Thanks Bear,

I remember the 03-04 season and the upset by the Bears over Brockport that year in the finals. And I had that Geneseo team with Fitch as a possibility. He was a great player. Last time I saw him play was the PBA tournament here in Plattsburgh, which his team won. I think that was the last year they had a PBA tournament. Man, he could take over a game.

Mike Deane must have been buckled up good and tight tonite(Thurs.) as his Wagner Seahawks took down league leading Sacred Heart 100-92 in double OT. Wagner now tied with Robert Morris atop the NEC standings with an 11-2 record. Sacred Heart falls to 11-3 with 2 of those losses coming at the hands of the Seahawks. The big showdown for most likely the top seed will be next Sat evening at Robert Morris unfortunately. It's the only meeting of these 2 this year. If you hear of any radio link for that game please pass it along. TV coverage would be too much to hope for.

I think you are right with Gainey in the late 80's and early 90's Coach Birhs(sp) had to have one or two back then. Very interested to know!! Yeah, the Eagles in 2003 were 15-1 should have run the table but didn't. It is difficult to stay focused every night for 16 league contests. These kids have to go to school, too. No tutors to assist them like D1 kids.

Watched the game last night on MSG, a classic. Deane has lost the seatbelt.  He got T'd twice and ejected the first game after the article came out, the second T had everyone (Including Mike) in the place wondering what he'd said.  He's been on his feet the last two games on TV. I think he has a beefy assistant coach charged with tackling him if he goes out of the coaching box.

Must be tough to play for him, such a perfectionist.  Even tougher to ref his games, he sees and knows everything.

Most of the Wagner games have an audio link.  Go to www.wagner.edu, find men's basketball, and click on schedule, and the links should be there.  MSG runs a Monday/Thursday TV schedule for the NEC, rotating among the teams in the metro NY/NJ/CT area.

Thanks, Bear. Lucky you to watch the game last night. I don't get MSG on my dish at home. I do have it on cable at my business and once in a while they have the NEC games on Sat. afternoons. I just may have to "work" late next Sat nite if MSG does the game. If not I'll at least try the audio link you mentioned.

Buff State Media Guide says their last undefeated conference season was 71-72 (Randy Smith).

Actually, the Bears won 31 regular season games in a row (plus two tournaments) from November 85 - February 88.  Over the four years from 84-88, they were 41-2 during the regular season.

Still waiting to hear if anyone went undefeated from 87-00.

Just back from the Plattsburgh-New Paltz game at Memorial Hall in Plattsburgh. A large but not capacity crowd was on hand to watch the Cardinals extend their current winning streak to 13 straight, and remain undefeated in conference play, upping their record to 13-0 in the SUNYAC and 20-2 overall. They also kept their home record unblemished for the season. Both teams came out firing with a fast paced tempo but neither team was able to establish much of an advantage. They ended up tied at the break 36-36. Plattsburgh's defensive intensity just didn't seem to be there in the 1st period and they were a little sloppy taking care of the ball finishing with 10 turnovers to 6 for the Hawks. I'm sure Coach Curle had plenty to say to the guys during the break and it seemed to work as Plattsburgh grabbed a short lead early on and never looked back. New Paltz hung tough however and the Cardinals could only manage a 4 to 6 point lead until the 13 minute mark when they opened it up and grabbed their 1st double digit advantage with 12:32 left. After a quick time out Plattsburgh went on another spurt and with 10:02 left had opened up a 19 point lead. New Paltz never threatened after that. The lead stayed between 19 to 23 pts. with Curle emptying the bench with about 4 mins. to play. 10 Cardinal players got into the scoring column led once again by the big three of Anthony Williams, Travis Gorham, and Khylan Hunt. Williams finished with 30 points on11x26 FG and 6X6 FT. Gorham added 18 pts on 7x10 FG & 4x6 FT and as usual maintained his double -double average hauling down 11 rebounds. Hunt also finished with a double-double scoring 10 pts. and grabbing 10 boards, 6 on the offensive end. Antwane Miller chipped in with 8 pts, 4 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals. New Paltz was paced by Lee Bertram with 16 pts on 6x10 FG and 4x4 FT. Matt Hauser also reached double figures with 11 pts on 4x5 FG & 2x2 FT while grabbing a team high 7 boards.

Miller and Hunt never get the accolades that Travis and Anthony get, but they sure do make a difference in most games.  Antwane is especially good keeping everyone loose.  Always smiling.

Let  me know what special gifts the seniors get during their Senior day ceremony.  Hopefullly they will remember there is a game to play and an undefeated home record to uphold.

Depending upon the weather, I will get going to Cortland (for sure) and maybe drive to SUNYIT the next day.  I'll be sure to report on the atmosphere for each arena as those teams attempt to prevent the 16-0 from happening.  Assuming the Cards beat down the Oneonta team like the Bears did Friday night.

I hope Anthony scores 30 so that Larry Parker's Career Points record is broken at home.  If it happens at Cortland it will remind me of the THUG that elbowed Larry in the face and put an pre-mature end to Larry's College career in the 1977-78 season.

Big first step taken by Potsdam tonight to secure that 6th seed I predicted a few days ago. I think the win over Oneonta was the biggest hurdle to having that happen. The Bears are now currently the 7th seed, moving up 1 spot because of Buff State's loss to Bport. A win by Potsdam on Sat. against New Paltz, coupled with a Red Dragon loss to Plattsburgh, and the Bears will wake up Sunday morning in 6th place. They will then control their own destiny.  I guess you could say it's in the "CARDS" for that to happen.

And the way Oswego played tonight against Morrisville leaves us hope for that 1st round upset and a chance to get to the semi-finals. Go BEARS!!!
