ETBU wins 10-2 over ENC.

Final in game 1 of the Marshall, TX regional.  I got it, justafan12.  Not surprised by this result.  Final in 5 innings on the 8 run rule, BTW, which was also what I would have expected.

Update from Bangor, Maine--

Babson 1, Tufts 0 after 3 innings.

Babson got their run on 1 hit and 1 Tufts fielding error.  The Babson run is not charged to Haghdan as an earned run.

2nd out in the bottom of the 4th just came on a spectacular diving catch in the outfield by Tufts's Michelle Adelman.  Still Babson 1, Tufts 0.

Update from Bangor, Maine--

Babson 1, Tufts 0 after 5 1/2 innings in a pitcher's duel.  The run is an unearned run, as each team has a fielding error.

So far, Brooke Stock of Babson has pitched a 4 hit shutout through 6 innings.

Tufts will be down to their final 3 outs when we get to the top of the 7th.

Top of the 7th-- 2 out from Bangor, Maine--

Tie game!  And the umpire is a buzzkill-- warning Tufts for excessive celebration.

RBI single from Michelle Adelman scores Regan Coleman.  Coleman started the inning with a single, and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.

Update-- Another RBI single from Josie Steinberg scores Michelle Adelman.

Tufts 2, Babson 1 Top 7th 2 out and Babson will be down to their final 3 outs in the bottom of the 7th.

Babson pitcher Brooke Stock charged with 2 earned runs in the 7th.

Tufts 2, Babson 1 after 6 1/2 innings in a reversal of fortune.

Final in game 2 from Bangor, Maine--

Tufts 2, Babson 1  Both Tufts runs came in the 7th inning.

Tufts scored 2 runs on 8 hits and 1 Babson error-- Babson scored 1 run on 4 hits and 1 Tufts error.

Brooke Stock takes her first loss of the year-- giving up 2 earned runs.  Those were her 3rd and 4th earned runs given up this season, and her ERA goes up to 0.45 as a result of the loss.

Kristina Haghdan moves her record to 7-3, giving up no earned runs, as the Babson run came as a direct result of the Tufts fielding error.

Babson will now play Endicott in an elimination game (Game 4) later today.

Tufts faces the winner of Brandeis vs Eastern Connecticut in Game 6 (the second game of the day on Saturday).

Husson faces the loser of Brandeis vs Eastern Connecticut in Game 5 (the first game of the day on Saturday.)

Brandeis vs Eastern Connecticut coming up-- First pitch at 3:30 PM Eastern.

Eastern Connecticut is going to take the gamble and hope it pays off with their choice of starting pitcher.  Of course, coach Diana Pepin would not take that gamble if she didn't think that Alyssa Vilchez would be ready for this spot.

Eastern Connecticut's starting pitcher is Alyssa Vilchez, who pitched a 4 hit shutout in game 2 of the Little East Championship Series over Southern Maine last weekend.

Naturally, Brandeis goes with Sydney Goldman to start.

Vilchez has an ERA of 0.70-- 1 earned run in 10 innings pitched all season.  It is just her 4th appearance of the season, and her 2nd start.

Goldman has an ERA of 0.64-- 4 earned runs in 44 innings pitched all season.

Major difference today vs the first time Brandeis vs Eastern Connecticut ever played--

Today, Sydney Goldman got out of a major jam in the first inning.  In the first ever game Brandeis and Eastern Connecticut ever played back in 2010 in Waltham, MA, it was Eastern Connecticut 2, Brandeis 0 after 1/2 inning with 2 RBIs driven by Molly Rathbun before she took the mound to pitch.

Today, Eastern Conn 0, Brandeis coming up to bat after 1/2 inning.

Update--

Bottom of first from Bangor, Maine 1 out.

RBI triple from Jolie Fujita scores Melissa Rothenberg, who walked to start the inning.  Brandeis 1, Eastern Connecticut 0

Next, an RBI single from Alex Cohen scores Jolie Fujita.  Brandeis 2, Eastern Connecticut 0

After 1 inning, Brandeis 2, Eastern Connecticut 0

(Message to analyst Cole Hurlbert:  You forgot to mention that even though it is Dani Bishop's first year as the Brandeis head coach, she did coach Eastern Nazarene in the 2019 NCAA DIII Softball Tournament.)

Alyssa Vilchez chased out after 1 inning, and I now get the pitcher that I was expecting to get the start for Eastern Connecticut-- Carley Stoker, the ace pitcher of Eastern Connecticut.

Carley Stoker currently has a 2.24 ERA, and she has struck out 103 batters on 103.1 innings pitched.
