Pre-game scoop on MSJ/DePauw:

MSJ starter:  Sarah Miller (16-3) 2.60 ERA going in- Tucker (7 HR) and Miller (5 HR) produced most of the long-ball power (.340 team batting avg. (.978 fielding pct.)

DePauw starter:  Cami Henry (18-0)  ERA 0.82 going in- Timberman, Bratcher and Price 4 HRs each (.327 team batting avg) (975 fielding pct.).

Update--

Mt. St. Joseph 1, DePauw 0 after 1 1/2 innings.

The run came on a double followed by a sacrifice bunt and an RBI sacrifice fly.

WLCALUM83

That RBI came from a hitter whose avg was .320 going in, we'll see how long the lead holds, DePauw batters being very patient with Miller's pitching so far.

Update--

DePauw 2, Mt. St. Joseph 1  Bottom 4th 1 out.

Both DePauw runs scored as a result of a throwing error (e5)-- currently, these two have been counted as earned runs, but any further runs scored in the inning are unearned.

Further update:  DePauw 3, Mt. St. Joseph 1  RBI single drives in the third run.  Bottom 4th 2 out.

WLCALUM83

For MSJ, the frustrating thing is, DePauw's leadoff batter, down 0-2, worked the count full and then came up with the first hit that started it all. (using the patience I referred to earlier.)

Update--

DePauw 3, Mt. St. Joseph 1 after 5 1/2 innings.

Mt. St. Joseph down to their final 3 outs when we get to the top of the 7th.

Belhaven/Millikin match-up scoop:

My guess is that Belhaven will start Kennedy Carruth (20-3) ERA 0.99 going in, against the Big Blue's Aly Armstrong (19-4) ERA 1.79 going in.

Belhaven Offense:  Taggart, Gordon, Base (6 HR each) and Blackwell (4 HR) put up the strongest power numbers for them. 6 Belhaven starters hit .308 or better during the season and in the conference tournament. Carruth helped her own pitching cause, knocking in 29 runs. Defense:  Fielding percentage - (.944)

Millikin Offense:  Foreman and Holland (3 HR each) showed the strongest hitting power for the Blue. Entire team batting avg. 306. Big Blue Team Pitching ERA 1.41  Fielding Percentage - (.958).

Millikin pitcher Aly Armstrong already with 6 K's on 2 innings of work today.

Millikin 0, Belhaven 0 after 1 1/2 innings.

WLCALUM83

Belhaven not showing any rust, having the Blazer conference tournament end sooner than a whole bunch of others,

Top of 3rd with 1 out--

Belhaven has struck first and is now leading 1-0 over Millikin.

The run came on a triple by Trahan and an RBI single by Taggard with nobody out.

Belhaven now has the bases loaded with still 1 out.

Further update-- McNeer walks with the bases loaded; Millikin pitcher Aly Armstrong walks in the second run.

Belhaven 2, Miilikin 0 still 1 out.

Further update-- Belhaven 2, Millikin 0 after 2 1/2 innings as Millikin pitcher Aly Armstrong got the third out by getting her 7th K of the game.

WLCALUM83

Trahan, not part of Belhaven's top 6 in the .300 or above hitting club, but still does her fair share of damage (.294 batting average going in).

Bottom of 7th 2 out

Tennison hits a solo home run shot to make it Belhaven 2, Millikin 1.

Next, Holland doubles, and she represents the tying run on second.

A groundout ended the ballgame.
