What a way to start the weekend. New Paltz wins in a slugfest with Misericordia 89-77. Rylan Blondo who scored his 1,000 point , had another all-around performance with 26 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists. AJ Knight on 8-9 shooting and Kobe Bogart who was 7-13 from the field both finished with 18  points . It was a fast paced physical game and New Paltz answered every run by Misericordia. A great game to watch.

Day two of the weekend and  it was a tale of two halves.New Paltz survives in OT against a Hunter team that never gave up. Trailing 38-22 at the half , Hunter came out with intensity, they climbed all the way back on a 14-3 run to close it to 41-36. New Paltz starters looked a little tired, no doubt from the battle the night before. Their shots were coming up short and on the defensive side they just seemed a tad slower. Hunter led by Kareem McDonald with 22 points and Casey Meyers14 led Hunter to take an 51-46 lead. Outscoring New Paltz 29-8. New Paltz did have a little fight left in them and tied the score at 64. Hunter had the last shot in regulation but New Paltz forced a tough shot and into overtime they went. New Paltz hit 8-10 foul shots in the added stanza and were led by Rylan Blondo with 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. AJ Knight and Kobe Bogart Bogart chipped in with 11 points. Showing what a difference a day makes, New Paltz shot 3-17 from 3 on open looks for a dismal 17%. The night before with fresh legs they shot 8-19 for a 42% clip.

Cortland four game win string clipped 83-79 Saturday by visiting Utica. RDragons D. Linehan lands 26 pts -- nearly all in the second half on 9x14fg, 8x13 3s, 5reb, 3asst, and 24pts from A. Coston on 8x10fg along with K. Arcuri 11 pts, 6reb but outscored 23-3 by UC bench. Corts take early 10 point lead. Hold their last advantage at 33-32 ....then don't score the first half's final 4:23. Utica up 41-33 at the break and forge largest lead of 46-33. Dragons within three in the closing minutes. CSt 30x61fg, 12x32 3s; UC 31x62fg, 6x12 3s. D. Call 19pts, 10rebs; H. Foley 15 pts; J. Brantley 15pts; L. Bourgault 12pts; L. Teague 11pts for Uticans.

New Paltz upsets Oswego 85-80 in Saturday conference tourney title game at OSt. Hawks get automatic NCAA tourney slot and will join Oswego whose regular season unbeaten play takes Lakers to SUNYAC playoff top seed. NP second seed and thumps Oneonta in Friday semi while Oswego needs second half push to get past pesky Cortland and bid for three-peat crown.
  Oswego up 45-41 at half over NP and 60-46 at 14:45 of second half. K. Bogart two FTs provide 69-68 NP lead at 5:52. Hawks stretch to 76-68 at 2:59 and 79-72 at :52. Lakers within 81-80 as J. Sparks disdains 3-shot for layup at :23. A.J. Knight lands two NP free throws at :11 for 83-80 lead. Sparks misses desparation three and Hawks get closing layup for final.

Easy for me to say now but I had a feeling Oswego wouldn't get past the first weekend. Despite their record they didn't look like the every day buzz saw they were last year. Most of that can probably be attributed to having that glacier sized target on their backs after their incredible run last season. Williams is a team that matched up against them as well as any top team in the field with their stifling defense and penchant for making clutch shots. Oswego almost out dueled them in that regard.  Either way, that's a disappointing end to their season especially since they started 4 fifth year players and brought a 6th year off the bench.

They will lose a ton of scoring, rebounding and experience. Their bench is better than a lot of teams and Leone recruits well but I would not be shocked to see them take a step back on the national stage next year. Looking at the rest of the SUNYAC I don't foresee them taking a step back in league play, especially since New Paltz loses several key 5th years as well. I imagine Oswego and Brockport will battle it out as usual but with Morrisville now added to the mix they could certainly have something to say.

Oswego doesn't have his freshman year listed on his bio on their site for some reason, but I think you're right.  He played three years at St. Rose and two at Oswego.

New to the board, proud Cortland Alumn!I would not count out the Cortland Red Dragons to compete for the chance to win the SUNYAC just yet! They have 2 1st team guys returning in 6'4 guard/forward Kendall Arucri & 6'7 forward Aaron Coston next year along side senior pg Jaylen Warmack who led the SUNYAC in assists. It sucks to have both Brockport & Geneseo leave the league but I also believe Morrisville will be able to compete right away if they can retain majority of their roster. We all know Oswego will reload and Keith has done an incredible job at New Paltz so they will be in the mix. If Kevin Tabb returns to Plattsburgh I think they will also be competitive. All of this makes for an interesting 2024-2025 season, is it November yet? hahaha

Preseason favorites in SUNYAC are obviously Oswego again.  Their new additions are really solid.  Newcomer Morrisville I'm sure will be very competitive. Plattsburgh and looks good, as does Cortland.

Seems like a very unbalanced conference with the bottom teams very bad.  Canton is new this year and will struggle.  Potsdam has arguably the weakest roster they've had in years, with an average team height of about 6'2". Fredonia is weak as well, although building.

  Cortland vs. RPI before Potsdam faces host Nazareth
  Buffalo St. at Hilbert (Franciscan vs. Lycoming)
  Oswego vs. Muhlenbeg in Rochester where host plays Muskingum OH
  And new SUNYAC affiliate Canton vs. no longer SUNYAC member Brockport at Cleveland OH's Case Western Reserve which meets Penn St.-Altoona

Also Friday:
  Fredonia at U. Buffalo
  Plattsburgh home vs. Skidmore

And the remaining three conference teams debut:
  New Paltz at John Jay and Oneonta at Hartwick on Wednesday. New SUNYAC member Morrisville at Houghton on Thursday
