Been an off year for CWRU, but it was good to see them upset #24 ranked Chicago today.

That result moved UChicago from solid in the D3Datacast season simulations for an at-large bid to "bubble-in".  In the most recent D3Datacast simulation run conducted yesterday at 5:20 PM ET, after UChicago upset CWRU-- UChicago was still projected to get an at-large bid in 701 of the 1,000 season simulations of the final 2 weeks of the regular season.   The simulation runs are now expected to be run daily now that we are in the final 2 weeks of the regular season.  As those daily runs continue, it may not be a matter of if there comes a time when Brandeis's 1,000 season simulations show a 0 percent chance of the Judges getting an at-large bid, but when in those 3 weeks that time comes.

Brandeis is now projected to get an at-large bid in only 95 of the 1,000 season simulations of the final 2 weeks.   Those paths probably consist of Brandeis winning out their final 3 UAA home games and getting a lot of help.   The last time Brandeis won 3 or more UAA home games in a row was the 2019-2020 basketball season when the Judges went 9-1 at home on the season and 6-1 in UAA home games.  In the 2019-2020 basketball season, WashU was the only team to defeat Brandeis at the Red Auerbach Arena. Brandeis swept 2 Friday/Sunday home weekends in a row in the 2019-2020 season, but the Judges men's basketball team has not been able to sweep a Friday/Sunday home weekend since then.

That being said, I am planning to attend the final 3 Brandeis home games of the regular season in person since that is most likely going to be Brandeis's final 3 games of the season.  In addition, Brandeis is on winter break with no classes this week.   This enables the Brandeis baseball and softball teams to start their seasons this week on the road against SAA teams in the case of baseball, and SCIAC teams in the case of softball, but it also means that a lot of students will be off campus this week, and there will not be a big crowd expected for this weekend's games in Waltham, MA vs CWRU and Carnegie Mellon.

Of note, the win was accomplished with only one of the grad transfers participating, and McDaniel, thought starting, only played 17 minutes.

Also before Sunday, Chicago's record on the road was 10-1

Congratulations to the NYU Violets-- win vs Carnegie Mellon tonight clinched at least a share of the UAA title, and combined with Brandeis's loss to CWRU and WashU's win over Rochester tonight, clinched the AQ out of the UAA on the second tiebreaker.

WashU and Chicago have clinched top 4 finishes in the standings along with NYU and Emory.

First tiebreaker fails-- NYU and Emory split the head to head 1-1.

Second tiebreaker-- Brandeis cannot finish ahead of WashU and Chicago in the standings.  The best Brandeis can do is tie Chicago for 4th place at 7-7, which means WashU would finish 3rd place.

NYU's record vs WashU this season is 2-0, while Emory has gone 0-1 vs WashU going into Sunday's game at WashU.

NYU's record vs Chicago this season is 2-0, while Emory finishes with a 1-1 mark vs Chicago.

NYU is officially your 2024-2025 automatic qualifier out of the UAA to the NCAA DIII Men's Basketball Tournament.

Congratulations to the NYU Violets on winning the UAA Men's Basketball Championship outright today.--

Once again-- NYU has punched its ticket to the 2024-25 NCAA DIII Men's Basketball Championship by virtue of getting the AQ, and as a result, for the first time since 1994, NYU has won outright UAA basketball championships on both the men's and women's sides.  This is also the first time since AQs were introduced in the late 1990s that NYU clinched the basketball AQs for the UAA on both the men's and women's sides.

D3 Datacast UAA Men's Basketball Bubble Watch-- 1,000 season simulations of the final week of the regular season conducted Feb. 23, 2025 at 6:10 PM ET

UAA automatic qualifier is NYU.

Pool C locks -- WashU, Emory-- Both WashU and Emory get at-large bids in all 1,000 of the 1,000 season simulations of the final week.

Bubble-in -- UChicago gets an at-large bid in 538 of the 1,000 season simulations.

Chicago defeated Rochester today, so that result keeps UChicago on the good side of the bubble with a favorable chance of getting an at-large bid.   UChicago needs to hope that the number of bid thieves this week is around 3.6 or fewer.  UChicago can also solidify its chances for an at-large bid with a win over WashU on Saturday.
