Anyone have an idea why NCAA does not pick 3 more teams for tournment. They have one 6 team  and one 7 team regional. I know in the 7 team one the bracket gets very confusing. The 6 team is also goofy. Just pick 3 more teams.

I agree.  I mean, it's not like the basketball tournament where it's incredibly easy to only select 60 teams because you can give 4 teams a bye on each corner of the bracket.  In softball, the 6 team field is weird and the 7 team regional is just goofy.  I know the majority of D-3 schools are East of the Mississippi River, but really, it can't seem that difficult to fit 3 more teams in the field.

Keene state vs. St. Joes.  Was supposed to start at 12 noon, but due to weather in the area, not starting until 5 and will end this rain-shortened session at Amherst.
St. Joes is the 5 seed coming in with a record of 33-7 winners of the GNAC conference.  Keene state is the 4 seed coming in with a record of 25-10-1.  Keene finished tied for 2nd in the LEC with RIC; Keene made it to championship Saturday of the LEC tournament before losing to Western to begin that day, their first loss to the Colonials in 4 games this year.  Keene began that tournament by defeating the Colonials.  Maddie Kluna starts for the Monks, Keene's ace Emily Albin steps in the circle.  Keene is the home team and will get last ups if need be.
St. Joes 0 Keene 0 top 1.  Game should be starting in a few minutes.
St. Joes 2 Keene 0 top 3.  After each team stranded 1st and 2nd in the 1st and 2nd with no one out in the 2nd (St. Joes started with a lead off double, Keene got a walk and wildpitch to get her to 2nd), St. Joes gets the first run.  Danyelle Shufelt walked, and after a sac bunt and a wild pitch Emily Leverone hit a 2 run homer.
St. Joes 2 Keene 2 top 4.  Jessica Fiorenza scored on a Monk's error, and Keene tied the game on a Nicole DuPuis sac fly which scored Haley Chandler.
St. Joes 2 Keene 4 bot 5.  Nicole DuPuis home run scores Sara Stocklinski
Final: Keene 4 St. Joes 2.  St. Joes goes onto face Cortland, St. Joes faces keuka in the first elimination game Friday.

Last IL Wes regional final:

Linfield 3, Benedictine 0

Irony of this one is, the at bat power-squad Linfield got its runs in, wouldn't you know, what started the action? A bunt single-- of all things--with 2 out. (Talk about giving a team a taste of its' own medicine--).

It got explained to me yesterday at the Alma regional (which I'm predicting either Alma over Chicago, Chicago over Alma, or the same scenario with ONU. Trine did not look good one bit, while Chicago did) and it has to do with the percent of dIII schools that sponsor softball.  That's the same reason men's and women's LAX have different number of teams in the field.  It all has to do with the number of schools.  There's a big mathmatical formula to determine it I guess.

Not disagreeing with you but that just seems odd.  Just did a quick look on the NFCA website and there are approximately 425 D3 schools listed there.  I counted quickly so probably not accurate.  I then looked at the NCAA RPI list for the total number of D1 schools; total of 289.
Oh well, I guess it just is what it is.  But really 3 more teams would make more sense to me.

Take on IL Wes results:  Benedictine outhit Carthage today, just couldn't string enough hits together at the right time -- how much longer can St. Norbert hang around?

Pella regional:  Wasn't expecting Central to lose its' opener.

(Saturday's play in Tyler will be delayed until 1:00 pm due to rain -- downpour began right after the last game ended).

Like in every other Division III sport, there's one NCAA Tournament spot for every 6.5 teams that sponsor the sport.

Tournaments are then capped at 64 (such as women's basketball is) and 32 (football).
