Ditto all the comments made about the COVID-19 and the GREAT SEASON for the Eagles. It is sad that it had to end this way, but at least it is on a win! As we all know, only 1 team would have ended that way in the finals. Many accomplishments for this squad and thanks to seniors for your tremendous leadership. Good luck, Eagles!!

Brockport needs to get the T-shirts printed up:

Brockport Co-National Champions

I'd lose the "co" for everyone.  Every one of these schools should make up National Champion T-shirts.

I agree with that, Ryan. 8-)

I was reading some posts from the SLIAC board earlier today and then went into town around 9 PM to get groceries. (less people around and much easier to shop) Just now got back on the computer and pulled up the  D3 boards and since I was on the SLIAC board when I left, I was still there when I came back. I refreshed the page and spotted a new post...it was from you and it was a breakdown of all the SLIAC teams and who lost players to graduation and who was coming back. I looked it over and said to myself....I should send the Greek a PM and tell him to do the same thing for the SUNYAC. He must really have a lot of time on his hands.

Decided to check out the SUNYAC board and didn't think there would be any new posts since the season is over but wait....there's a post from the Greek and it's a breakdown of the top teams in the YAC. Talk about reading a person's mind.  You must be gaining some magical powers or did you consult with that famous Oracle?

And you certainly didn't steal my thunder, but you're always welcome to do so. 8-)

I only did the top 5, partially because I'm lazy and also because there seemed to be a HUGE drop-off after Cortland. Could someone really make that much of a significant jump from 6-12 Geneseo to 11-7 Cortland?

That's probaly all you needed to do. Maybe some of the bottom teams will get some transfers and/or recruits to help them make a big jump up the standings but that's something to be determined.

Brockport finishes the season as #11 in the final D3hoops Top 25 poll. They moved up from #18 with 184 points to the #11 spot with 331 points.

I'm convinced they would have been higher had the season played out. I'm pretty sure they would have won their game against Tufts which would have put them into the Elite Eight, with most likely a matchup against Swarthmore to get to the semis. That would have been an interesting game. Massey had Swarthmore listed as a 3 point favorite which means either team could have won that game.

At any rate they did pretty good for a team that only received 2 points in the Top 25 preseason poll.

Other teams from the East Region to receive votes in the final poll were:

Hobart....The Statesmen finished in the #20 spot with a total of 172 points. They weren't mentioned in the previous poll and also had no votes in the preseason poll.  They might have finished higher as well, if the season played out. Their matchup against Christopher Newport was a game they might have won if contested.

RPI...They got 11 points in the Others Receiving Votes and finished in the #31st spot. They were 29th with 28 points in the previous poll. Won a first round game and lost to Tufts to slide a bit. Also not mentioned in the preseason poll.

Ithaca...The Bombers should have finished ahead of RPI in my opinion. but only got 8 points in the final poll to come in the #33 spot. Ithaca beat RPI 2 out of 3 games in the regular season, most importantly for the Liberty League Crown and automatic bid. They also beat Babson in the first round which I think was a stronger team than New England College the team that RPI beat in the first round. Babson defeated Tufts by 14 points when those teams played. Tufts defeated RPI by 9 points. Ithaca beat Babson by 6 points. Ithaca was the recipient of 2 points in the previous poll and received no points in the preseason poll.

Penn State-Harrisburg....The Lions got 7 points in the final poll to finish in the #34th spot and their upset of host Johns Hopkins in double overtime was regarded as one of the bigger upsets in the tournament. Coming out of the lightly regarded NEAC Conference the Lions final ranking was well deserved. Like Ithaca, the Lions received no previous mention in the D3 polls.

Oswego 83 points, Oneonta 5 points, Rochester 5 points and Brockport 2 points were the only East Region teams mentioned in the preseason poll. Brockport, the team with the least amount of preseason support, on that list, is the only one that was in the final poll.

Congratulations to the 5 East Regions teams that were mentioned in the final poll.

For anyone interested, here's a couple of opportunities to watch historic D-III Championship games

On Monday, April 6 at 7:30 p.m. view the 1981 championship game between SUNY Potsdam and Augustana. This game was played in Rock Island and memorable as freshman (and eventual 2x D-III player of the year) Leroy Witherspoon hit a 35 footer at the buzzer in regulation to send the game into overtime.

On Monday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. view the 1986 championship game between SUNY Potsdam and LeMoyne-Owen.

I will post the link as it becomes available.

Coach Jerry Welsh -- who led the Potsdam Bears Men's Basketball Team to both Division III National Championships wins -- will provide a welcome message before the games.

ESPN's Scott Van Pelt has been honoring seniors the past few weeks and tonight, April 9th, he had on Sports Center the Brockport State Golden Eagles.

ESPN started with the video of Tyler Collins making the half court shot at the buzzer, to end the first half of the NCAA 1st round game against Coast Guard, that Brockport won 92-86.

Then they showed a video of the Golden Eagles celebrating in the locker room but I'm not sure if that celebration they were showing, took place after the win over Coast Guard or if it was the next day after the Golden Eagles defeated Middlebury. It was funny to see Coach Dunne and the other coaches jumping up and down, right in the middle of the team, as they were getting doused by all of the players with their Gatorade bottles. It was such a celebration I'm thinking it was after the 2nd round win over Middlebury that put Brockport into the Sweet 16.

I sure wish the team had the chance to play on.

It was nice to see them get some love by ESPN and the seniors get a mention.

Two days ago ESPN featured the Plattsburgh State Women's Hockey Team who were ranked #1 all year long and were favored to win the National Championship. It would have been the Cardinals 2nd straight title and 6th one in the last 7 years. They also set a record back on November 30th, 2019, of 26 consecutive wins. It's the longest winning streak in NCAA Division III women's ice hockey history. They are currently on an 18 game winning streak which is the longest active winning streak in NCAA Division III women's ice hockey.

Plattsburgh State also set the record for the longest home winning streak in NCAA Division III women's ice hockey as the Cardinals defeated Oswego State, 3-0, on Saturday, Nov. 9, for their 29th consecutive home win. The Cardinals' home winning streak now stands at 40 games and counting, after they went undefeated at home (14-0-0) on the season.

Nice to see the SUNYAC get mentioned on ESPN twice within a few days.
