Hiram has just eliminated DePauw, 5-4 on a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the 7th inning. Terriers need 2 wins over Berry to advance. (One less '21 returnee to the '22 Finals). At least half the field for the '22 Finals will be different teams

Third team in? VA Wes, who knocked off Messiah 9-2. Emily Seale got the win, and the Marlin offense had 13 hits on the day, including 3 doubles and a home run.

Millikin 8, Alma 1 Final.
CNU 3, Messiah 0. Final.
Tufts 3, Rowan 2, 8 innings (sac fly with bases loaded)
Trine 6, North Central-IL 0
Salisbury over Endicott
Wartburg 6, St. Benedict-MN 5
WPI 6, Arcadia 2
MSJ knocked off Babson (Babson, mounting a last at-bat threat, had a runner thrown out on the bases to end the game).

MIT 5, Susquehanna 1, Susquehanna eliminated.
Susquehanna 6, Farmingdale St. 2 (Skyline Conference squad out, but had the bases loaded with 2 out in the 7th, before an infield out was recorded to end the threat.)

Arcadia 4, J&W-RI 2, J&W-RI eliminated. Arcadia needs 2 wins over WPI to advance.
ECSU has forced a deciding game with Kean to take that bracket.
Randolph-Macon 3, MIT 1.

Case 6, Concordia-WI 4 8 innings This forces a deciding game.
WPI 4, Arcadia 1, 5th inning.
Berry 6, Hiram 1 (Terriers eliminated, but at least they kept DePauw from returning to the finals).

Wash-MO and Bethel-MN are going into the top of the 13th inning tied at 3. I'm starting to wonder what the longest extra-inning playoff game was in D3 softball history?

Final:  Bethel-MN 4, Wash-MO 3 15 innings. This sets up a deciding game for the regional.
Deciding final:  Bethel-MN 6, Wash-MO 5. Royals' Autumn Earney knocked in the winning run with a single to right in their last at bat. Bethel-MN advances.

either Little East or NJAC.                      to Super Regionals.

Seeds that have advanced (with one still to be determined)
#1  8
#2  4
#3  1
#4  2

So NCAA will get at least 50% of the number 1 seeds correct.  Hard to tell how the NFCA did since you had high seeds pitted against each other.  If you look at the top 16 less 2 who did not make the field, NFCA got  7 of the 14 available to advance.

Regional observations:
Berry made a statement to the NCAA.  Ranked #10 by the NFCA but seeded #4 in DePauw regional (traveled almost 500 miles) Berry goes in and run ruled opponents in first 2 games.  Won the championship game 6-1.

TLU gets the cakewalk it appeared they would get; 2 run rule wins and a 5-0 shutout.  Plus they got to play late in the evening as opposed to most other regionals playing games at noon.

NCAA got VWU at least to SR.  Still can't figure out any logic for them going to any regional other than CNU. Maybe being last year's National Champion helps.

ODAC get 2 of their 3 teams to SR.

Ha!  CWRU President helped called a game this weekend.   We keep hearing about job openings and need for managers to fill in :)

ECSU mercies Kean 8-0 to claim the final spot in super regionals.

What a weekend for Region 3. 0 at large bids yet again, and its 4 Pool A teams combined to go 1-8. Have never seen New York D3 softball in such shambles. A lot of programs need to get better at recruiting, it would seem.

My daughter knows some players on the Bethel team so we paid attention to that series vs. Washington U in the regional finals. Yesterday's performance by Kayla Simacek was nothing short of amazing. 22 consecutive innings in one day; a 15 inning marathon followed by the 7 inning clinching game. I believe she was in the circle for every pitch of the regional. It has to be one of the best individual efforts in college sports this year.

Expected '22 Super-Regional Pitching Match-Ups:

