brockport 89 New Paltz 66.

Buffalo State  at  Plattsburgh State     4:00 PM

These teams battled through an overtime period before a winner emerged and it was the Cardinals by an 87-85 final score. I expect another close game that will be decided in the final possessions. The Bengals have got to be the unluckiest team in the country over the last 2 years with the number of close decisions they have dropped. I hope Lady Luck stays away for one more game and then moves in to the Buff State locker room for the rest of the year. Plattsburg hoping to be in sole possession of 6th place at the end of the day. Will have to work hard today after working hard yesterday. The Bengals worked hard as well and almost sprung the upset at Potsdam, where they led by 5 points late in the game. Again no luck as Potsdam rallied for the win.

The oddsmakers have Plattsurgh favored by 6 points. I think it might be a little closer and see a final score of Plattsburgh 79  Buffalo State 76

Oswego State  at  Cortland State     4:00 PM Featured Game of the Day

Another game that is tough to call between the 4th and 5th place teams in the conference. Oswego still has some hope of winning the top seed. Cortland, with 5 losses already, just wants to improve their position if possible. They also would like a little revenge over the Lakers for the close loss they suffered in Oswego 3 weeks ago. Cortland leads 6-5 in the last 11 meetings.

The experts have made Cortland a slim 2 point favorite in this one, but I like the Lakers to sweep the season series. Oswego 75 Cortland 71

Fredonia State  at  Potsdam State     4:00 PM

Fredonia hoping to go home with a 1-1 weekend visit to the North Country after a loss yesterday to Plattsburgh. They'll have to shoot lights out and hope the Bears can't. The experts favor the Bears by 21 points but the Blue Devils are capable of pulling off the upset. Capable, but not probable. Potsdam 86 Fredonia 66.

Buffalo State leads Plattsburgh 49-44  at the half.

Teams fight it out early until the Bengals open up a 13 point lead at 49-36 with 2:36 to play. Cardinal end the half on an 8-0 run to get within 5.

Buffalo State gets a big first half from Jordan Christopher with 17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals and a block.
Sheldon Adams with 12 points, 5 assists and 2 rebounds.

Plattsburgh gets a big effort from Erik Salo who has 18 points, 4 rebounds and a block.
Matt Bernhard comes off the bench to hit 2 big treys.

magicman

Cortland 35 Oswego 34 at the half.

The Lakers had the early double digit lead in this one up 19-8 but Cortland came back and took the lead 27-26 on an Eric Edwards layup with 3:37 left in the period. They traded baskets right down to the buzzer as Austin Grunder hit a three pointer as the clock hit 0:00 to give the Red Dragons the halftime lead.

Austin Grunder leads Cortland with 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists.
Ertic Edwards with 6 points.

The Lakers get 13 points and 4 rebounds from Joe Sullivan.
Brandan Gartland with 9 points and Liam Sanborn with 8.

Oneonta leads Geneseo 54-25 with 11:26 left to play.

Brockport leads New Platz 49-31 in the 2nd half  Around 15 mintes left.  No live stats.

Finally some news from Potsdam. They lead Fredonia 39-30 with 16:19 to go in the gamw.

Almost forgot this...The SUNYAC Player of the Week for the period ending February 2nd was Cortland's junior guard, Jake DiSanto. Here's the write up from the SUNYAC website.

"CORTLAND, N.Y. - The State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) has named Cortland's Jake DiSanto (Victor, N.Y.) the PrestoSports Men's Basketball Athlete of the Week.

DiSanto shot 9-for-13 from 3-point range (10-for-14 overall) and scored a career-high 29 points, and also added four assists, in Cortland's 100-73 victory at Buffalo State Saturday. He scored 20 of his points in the first half to help the Red Dragons build a 61-34 halftime lead. DiSanto's nine 3-pointers were one shy of the Cortland single-game record. The previous night he scored 15 points on 5-of-9 3-point shooting in an 82-68 win at Fredonia. DiSanto finished the week averaging 22 points per game and shooting 14-for-22 (64 percent) from the 3-point arc."

Congratulation to Jake for taking home the weekly award.

Brockport looking to get a little more love in the D3hoops Top 25 poll. Their winning streak has reached 11 in a row and they have all been by double digits, with 1 exception, (a three  point win over Potsdam). I know they won't make the Top 25 but should gain a few more votes in the Others Recieving Votes category.
