Sitting in Myrtle Beach after 3 great days of basketball in Salem. Both semis were well played nail-biters. Amherst held off a solid Wooster rally and VWC squeeked by WU StL when the Bears last shoot got off just after the horn. Great performances out of Tom Port (Wooster), Sean Wallis (Wash), Brandon Adair (VWC), and Olsen (Amherst) as per MVP.

Finals a total snooze. VWC played poorly. Too much pointless dribbling leading to unforced turnovers, mindless shot selection, and Adair dropped a bomb. 3-11 from the line included many front end of 1 and 1 misses. Amherst was too deep and balanced, protected the ball. Never in doubt.

Overall...

1. Brockport, SJF, can compete with any of this year's final 4.
2.  Wooster brought the whole town. Great support.
3. Amherst fans the loudest and crudest.
4. Salem knows how to throw a party (move this up to 1.)
5. Montano's - fabulous restaurant. Superb filet, scallops, shrimp, live acoustic music. Should not be missed.
6. Burgland Ford - Got us out of major car trouble with incredible service, care, and attention (they really are #1). Thanks again.
7. And as, we have grown to expect from our D3 zebras, they were, of course, inconsistent, often confused, villified by coaches, fans, next of kin...but they're our zebras. In fact, one of our little favorites from Utica worked a semi along with a western NY lad that we love in the greater Roch area. Just like home.

Appreciate all the time that several have contributed to the board throughout the season.

Looking forward to golf, riding the Triumph,  and next October 15th.

One last nod to the 04-05 Bears out there.

Williams Tabbed All-District by NABC Coaches ;D

KANSAS CITY, Mo.  - Plattsburgh State men's basketball player Anthony Williams collected another award for his trophy case on Tuesday when the National Association of Basketball Coaches selected him to the NABC Division III East All-District First Team. He finished third in the player of the year balloting behind Utica's Ray Bryant and Hamilton's Tsakani Ngobeni.

Williams, who helped the Cardinals to a 21-9 mark (school record for victories in a season), second consecutive State University of New York Athletic Conference championship and first NCAA Tournament win since 1976 in their second straight trip to the Big Dance, has also been named the SUNYAC Player of the Year, D3hoops.com All-East Region First Team and SUNYAC All-Tournament Team.

A 6-1 junior guard from Brooklyn (Paul Robeson High School), Williams averaged a conference-leading 21.6 points, 4.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game.  His performance during the SUNYAC tournament was even better, averaging 25.5 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists in three games en route to the title.

Have to believe J. Rother's collegiate career finally over after many stops. Took part in NJAC/Skyline Senior Game. Had 7pts, 4rebs in 7' in 146-124 NJAC win. Rother's Wm Paterson squad had disappointing 15-10 campaign. Pioneers expected to make nat'l waves

KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Anthony Williams' accolades continue as he was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) NCAA Division III third-team All-America team. Williams is the lone representative of the SUNYAC conference, and the first basketball player to receive this honor in Plattsburgh State history. Williams led the SUNYAC in points, assists and steals while helping the Cardinals secure its second consecutive SUNYAC championship. Williams has also been selected as the SUNYAC Player of the Year, D3hoops.com All-East Region First Team, NABC East All-District First Team and SUNYAC All-Tournament Team. ;D

I see that Morrisville's 07-08 schedule is up on their site and that they play a full slate of SUNYAC games   -  what is their status  -  do their games count in the other teams' league records?
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

thebear

As I understand it, Morrisville's games will count in the SUNYAC standings, as well as regional W-L.

Since the SUNYAC is an automatic bid conference, Morrisville won't be eligible for the conference tournament until they are eligible for full NCAA membership.

In effect, they become spoilers until they are a full member.

Morrisville does not count as a regional opponent until 2008-09.

i hear some rumblings out of new paltz? anyone in "the know" about possible shake ups in that program???

slickyquick

Well the job is posted on the NCAA website so I would assume that Dougie P resigned to take another position or was fired. I haven't heard anything regarding the situation though.

He's returning to Homer HS.  Near his wife's hometown.

College coaching is a tough gig when you have a growing family.

Once again, the board is prescient.

wish him nothing but the best of luck, everything ive heard about him, although never had the pleasure of meeting him, has been positive.

about being prescient....i have some people in my life who are/have been close to the program so I had to ask around here when i heard the Rumor.

bports

I have heard from 2 people that Bport has 2 big time players coming in next year to go along with there top 13 players returning. One of them is a transfer from a div 1 school and im not sure if the other is a transfer or frosh? I dont want to jinx this so i will not give the transfers name as i will believe it when i see it.

WNYHoops

I have heard the transfer might possibly be Calvin Betts, formerly of UB and Rush-Henrietta. Living in Buffalo you sometimes hear things ... but I would find that very hard to believe unless he had some major problems at UB. Why would a kid on full scholarship to a DI school leave to attend a DIII state school in his hometown?? But if Betts is going to B-Port, that has not only regional, but national implications. With the people they have returning along with Betts, who is a legit DI player, everyone else in the SUNYAC might be playing for 2nd place.
