McMurry QB Jake Mullin is out with an injury to his right shoulder.

Start of the 4th.  HSU has the wind at its back.

My wife and I are Alumni of both UMHB and HSU.  You think you are confused, my kids don't know which Purple and Gold team to pull for.

I think that HSU can beat UMHB if they play in the post-season.

hsuASChamps

I think so too, Ralph. I believe they have what it takes.

I am definitely not dumb enough Ralph to say that is a crazy thought because I know that HSU is a great team and I would never argue they can't beat us. However until they do I am confident that Pete and the boys have HSU's number. HSU might be killing people, while UMHB has been getting by but when they played each other the Cru walked off the field with a 2 TD margin of victory and I don't see why they couldn't do it again.

If the UMHB's DB will have gotten better, then the margin should prevail.  We beat ourselves against UMHB early in the season.  We had a down week the game at UMHB.  HSU just beat us.

And it may be the "in their head" thing between UMHB and HSU, too.

Ralph, I believe I was saying this summer that McM had their best chance to win vs MHB because it was an early season game and MHB always starts slow.  That said, I would say yes McM had a down game, but UMHB's special teams beat McM, not to miss the fact that it was that porous UMHB defensive backfield that handed Mullin his first pick of the year, a pick 6.  Couple that with the UMHB QB's not being able to complete a pass and you have a game that was closer than i think it would have been if it was played even a few games later in the season.

I still have questions about the DBs, but UMHB's team at this point in the season is different than the MHB that played McM.

Weak Safety

Toby, I'm guessing that Ralph intended to say McM had a down week vs. ETBU.

I'm pretty sure he was talking about UMHB because he was comparing the losses and was saying that if HSU meets UMHB again HSU will likely win.  I don't necessarily disagree on that point because HSU has played very well since the first meeting and the Cru has continued to play sketchy football, but I do disagree with the premise that McM lost the game.  MHBs special teams took that game.

My bad.

I meant that I thought that McMurry was flat for the long road trip to ETBU the week after the UMHB game.  ETBU is a strong team that was up for that game.  They took advantage of the chance.

The UMHB special teams did win that McMurry game.  I think that special teams and line-play are the last things to fall into place for most teams.

I think that we are in place to have 2 teams in the post-season, especially as the Centennial is falling apart.  If Hampden-Sydney can beat arch-rival Randolph Macon, the RMC falls out of contention for Pool C.  I just hope that HSU doesn't get sent to UMHB, but I'll bet that HSU at UMHB is a first round game.

I think the only way the old Texas sub-bracket doesn't rear its ugly head is if a team within the driving distance makes the playoffs and there is going to have to be a flight.  Other wise the ASC starts the playoffs with a .500 win percentage.

Yes, last year Misssissippi College got bussed to Huntingdon and UMHB was sent to Central IA.  We did not have a home playoff game in the post-season.
