Ithaca scores to bring it to 13-7.  Different kicker this week?

D3viewer

Oof. Brockport cannot get out of Ithaca fast enough. Now 13-7 Brockport. Yikes. Only a few minutes left

Jonny Utah

Crappy onside kick and brockoot has the ball at midfield .  Ic still has two timeouts.  2 minutes left

thewaterboy

Why would IC not have a guy back on that punt? 11 seconds left right? At least call a fair catch and give your offense a shot.

Jonny Utah

Though to tell what happened there because the student announcers are often wrong about all sorts of things, but it looks like they had 1 or 2 timeouts left and didn't use them?  Game ended on a punt that they didn't even have someone back to return?

Machiavelli

What the hell did Ithaca just do with the clock to end that game? That was pathetic.

D3viewer

well, I'm guessing the stats will show this was Brockport's least productive day in the last few years on offense. IC played lights out on D. Surely good enough to win. THe problem is Brockport's D is still pretty good and held serve. IC could use a running game with such a good defense and special teams. Both teams lost key offensive players during/before the game. So my prediction of Brockport's D being the difference I guess came true.

They had 1 timeout left. They used it before the punt.

Props to Ithaca for hanging tough. Very lethargic game for the Brockport O. Same receiver flat out drops 2 td passes, tons of pre snap penalties, missed short fg, fumble inside the 5 yd line. Not a good showing at all by the O.

Instead of after first down. Makes no sense. And no one to fair catch and give yourself 1 chance. Terrible clock management.

The only thing I can think of is that they had unless they got a good return (5% chance?), they would have the ball deep in their own territory with one timeout (which gives them a 1% chance of winning the game). If they go for the block (1.5% chance?). Then they have the ball in good position (or maybe even score) with one timeout and 10 seconds.  That's the only rationale I can think of and it doesn't make sense.

Well the whole 'maybe they fumble on 2nd or 3rd down' mentality is stoopid too since they allowed Brockport to burn an entire minute before 3rd down. Who cares if you have a timeout left at that point? It was just dumb. You extend the game as much as possible. AND you might have 1, maybe even 2 Delay of Game calls(taken on purpose) if you call TO after first down gaining you some field position on the punt. I'm baffled. Great game but it would have been exciting for Ithaca to have a single play at the end. Probably would have been the same result but give them a chance at least!

Brockport was punting from the IC 44. There's almost no realistic scenario in which Ithaca can get a TD on offense with that little time left. You're talking 40 yards to even get into Hail Mary territory. Playing for the block was their best option.

FWIW, Gladney was moving pretty well on the sidelines. It's not football, but if he's just nursing a quad, that's a good sign for later in the year.

The QB decision was interesting. I wonder if that lingers into next week?

Machiavelli

Yeah you're right. They played it perfectly. Why even bother when there's just so much field in front of the end zone. Just pack it in and be happy it was close. Not even worth trying there. Let the clock burn out and head to the locker room. It's an emotional victory.

Why are you being snarky? They didn't take a knee. They played for the block. It didn't work. Michigan State did the same thing against Michigan. It worked. Ithaca beat Union a few years ago thanks to a botched punt snap. It's about as likely as running a punt back 90 yards for a TD or going 90 yards in 2 plays
