That was pretty horrid officiating.  Phantom PI's all over the place.  Also, the Hobart broadcasting crew might be the worst I have ever heard in all sports.
Why do you say that?

I had to mute the broadcast it was so bad.  I have absolutely no problem with broadcasts being biased.  It's the home broadcast, you always expect them to be biased and why not?  It's the team they cover, it's good to be passionate like that.  However, the incessant complaining about the officiating took away from the game.  The penalty on running into the kicker was apparently the worst penalty since the missed PI call in the Dallas-Detroit game last year.  Literally went on and on about it forever.  "In no world of reality" or some ridiculous hyperbole was used.  The last play of the game when Raymond ran onto the field the color commentator kept saying "that should be a penalty, that's a penalty, that's a penalty, he should be flagged" at least 20 times.  We get it, it should have been a penalty.

Love it, some good old fashioned passion. Ted Baker is the best announcer in the league. He has a job for life as far as I am concerned😎

When Ted and Muff do it, you call it "old-fashioned passion."  When Kurt/Bob or TomSB/I do or did it, what did you call it?   8-)

That said, Ted Baker is one of the best voices in D3 football for his team's broadcast.  St. Lawrence fans should be trying to figure out a way to get Chris Engel or someone like him back in the booth for road games, at the very least.  I get to hear a number of broadcast calls each week from being a member of the "Play of the Week" team and from watching close contests during Saturday's score-watching, and I'll say that homer or not, the Liberty League is lucky to have Ted.

Was at the game and watched the final play from the goal line. It was definitely a legit Hobart score, in fact, many  Saints fans who were at that end of the field agreed , except for the heart broken. There were quite a few blatant defensive interference calls not made on the Larry DB's ( perhaps those were the ones Ted Baker discussed on air??)but I think there were a few that went Hobart's way as well, all in all officiating cancelled out on both sides. Great effort by both teams and congrats to Hobart for protecting home field against a great SLU squad. Emotional win for a Hobart  that the coaching staff almost blew by not kicking the field goal at the end of the first half. This loss must be tough for the Larrys ,but you have a great team, Hobart just wanted it a little more today to avoid another celebration at the Boz like the one RPI had a couple of weeks ago. A Great game that really showed what D3 football is all about.

Did you see Sweeney break plane on final play of 1st half? A few fans texted me saying that should have been a TD and the refs blew that call. Curious to hear what you saw / think.

I did not have a good angle for the "Sweeney non-TD" from the stands but it looked like he broke the plane, although the refs were in a better position to make the call. This close call contributed to the "officials from Canton" feeling from the Bart fans. By the way, I think a field goal would have been a better call to bring us to 17-10 at the end of the half, even though the extra point game has been inconsistent this year .
The final TD was clear to me as I left my seat to get a view from the goal line for the final 2 plays. Cooper Merrill crossed the goal line with possession as the SLU defender reached in and grabbed the ball. It happened so fast I could see why others in the stands might have felt it was an interception. Coach Raymond argued vehemently( although he had a poor angle to see "the catch" from the SLU sidelines) but the refs took time to explain ,  then walked off with grim faces into the field house...probably in search of a cocktail or two in a safe place.
Despite the intensity, the teams lined up with sportsmanship to acknowledge the days effort. Cooper Merrill hobbled into the field house as the victorious gladiator on the last score. I wished a few Saints fans luck next week and was grateful that I saw a great football game on a beautiful Fall day. It really beats the Internet .

Hobart up 14-6 on another Sweeney to Shed TD, can't wait to see a whole season from Sweeney-Shed next year.

Hobart now up 22-13 as Sweeney has 3 TD passes( 12 TD passes in last 4 starts).

Cioffi throws a pick 6(even I could have intercepted that telegraphed pass), RPI up 16-3, a trifecta killer?..... :-[

Wait, Union threw a pick-6?

stlawus

Good god what an ugly start to the game.  4 turnovers between SLU and MM in the first 4 minutes.

Bartman

Union comes back with a TD  before half , now 16-10 RPI. Nice gutsy drive after deflating pick 6. trifecta still alive.

Very slippery ball in Canton,  fumble as saints were driving ...recovered by Mariners.

Absolutlely brutal game to watch right now between SLU and MM.  SLU has turned the ball over 4 times in the first quarter.  2 of them coming off the first play of the drives off kickoffs and punts.

Bartman

Saints TD pass , up 7-0. Mariners need many more Saint turnovers to win this one.
