Brockport battles back a good deal at OState where Dragons hold 38-36 lead at half and by nine early in second period. Match tied at 4:09 and at 73 at 1:27 when B. Bellucci sinks FT pair. J. Cheves, who led earlier second half comeback, made FTs at 0:05 for 77-73 margin. S. Coffey trey at end. Bellucci 24 pts(8x14fg, 3x4 3s) in 31'; J. Cheves 21 pts(6x17fg, 4x9 3s), 5 rebs; Jon Rother 17 pts; M. Wilkes 5 assts, 3 stls. Eagles 21x29ft to OState's 12x25. Coffey 23 pts (7x9 3s), 5 rebs; J. Murphy 14 pts; M. Reardon 14 pts, 9 assts. OState 10x15 beyond arc

SUNYIT wins in OT and makes 14x28 3s. Geneseo ahead 40-39 at half and led by S. McDonnell 20 pts

NP ends 10 game skid as J. Hauser has 26 pts(6x10 3s), J. Sugrue 15 pts(5x6 3s). Fredonia ahead 39-32 at half. T. alassari 17 pts, D. Watkins 13, T. Anderson 13 and 12 rebs. NP's M. Irwin trey at 5' puts Hawks up for good. Has 8 pts, 4 assts

The best shot at No. 1 tourney seed, in other words regular season title holder?
Obviously Cortland and Oswego have a leg up. Both 9-1 and two game lead. And down the stretch they come ........with CState seemingly a schedule edge. Dragons' February slate includes two games with cellar dwelling NP and singles with playoff challenged Geneseo and Fredonia (latter pair on final weekend), and key dates with SUNYIT and Bport (both at home).

Oswego's closing six league dates include road date tonight at rushing Pburgh, home tests with BS, NP and OneSt, and a seemingly deciding final week at Pdam and Bport. Lakers have pretty much relied on starting five, especially Mims, Perioli and Burridge. Thrown in for good measure next week is home game vs. solid Utica College

Cortland uncharacteristically in a bit of a downswing late in the season. Shooting percentages off of late. Of course, rugged defensive play remains, and F. Ranieri is the steady one. S. Taggart came up big last Saturday as did bomber D. Maggiacomo. Also came a huge lift off the bench from heretofore unknown frosh guard J. Miolan (15').

Bport is 6-3 and up against it, though certainly capable. Toughest schedule overall. And Eagles run for home starts tonight at dangerous Buff St., whose postseason hopes are surprisingly iffy. Bport also has Pdam, Pburgh, Geneseo, Oswegos at home, and go to Utica and Cortland.  Real longshot with that slate.

Potsdam at 5-3 starts a 'must' win closing kick tonight in north country against 6-4 Utica Tech. In another week Bears are in Utica. Away games at Bport, Geneseo are slated next weekend. Final four dates are with BS, Fredonia and Oswego at home, and windup at Oneonta.

Also tonight, Fredonia is at Geneseo, and Oneonta has outsider at Ithaca.

In a race for the final three playoff spots at the moment: Pburgh 4-5, Gens 3-5, BS 3-6, Freds 3-7, Oneontas 2-8, NP 2-9

Right on the money, jdex.

Cortland with the decided edge in scheduling.

Important games in the north country. Plattsburgh is always a tough venue and it's time for the Cards to put up or, as has been characteristic of last couple of years, crash and burn down the stretch. Oswego has tough road wins v. IT and Cortland and they need this one.

Bears season is on the line this week. IT tonight and away in Rochester this weekend.  I know the bear was hoping Potsdam would hang in close enough in the first half of the season and then ...a light at the end of the tunnel. They have done the first, but you know what the light is.

