ECSU 8 Millikin 1 (Warrior offense put up a late 4-spot to gain distance and eliminate Millikin)

CNU 6, Berry 2 (Captains come from behind, scoring 5 runs in their last 2 at-bats to get the win.

Final:  Trine 9, Salisbury 1 5 innings.

About midway through the game, a Salisbury runner who appeared to have over-slid 2nd base on a stealing attempt was called out. A challenge was made to the call. It looked as if the runners' left hand may have been off the base when she was tagged, but was the hand still touching the bag, or next to the bag? The challenge attempt failed. The Sea Gulls next 2 batters reached base, but Salisbury was kept off the scoreboard that at bat. That proved to be big, because the Thunder later got a grand-slam HR from Amanda Prather that broke the game open. Adrienne Rosey gets the win that puts Salisbury on the brink of elimination.

Ashlyn Strother is getting the start for the Bulldogs.

Savanna Sheats is starting for Salisbury.

ECSU defensive lapses allows Berry a 6-4 victory to eliminate the Warriors!
Congrats to TLU, Barry, CNU, and Trine for getting into the final 4!

TLU and CNU are tied at 3 going into extras-

Bulldog hitters were hitting some deep balls off Martin, so Martin was pulled and Alger was put in with a Captain 3-1 lead, and wouldn't you know the Bulldogs hit a couple of alley balls and a single or 2 to tie this thriller up. Sydney Ouellete is off the hook. Bulldogs have White on in relief.

Developing.

CNU's Brooke Greaver has just belted a 9th-inning walk-off solo HR to eliminate TLU, 4-3!

Looks like it's a Trine/CNU Final series. Trine eliminated Berry 5-0.

CNU's Kaitlyn Hasty has just hit a grand-slam to put the Captains up 6-2 on Trine in the bottom of the 5th inning--

After Martin went the first 5, Alger is pitching for CNU in the 6th--

Champ Series Game 1 Final:

CNU 6, Trine 3 (Captains' starter Martin helped her own cause by decoying Trine into getting a runner thrown out at the plate early. No surprise on the Hasty grand slam either --she led all of D3 softball in home runs for the season.)

Champ Series Game 2 Final:

#1 CNU 3, #20 Trine 0 Congrats to the Captains!

Trine at #20 could make a case for being a mild underdog going into the Finals, but the Thunder, too, made a statement, knocking off the #3, #4 and #10 squads just to get to this point. No disgrace for Trine.

Yes what a great run it was for the Thunder.  Just had no answer offensively against Martin today.  This team is fairly young, we lose solid contributors Murdock in rf, Swartout at 1b and spot starter Daugherty at dp.  Everyone else of note is coming back.  Pitching really excelled for Trine the second half of the season.  Even though Trine doesn't get any national individual accolades like most of the other teams in the final 8, they showed that they can play with anyone.  Coach Danklefsen always does a nice job recruiting and he has another good class coming in next year.  We'll be back.  :)

CNU85

That was fun to watch - from home on my ipad. My plan was to drive the 4hrs to Salem and watch Tuesday's fun, but I was under the weather. It was still awesome to watch from my couch as CNU brings home yet another Championship trophy this academic year!

It will be interesting to see what Coach Parr has on the bench to replace all those seniors. And also of the 5 seniors with eligibility left, how many will return to seek a masters degree?

Congrats to the Captains! What a year!
