well it's about time to hope for a 2021 season for the student-athletes and maybe even a trophy awarded at the end of it. I know some games have been played already by some of the Texas teams.

So far it's known that Swarthmore, Gallaudet, Trinity (DC), Wellesley, MIT, Regis and Oberlin will not be participating. It seems highly unlikely that any of the NESCAC programs will compete. Should be more announcements in this regard coming in the next few weeks.

the entire CUNYAC is out for the year. Baruch, Brooklyn, Hunter, John Jay, Lehman and York (NY) as well as non-softball institutions CCNY and Medgar Evers.

Yet, here in Texas, my daughter played over 100 games of select softball through the Summer and Fall. Played Fall-ball for her high school as well. Has been in school (at a 4,000+ student H.S.), in person since August... and is now beginning the regular H.S. softball season. I'm not saying it's right. In fact, sometimes I think I live in a Bizarro world/state of politicized science deniers, but at least I was able to watch a lot of ball the last 12 months with neither of us getting sick. It's a shame that some colleges have already cancelled their 2021 season. We played some weekends with 30-40 teams attending. I know of only a handful of teams which would drop from tourneys if they had one player test positive during the week, but there were very few players who got Covid. Seems like, with a little effort, some conference-only games could have taken place this year in DIII.

#16 MSOE got a double-header sweep over #18 Carthage 7-6 and 2-0.

1st Game (8 innings)
MSOE's Trewyn singled in the winning run. Wiederholt got the win.

2nd Game:
Trewyn again came through by knocking in the only runs of the game in the 1st inning.
Pondo tossed a 4-hit complete game shut-out.

Nice to watch some softball games between Amherst and Wes. recently. The Nescac is playing a limited number of games this Spring.

MSOE, CUW, Marian and Lakeland have already clinched playoff spots in the NACC North. MSOE squad lost to CUW a couple of times. Heard CUW and Aurora are back in the Top 25 Poll.

In out-of NACC news:

NCAC: Hiram has clinched a spot in the conference tournament.

SAA: #6 ranked BSC took the SAA Tournament Title

ODAC and SCAC: Conference Tournaments are scheduled to take place this weekend.

USA South: Divisional Tournament is scheduled for this weekend.

Top 25 Final: ARV Coe 4, Central-IA 0.
Coe-- Bree Mangelson belted a 2-run HR to left field in the 7th to widen the margin.

Best scoring threat Central IA had was in the 5th inning (lead-off double, steal of third,) but the runner got caught in a run-down and was tagged out, and wouldn't you know, the next batter singled with the bases empty.

W - Thurow, L - Huisman

Kohawks strengthen their position at the top of the ARC standings, Central-IA remains in 3rd place.

Top 25 Final: Game 1 #9 Moravian 4, Drew 1
Greyhounds put up a 3-spot in the bottom of the 4th, and it basically held up for the win. Kane -- 2 RBI triple.

W -- Hummel (9-0) L -- Comeau (6-5)

Updates:

#13 Salisbury and #14 CNU are the top 2 seeds for the C2C Conference Tournament.

In the NACC South, ARV Aurora and Benedictine have clinched the top 2 spots, Rockford, CUC and Dominican are in contention for the last 2 berths.

Texas Lutheran climbs back into the #1 spot in the Top 25 poll, right before the SCAC Tournament.

ODAC: VA Wes slips one spot to #2 in the poll, Randolph Macon moves to #16.

ODAC conference tournament format:

Each of the top-four seeds will host best-of three series to start the tournament on Saturday and Sunday, May 1-2. The event will continue with two more series on Wednesday and Thursday, May 5-6. The champion will be determined on May 8-9 with the final series at the highest remaining seed.

Has anyone ever seen a format like this? I guess it gives everyone a few more games.

Rain at SCAC conference tournament so this is what they came up with:

After meeting with administrators and the tournament coaches, with the goal of determining a champion on the field, the surviving teams – No. 1 Texas Lutheran, No. 2 Schreiner, No. 3 Trinity and No. 5 Centenary – will compete for the conference title.

Texas Lutheran has been advanced to Monday's championship, with the remaining three teams battling in a single elimination format for the right to face the Bulldogs for the title. The last standing team between Schreiner, Trinity and Centenary will have to beat Texas Lutheran twice on Monday to be crowned champions. TLU needs just one win on Monday to retain its SCAC title and receive the conference's AQ bid into the NCAA Div. III Softball Championship.
