Rooney more effective thus far than Ladd was... both through the air and on the ground.  Another 15+ yard run for Rooney.

Rooney: 4 of 5 for 17 yards.  3 rushes for 40 yards.

7 - 0 Wheaton over IWU with just over 8 minutes remaining in the half.  4 minute TOP advantage for IWU, but 2 critical turnovers.

4th & 16 IWU on Wheaton 43 with just under 3 minutes in the half.  Still 7-0 Wheaton.

Very even first half.  Both teams very, very balanced with their offense.

Wheaton 57 yards passing, 68 rushing (almost all of it in the 1st quarter).

IWU 60 yards passing, 68 rushing.

Difference is... IWU has had 13 more offensive plays and held the ball virtually the entire 2nd quarter.   7 minute TOP advantage to IWU.   But again, critical stat is the 2 IWU turnovers (1 in their redzone).

Both defenses seem to be playing at a very high level.

With 22 seconds left in the half, Titans block a punt; have the ball on the Wheaton 23-yard-line.

While typing my first half summary... IWU blocks Wheaton punt with 38 seconds in the half.  Take over at Wheaton 23.  Ouch.

Dang, the half ends with a blocked fg attempt from PAT range.

Still Thunder 7, Titans 0.

Earlier in the week I highlighted the kicking woes for both of these teams.  Today in 1 half... 2 missed FGs (1 blocked) and 1 blocked punt.  If either of these teams make it to the playoffs, this will cost them dearly.

It was a flukey play...a long pass completion, then the FG team sprinting onto the field to try to get a snap off.  Sounds like there was question as to whether or not IWU even got the snap off in time.

(It was not a "normal" field goal attempt.)

Like last week vs NCC, the only score IWU gave up in the 1st Half was after a turnover deep in its own territory.  Unfortunately, that was also the play Kraig Ladd was knocked out of the game (shoulder).

Losing Ladd is a killer.  IWU's offense is just too one-dimensional with Brien Rooney in there.  He can really run, but he doesn't stretch the field like Ladd does.  He is also not a senior captain with that "back to the wall" mentality Ladd naturally has with his career winding down.

Still, just 7-0 and an entire half to play.  The Titans D should keep them close.

Big turnover forced by Titan D on Wheaton's first play of the 2nd half and long return...IWU ball at Wheaton 15.
