I think refs are much more stringent on the unsportsmanlike on the defense as their chippiness can be much more of a safety issue for an offensive player. They tend to penalize defense much more often. Perhaps Carthage has some "talkers" on offense? Doesn't excuse, but maybe an explanation?

IWU takes the kick and goes 3 and out. Bowers leads Wheaton 6 plays 63 yards.

1st play of next drive 77 yd TD for IWU

7-7 in Bloomington

USee

Wheaton drive stalls on penalties and IWU goes 90+ yds for another TD

14-7 Titans

This is NOT the game I was expecting.  Less than 3 minutes into Q2, it is 14-14; with the teams combining for almost 350 yards!  Based on both teams results so far (and talk of their respective defenses and offenses), I anticipated a defensive battle, not BIG scoring game!

USee

Wheaton drives to the 9 and a tipped ball is intercepted. Titans drive and on 3rd and 14 they go up top for a 3rd time in the game for a TD. 24-14 IWU

USee

Halftime IWU 24-17

Wheaton drives down and rushes on to kick a FG.

Very impressed with the OL and Frosh QB for the Titans, they have controlled the game so far.

Mr. Ypsi

Some defensive battle!! :P  The combined 41 points and over 600 yards are already more than I would have predicted for the entire game!

With an entire half to go, I'm certainly not going to celebrate just yet - but I will declare a POSSIBLE UPSET ALERT. ;D

Raining all day here in Wheaton and the west Chicago suburbs.  Storm is circling  just NE of Bloomington where it has been sunny all day.  Would have went to the game if I knew the whether was going to be sunny in Bloomington.  Just cant bring the dog in rainy weather. :'(

The Wheaton defense has been so solid.   This one is puzzling after having seen IWU already.

I turned the game on at half and have seen nothing but Wheaton dominating.

Alas, the POSSIBLE UPSET ALERT has been canceled. :(

Mr. Ypsi

VERY impressive goal-line stand by the Titans (1st and goal at the 3; 4th and goal from the 2), but too little-too late.  Wheaton gets the chip-shot FG to go up by 3 scores.

This is the Wheaton offense I've been expecting all year.  Great to see.

Would love to look at the film to see what adjustments Wheaton coaches made on defense in 2nd half.  Completely different game.  Seems like they came with more pressure & stunts in 2nd half to get freshman QB unsettled?

Freshman QB in the CCIW...not sure why they wouldn't have come with pressure from the beginning.
