Addition to the original post about the Winners and Losers in the bracket:

Winners:
Salisbury - Finishes runner up in their conference but gets sent to other side of the bracket away from Virginia Wesleyan.

Losers:
Christopher Newport - wins their conference tournament over Salisbury so their reward is you get to host against #1 overall Virginia Wesleyan.  They beat Salisbury who gets sent off to a weaker regional.  Go figure.

IWU hosted a regional, and swept it 3-0.  Ally Wiegand (only a sophomore) was MOP with two complete game shutouts and the save today.  They're in the super-regional for the third straight year - the opponent will be the winner of the UWW regional, which won't finalize until tomorrow due to rain.

And the winner of the UWW regional is ... UWW! :o

The super-regional is in Bloomington.  Just under 4 weeks ago we faced UWW in Bloomington: the result was a win and a tie (second game was declared a 2-2 tie after 8 rain-soaked innings and getting worse).  Obviously, I'm not claiming anything, but I AM cautiously optimistic.

IMHO, both Ally Wiegand (see above) and Sam Berghoff (an absurd 1.434 OPS) are All-Americans.  BTW, Sam is also a sophomore, as is #2 pitcher, Brea Walker.  Even if we don't win it all this year, watch out for 2019 and 2020! ;D

NCAA gets 10 of the 16 brackets correct (#1 seeds winning).  NFCA gets 7 of their top 10 winning a regional.  They should have had 2 more had the NCAA not put more than 1 top 10 team in a regional (TLU and George Fox).  The flops were #1 seeds and hosts Emory and TCNJ who both didn't even reach the championship finals of their regionals.  Randolph Macon also got a #1 seed and was able to move away from conference foe VWU in a regional but still couldn't win getting double dipped by Rowan on Monday.

NCAA also got what they wanted; 7 of the 8 super regionals pit teams from the same region playing each other (saving that travel $$).

On a side note, I remember reading in the NCAA softball committee minutes that they were trying to restrict travel for softball teams at the regional level to under 400 miles.  Looked at the baseball D3 selection yesterday and you got teams traveling all over the country.  No restriction for those guys.

Mr. Ypsi

At the super-regional in Bloomington (IL), Ally Wiegand is working her magic - a one-hit shutout thru 6.  But she may have met her match, as UWW's Bella Matthias ALSO has a one-hit shutout thru 6!  Who's gonna break first? ;)

And the answer is, alas, Ally Wiegand.  She yielded a double and two singles, giving up one run.  IWU certainly didn't surrender, and got two singles with still no outs off Matthias, but she then struck out the next three batters.  Congratulations to Matthias and UWW, but 'tomorrow IS another day'!

CWRU leads Hope College 1-0 in the Super Regional.

If Case can hold on and win, then the Spartans will advance to their first NCAA Division III Women's College World Series.

GO SPARTANS!!!

Mr. Ypsi

IWU hit back=to=back solo homers in the 6th, then blew it wide open in the 7th with a bases loaded walk and a grand slam, to even the series with a 7-0 victory.  In both 2016 and 2017 IWU reached the super regional, lost the Friday game, then swept the Saturday DH to advance - here's hoping that history again repeats! ;D

7 of the 8 Super Regionals are going to a winner-take-all 3rd game...and the 8th hasn't started yet (Moravian-Rowan) due to rain!!

Just like yesterday, Ally Wiegand had a one-hit shutout thru 6; unlike yesterday, she kept the shutout (and one hitter) in the 7th.  Also unlike yesterday, Bella Matthias did NOT have a shutout.  Final is IWU 3, UWW 0.

The Titans are in the World Series for the third straight year! ;D  (I don't really LIKE being on the brink of elimination, but with the streak they've got going I might be scared if they ever WIN the Friday game of a super regional! :o)

Now THAT is some competitive balance!  I wish women's basketball could get more competitive.

what a play to end the Pittsford Super Regional...with Ithaca leading St. John Fisher 7-4, 2 out bases loaded bottom 7, SJF slapper floats a 60 degree lob wedge into short center field, 3 Bombers come together; SS Hannah Anderson dives over her 2B and CF and somehow holds on for the final out! IC had to hold their celebration for a second to make sure she hadn't broken a leg or something.

Ithaca returns to the WCWS for the first time since 2010 and 11th time in program history.

Actually, they only finished up game two this morning.  Game 2 was stopped in the bottom the 7th inning yesterday due to rain, tied at 6-6. This morning, just played long enough to complete the bottom of the 7th and it only took one more inning before VWU finished up with the 7-6 win to earn the berth to Oklahoma City.

my mistake about VWU. The field for OKC is now set with 6 of the 8 SR's having gone the distance, only VWU and Rowan were sweepers.

They are re-seeding the field for the World Series, I believe this is the first year they have done this. If they were to go by overall winning percentage, the opening matchups would be:

1) Virginia Wesleyan vs. 8) Ithaca
4) Case Western Reserve vs. 5) MIT
2) UT Tyler vs. 7) Illinois Wesleyan
3) Luther vs. 6) Rowan

Here is the official reseeding:

Final Eight Seed List
1. Va. Wesleyan
2. Texas-Tyler
3. Rowan
4. MIT
5. Luther
6. Ill. Wesleyan
7. CWRU
8. Ithaca

NCAA got what they wanted; one team from each region.  Anyone know their rational for the rankings?  Its not by regional seeding:

1. Va. Wesleyan #1 Atlantic
2. Texas-Tyler  #2 West
3. Rowan #2 East
4. MIT #1 New England
5. Luther #4 Midwest
6. Ill. Wesleyan #1 Great Lakes
7. CWRU #5 Central
8. Ithaca #2 Northeast