CNU's Jamie Martin (18-1, 0.84 ERA) vs. VA Wesleyan's Emily Seale (22-4. 1.31). VA Wes has more pitching depth.
TLU's A Strother (23-0) or S Ouellette (10-3) could get the call, both have ERAs below 1.00: Belhaven will probably go with Kennedy Carruth (26-3, 1.12 ERA)..
ECSU/Randolph-Macon:  ODAC squad, likely Gracie Ellis(22-5, 1.23 ERA); ECSU: Alexis Michon (21-1 1.03 ERA 175 SO's or Morgan Bolduk (12-2 0.74 ERA).
Salisbury/MSJ:  Salisbury, either Savannah Sheats (16-2, 1.19) or Lindsey Windsor (16-1, 0.93) MSJ:  Either Kamryn McCool (19-5, 1.32 ERA, 177 SO's) or Casey Kemp (15-5, 1.82):
Berry/Bethel-MN:  Vikings could go with any one of their pitchers (all have started at least 5 games): It'll probably be either Blair Hall (8-2, 1.77 ERA) or Hannah Gore (15-1, 0.95 ERA); Bethel-MN, Kayla Simacek (35-3, 0.99)
Trine/Case:  Thunder--Adrienne Rosey (13-7, 1.07) and Anna Koeppl (8-3, 2.54) have started most of their games. Case:  Lexi Miskey (16-4, 1.22) or Kylie Hosey (14-6, 2.17)--X factor--Case comes into this thing with the least to lose. Case, for the most part, wasn't expected to get this far, but made a great comeback to knock ranked Concordia-WI out to get to this point.
Wartburg/Millikin. Knights more likely, Ashley Nelson (13-4, 2.72); Millikin, Aly Armstrong (16-5, 1.93) or Addison Sargent (16-2, 0.95.)
Tufts/WPI:  Jumbos either Sophie DiCocco (17-5, 0.99) or Sky Johnson (16-4, 1.75); WPI:  Katie Martin (23-5, 1.71 ERA)  X-factor:  WPI's in a similar situation as Case-WPI wasn't expected to get this far.

Other:  Wartburg (in early innings) Berry, VA Wes and TLU all scored runs in bunches in their respective regionals. CNU's Kaitlyn Hasty has hit 18 HR's on the season. She leads all of D3 in that stat so far this season. Salisbury's Abby Mace has 16 HR's on the year.

All but 2 of the early games had finals in which teams lost by either 1 or 2 runs and 2 of those closer games went into extra innings.

Notables:  Berry starting pitcher Blair Hall helped her own cause by belting a 9th inning 2-run HR.
Millikin put up a 6th inning 6-spot to take control of a back-and-forth game over Wartburg.
ECSU's Cassie Woods' RBI single in the 8th put the Warriors 1 up on Randolph-Macon
Salisbury/MSJ was a real pitcher's duel (only 6 hits combined allowed for the entire game.
Salisbury run came in on a 2nd inning RBI double by Lauren Meyers.
Trine/Case:  Pitcher's duel #2:  Again, lone Thunder run scored in 2nd inning on an infield out. 5
                                             combined hits allowed all game.
CNU/VA Wes:  CNU winning run scored on an error in the 7th inning, enabling Jamie Martin to
get the win over Emily Seale.
Tufts/WPI was the only early rout. Sophie DiCocco tossed a 2-hit complete game, and the
Jumbos broke this one open with a 7-run 6th inning.

                TLU/Belhaven:  later.

UPDATE:  TLU 2, Belhaven 1 8 innings (Bulldogs' Casey Martin drove in the winning run with a
                                     walk-off single.

For the most part, the on-paper favorites won, but most of the games were very tight.

The Umpire crew at the Willimantic Super Regional (Randolph Macon vs ECSU), are stone blind, taking a home run that hit the foul pole from ECSU!!  A bunch of other call missed as well!  Very sad!!

WLCALUM83

Final:  ECSU 4, Randolph-Macon 0. Warriors add a bit more to their already loaded softball trophy case-with 1 more level to clear yet--
"When you come to the fork in the road, take it."

ECSU punches their ticket to Salem Va  ECSU 4, RMU 0
Alexis Michon  well deserved MVP.  Morgan Bolduk sadly was injured in the NCAA regional and looks like she is out for the Softball College World Series. She is a senior and one of the best pitchers in D-III!!!

Trine, Salisbury, Berry and CNU are also in the D3 Softball Finals:

Trine 6, CWRU 2 (All Thunder runs scored in 4th-7th inning at bats. Enna Beyer, 1 HR 3 RBI's Ellie Trine 1 walk, 1 run scored).

Salisbury 7, Mt. St. Joseph 0 (A 4th inning 7-spot broke this one open. Lindsey Windsor tosses a 4 hit CG shutout.

Berry 3, Bethel-MN 1 (Anna Jackson 2-run HR, Riley Jackson sac fly provided all the offense Berry needed.)

CNU 5, VA Wesleyan 2 (Captains used a 9th inning 4 spot to knock the '21 champs out of this thing; Kate Alger gets the win.)

Millikin/Wartburg just underway. Tufts/WPI and TLU/Belhaven later.
