Having been to Amherst for the Elite 8 trip Potsdam took us on a few years back I can honestly say that I believe Memorial is a much better site.  Even though Memorial has  some issues with deferred maintenance it seats more (don't give me capacity numbers as I have been to both), has better parking (can you say off campus a 1/2 mile down the road @ Amherst vs. right across the street within 40 to 100 yards), has concessions (Amherst had none) and is a far better atmosphere to watch a game (the place will be packed and a lot of fun for players and fans).  I still remember the Amherst v UofR game that year... the place was far better, atmosphere wise, during the Potsdam v Fisher game!

Memorial needs an upgrade... that much most agree on... however, it still does the job and the Cardinals know how to treat people during tournament time... just check out the numerous times they have hosted in hockey for both men and women.  Amherst, well, they seem to get by on reputation alone... oh yeah, that and a heck of a good team.  Just my two cents...

Pleased to hear that the Cards have been awarded the sectional.

The Plattsburgh students go on break on Friday but the dorms are open until noon Saturday, so they should have a good crowd for Friday. Amherst students are also on break starting that Friday as is Richard Stockton.  Brandeis has a February break, and  is in session that weekend.

With the Cards Hockey team ranked #3 and already having clinched the automatic bid, Plattsburgh will be a mecca for NCAA sports next weekend.

thebear,

Thank you for that great piece of news. I was hoping that the NCAA would see fit to award the sectional to Plattsburgh but didn't really expect it to happen. We had the limo already set to make the trip to Amherst. Let me know if you are thinking about coming over and I'll get tickets for you.

Plattsburgh St. Women's Hockey team also ranked #1 in the nation. They are playing in the ECAC West final today against Elmira for the automatic bid to the NCAA's.

So..........just to sum up next Saturday:

  • Memorial hosting a Sectional Final (possibly involving Plattsburgh)
  • Stafford hosting an NCAA Men's Hockey Quarterfinal
  • Stafford also hosting an NCAA Women's Hockey Quarterfinal
  • Mass exodus from dorms for spring break
  • All of this happening along a mile or so stretch of a single road (Rugar Street) in Plattsburgh

I say we tell the students they're staying in town another day, close the road, and open the beer tents.

For that matter, have them stay until Monday, we all know the 'burgh's reputation for St. Paddy's Day.

Which is why starting some years ago, Plattsburgh's spring break mysteriously began always always always coinciding with the week where St. Patrick's day fell (things were starting to get just a little out of hand  ;) )

Thanks for your vote of confidence. Plus k.  We wish we had a better facility but we do feel we can put on a good show with what we have. And as you stated, good on-site parking close by, a concession stand and a rockin Memorial Hall.

#7 ranked Plattsburgh St. will certainly have their work cut out for them this weekend if they want to advance to the Final Four. Their sectional is arguabley the toughest of the 4. #5 ranked Brandeis is possibly the best team in the UAA and was ranked higher than any of the 4 teams from that conference that made the NCAA tournament. And if they get by Brandeis they will probably face defending champs #3 Amherst. With only 8 teams from D3Hoops top 25 poll remaining in the field, 3 of them are in the Plattsburgh sectional.

Cardinals need to be clicking on all cylinders to keep that home winning streak alive through this weekend. The Plattsburgh seniors will be on a mission though, as they don't want to end their college playing days with a loss on their home court. Go Cards!!!!!!

Hey,

I'm looking for Plattsburgh's boxscore for their game against King's.  Anyone have any idea where to find it?  If you find it, can you please post it in the d3 national pick em board?  Or send me an IM.

Thanks.
