Brandeis responded today with a 2 hitter against Farmingdale State and a 3 hitter against Penn State Berks.  Scottie Todd got the shutout win in game 1 and Sydney Goldman gets the shutout in game 2.

Finals were Brandeis 8, Farmingdale State 0 in 6 innings, and Brandeis 2, Penn State Berks 0.

Brandeis plays Ithaca tomorrow.  Ithaca needs 1 win to advance to next weekend, while Brandeis needs 2 more wins.  By getting to Sunday, Brandeis will at least finish in the same position that they finished in the 2010 regionals.  (In 2010, there were no super-regionals; the winners of the 7 or 8 team regionals went to the D3 World Series in 2010.)

paired regionals:

Virginia Wesleyan - Manhattanville, Lynchburg, Scranton
Emory - Piedmont, Transylvania, Emory & Henry

DePauw - Trine, Maryville, Saint Vincent
Thomas More - Geneseo, Dickinson, Wilson

East Texas Baptist - Birmingham-Southern, Texas Lutheran
Claremont-Mudd-Scripps - Linfield, Whittier (Linfield is #1 seed but CMS hosting to save NCAA money)

Ithaca - Brandeis, Penn State Berks, Farmingdale State
Cortland - St. John Fisher, Williams, Framingham State (Williams #1 seed but not hosting because...reasons?)

TCNJ - Arcadia, Randolph-Macon, Mount Aloysius
Kean - Endicott, Christopher Newport, Staten Island (CNU treated as non-hosting #1 seed)

Illinois Wesleyan - Calvin, MSOE, Otterbein
UW-Whitewater - Coe, Carthage, Eureka

St. Thomas - UWEC, Wartburg, Northwestern (Minn.)
Central - Saint Benedict, UW-Lacrosse, Lake Forest

MIT - Rowan, Eastern Nazarene, Husson
Tufts - WPI, Eastern Connecticut, Saint Joseph (Conn.)

Piedmont is hosting what I thought was the Emory regional, my mistake. Rain, lightning and a long way to finish. Tarp on the field for the first elimination game (4-4 bottom 10). Might even go to Monday, I just hope it finishes at all. Paired - Virginia Wesleyan two tries to beat Lynchburg once.

Trine two tries to beat DePauw once; Thomas More two tries to beat Geneseo once.

Texas regional was a washout today (no surprise with what they've been dealing with). 2 or 3 games remaining. Winner gets Linfield, the California regional champs.

Ithaca two tries to beat Brandeis once; Williams two tries to beat Cortland once.

TCNJ gets double shut out at home. Eesh. Randolph-Macon two tries to beat Arcadia once. Paired - CNU two tries to beat Kean once.

Illinois Wesleyan back to supers. They will face either CCIW rival Carthage or UW-Whitewater. Carthage two tries to beat UWW once.

St. Thomas a regional champ at home. Lake Forest two tries to beat UW-Lacrosse once (at Central) to meet UST next weekend.

Rowan two tries to win once at MIT; Eastern Connecticut two tries to win once at Tufts.

As of now--

Rainout criteria for 3 team Marshall, TX regional--

2 games have been completed, so #2 seed Texas Lutheran currently has rainout advantage as highest remaining undefeated seed.

Demorest, GA regional--

4 games have been completed-- Transylvania won 5-4 over Emory & Henry in 12 innings.  #1 seed Emory v #2 seed Transylvania at 3 PM Eastern today in an elimination game. (Game 5) Winner of that game will then need to beat Piedmont twice to advance.  Winner take all game 7 would be played on Monday if necessary.

#3 seed Piedmont currently has rainout advantage as highest remaining undefeated team. If Piedmont loses today and Monday is rained out, then winner of game 6 would advance as highest remaining seed since there would be a head to head split.

A lot of regionals around the country are being delayed right now due to rain.

Most of these regionals have played 5 games already, which means that if these regionals get rained out today and tomorrow, then the winners of these regionals will be the highest remaining undefeated seed.

Teams with the rainout advantage right now -- the following teams would advance of all the regionals got rained out today and tomorrow --

Ithaca, Williams, Rowan, Eastern Connecticut, Trine, Thomas More, Texas Lutheran, Virginia Wesleyan, Piedmont, Randolph-Macon, Christopher Newport, Carthage, Lake Forest

Lynchburg just beat Virginia Wesleyan in their first game 7-4, so they play again in a winner-take-all match.  That match-up to come plus Depauw v Trine; Thomas More v Genesea are the only regions in play at the moment.

Depauw and Trine tied at 0 top of 3rd inning
Geneseo up 1-0 with Thomas More, bottom of 3rd.

Caz Bombers

ECSU-Tufts PPD to tomorrow; RMC-Arcadia PPD to tomorrow

Geneseo-Thomas More rain delay; CNU-Kean will try to play at 7 pm but even that might not happen.

both Ithaca and Cortland sites postponed until tomorrow morning

Caz Bombers

Trine advances to supers to face either Thomas More or Geneseo

the reigning champ VWU Marlins are on the ropes, down 1-0 to Lynchburg in the 3rd.

TheChucker

Texas Lutheran takes two from ETBU in a little bit of an upset. Down to the elimination game for Birmingham Southern. That is a killer regional...almost like a three-team super regional.

we will have a new national champion as Lynchburg rallies past Virginia Wesleyan.

Geneseo beat Thomas More twice to advance to next weekend's super regional against Trine.

Texas Lutheran up 4-0 in the 3rd against B-SC; looks like it'll be TLU-Linfield next weekend.

EDIT: welp, the Panthers just scored 4 in the 3rd to tie the game. EDIT AGAIN: but TLU pulled ahead and won anyway.

Emory just eliminated Transylvania in 11 innings to reach the regional final against Piedmont. Winner gets Lynchburg.

UW-La Crosse beats Lake Forest twice to advance. Eagles probably at St. Thomas.

Christopher Newport at Kean looking like 8 pm start under the lights in Union, NJ. EDIT: CNU wins 6-4, will face R-MC or Arcadia.

Carthage beats UWW; they will face IWU next weekend.

Emory defeated Piedmont, 5-4, last night to set up a winner take all game today.

Here are the 6 teams with rainout advantage-- they would advance to super-regionals if today's games in each regional are rained out.  Except for the Demorest, GA regional, each team listed is the highest remaining unbeaten seed.

Cambridge, MA-- Rowan
Medford MA-- Eastern Connecticut State
Ithaca NY-- Ithaca
Cortland NY-- Williams
Ewing NJ-- Randolph-Macon
Demorest GA-- Emory (Head to head split with Piedmont in regional, Emory is #1 seed)

TLU only had to defeat ETBU one time in the goofy 3 team regional format.  Since ETBU also lost to BSU, ETBU had 2 loses and were eliminated.

VWU got in the situation the West teams always get in, playing the same conference team over and over.  They played Lynchburg 6 times during the year; won 4 but lost the last one which determines who advances.  You would never see conference opponents in the same bracket in D1 but then again, D1 plays in the College World Series while D2 and D3 only have a Championship tournament.
