Mullin is 38-60 for 504 yards tonight (5 TDs, 1 INT and 5 sacks).  Wild, wild game.

crufootball

That will probably be the game as the Cru defense stops them again on 4th with less than 2 minutes left.

McM will need a pretty impressive streak in these last 2 minutes to pull this one out!

Toby -- I said UMHB by 14. It could be close to that (or not  ::))
Not really a bad dog. Just misunderstood!

Big props to McM as they easily could have beat UMHB tonight but the special teams of UMHB really made the difference.

Final UMHB 43 McMurry 31

UMHB fans should be a little concerned by this stat:

Total Offense -
McM 512
UMHB 200

That's got to be more balanced for UMHB to run the table this season.  However, that kickoff return for touchdown was a back-breaker for McMurry tonight.  Great, fun game to watch.  Have a good weekend, Folks!

this was about the game i expected, minus the penalties.  165 yds in penalties is absurd.  I'll post my comments on the ASC board though
My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

165 yds in penatlies absurd. Agreed.
My question - and I am just asking -- faulty officiating or faulty playing? ???

Yes.  Some of the penalties were caused by the constant barrage of bombs  mullin was throwing.  The DBs were getting caught trying to catch up to the wideouts and when the receivers were coming back for the ball there would be contact.

But there was this one official, the head linesman, who seemed to throw the most flags.  Seemed like he was in a "whose is bigger match" with Fredenburg.  At the end of the first half there was a sideline interference penalty on Coach on a first down play that moved the ball from about the 30 back inside the 20.  3 plays later, first down and a penalty back inside the 20.  It was a little ridiculous.

Over all I think the game was decently officiated.  There were some questionable calls and some that should have been called against McMurry that weren't (home field advantage?), but I have a feeling there will be a whole bunch of butt chewing this week   because some of the mental let downs that led to stupid penalties.

Oddly enough, last year's game was a heavily penalized game in Belton as well. Here's the comparison

2010:
First Downs by Penalty:
McMurry 4
UMHB 3
Penalites / Yards:
McMurry 7-59
UMHB 11-163

2009
First Downs by Penalty:
McMurry 2
UMHB 2
Penalites / Yards:
McMurry 11-98
UMHB 10-120

For you math majors that's an average of 220 yards of combined penalties the past two years. Oddly enough (admitedy viewing through McMurry goggles) - last year in Belton, I remember thinking that every time we had a positive gain of over five yards, it was called back for a hold. Turns out ... UMHB was penalized pretty heavy last year as well.

It was pretty lopsided this year, but I think baddog hit it on the head, there were a couple of plays where DB's did what they could do to keep the gain at 15 yards instead of much more ... Already looking forward to next year's matchup in Belton

Noack starts for the Cru over LB and hits his first pass off play action to Johnson. The scores on the option. Feaster strikes back on next possession with a big play to Tasch. and Rockwell scores, 7-7