Barton 17 pts(6x14fg, 2x2 3s), 10 reb, 3 assts, 4pf in 29'; D. Brown 15 pts(3x5s). Utica 42-35 reb margin

Geneseo's S. McDonnell nine 3s set Knights' record. Finishes with 28 pts (9x12fg -- all 3s) in 23'. Breaks mark of all-time SUNYAC best Scott Fitch in early 90s (Fitch coached McDonnell at Fairport). Gens and Freds 25-25 till home team breaks to 44-28 halftime lead. McDonnell 6x7 first half. Gens 28x51fg. T. Anderson paces Freds with 20 pts(7x10fg, 4x4 3s); C. Donahue 10 pts; A. Smith 9 pts, 9 rebs

Oneonta always has Ithaca in sight -- never more than 9 back. IC 36-33 at half. OState has brief 49-48 edge at 9:20. S. Coffey 18 pts(5x12 3s) in 27'; M. Reardon 12 pts; J. Murphy 10 pts, 5pf in 21'. J. Bellis 23 pts; Andruskiewicz 22 pts, 16 reb for IC

Jdex on the move, folks. Probably no computer access for February, just the sun of FLA. Will scramble to stay abreast .......Go TSpan & CState!!

Props to the Cards. Career game for Gibbs-Smith torching the Lakers for 35 and 11 rebs.

It's 11:30 pm and it would be nice to see a box score...somewhere...anywhere.

Bears beaten at home. Next year will schedule all home games in Vermont, New Jersey, and the US Virgin islands  to avoid CNY z-crews. For the past several years, the best place to play Potsdam has been at home. Famous for getting "homed" at home.

Amazing stats of the game: (1) Potsdam converts 5 more FG and 5 more 3's and still losses by 12.  (2) 11 more PFs blown against Potsdam yields 30 additional FTs for IT.

Cortland will sleep well tonight...no one else in SUNYAC playing D.

Say it aint so, jdex.  It's been great to have your posts from the sunbelt. I'll  second your closing thoughts for span and the c-state crew.

Yes, SUNYIT did get to the f.t. line 30 more times than Potsdam. They were aggresive and they did take the ball to the hole hard. What got me was that Coach Murphy was up "chatting" with the refs ALL game. I know because I sat right behind him. Coach Dobbs had a seat, I don't know how much he left it as I wasn't seated behind him, but once when he got up to question a call he was given a "T". I thought that at least one of the other officials was going to step in and say something as the official who blew the 2 calls was screened out and did not get a good look at the play. Then again, why should I think that the officials would do something right???

Big weekend for the home teams:

Friday

Brockport outscores Potsdam; neither play D
Oswego over anyone (Buff State) at home; can't beat their z's
Fredonia past Oneonta; Ah, what a year it coulda' been...
Geneseo, pushing for 4th, gets by G-Smith. Oh, right, Plattsburg.
Cortland slows down IT and gets win (if they get a friendly crew). Else, the Wildcats pull off the upset and the squeeze on 1-4 in the conference begins

Saturday...More of the same for the home boys.

Plattsburg and Potsdam in must win games at Brockport and Geneseo. Doesn't happen.

Visiting friends in Rochester this weekend and checking out Brockport both Friday and Saturday. He predicts Brockport runs the table, Cortland and Oswego lose twice, all three finish 13-3. Hmmm, if Eagles can average 180 per game...

bports

Absolutely no way bport runs the table. They have a tough schedule down the stretch and they are way to thin. There starting 5 is as good as most anyone but they just dont have any depth. Im not sure if cheves can even play tonight or not, there was a scuffle at the end of the buff st game and he got tossed out. Its to bad they dont have there whole team because the really could have done some serious damage with williams, harris and mandalano. To make these kids sit the whole year for a small infraction makes me sick, someone over there needs to wake up. Kids make mistakes and this punishment did not fit the crime.

thumbsup

new to the sunyac board.  Only one take here.  I was at the P-dam, Utica game.  Poorly officiated both ways.  Awful "T".  That being said, every night it seems I watch a poorly officiated game.  Some nights they let em play, some nights your in the one and one 8 minutes in.  I have never felt referees cost people games, but they need some new blood.  these guys are plain awful and don't work out there.  They even look bad at times.  Nothing against Utica-tech, they should have won the game, led wire to wire.

bearseh

Just got back from Brockport/Potsdam.
What a mess. As expected, neither played D. Only surprise was that the z-crew at this fiasco reminded me once again that incompetence is relative.

Props to Plattsburg. 40 min for G-Smith. Looking forward to Saturday afternoon at B'port.

What happened in Oswego?

C'state..steady as she goes.
