Mr. Ypsi

At the half, Wheaton leads 5-3.  That still doesn't feel like a fb score. ::)

Carthage 7, Lakeland 0 at the end of the 1st qtr

Freshman QB T.J. Trepanier is taking quite a few snaps in the first half for the RedMen. T.J. is basically a running QB out of the option, but can throw a bullet pass. Unfortunately T.J. just fumbled away the ball in Musky territory. I'd like to see Jones handle the offense at this point.

Carthage picks off a pass at mid-field. Jones back on to run the offense.

Touchdown Red Men! Jake Smith on the run. Good conversion after the turnover. This drive came mostly on the ground which is a good sign for the Carthage offense. Red Men go for 2 and convert...Jake Smith again on the run, 15 - 0 Carthage on top.

Not sure why the 2 point conversion? Maybe just trying some things out before conference play. So far this season Carthage has line-up for the point after as if they're running a play (with T.J.Trepanier at QB) before shifting to the kicking formation.

Mr. Ypsi

IWU scores just before halftime to lead Alma, 21-0.

Bo Lanter having quite a day - 96 yards on only 4 carries, a reception for 27 yards, a TD. :)

Tailgater

Lakeland TD with a minute left in the half. Extra point blocked! 15 - 6 Red Men.
Now the 2 point conversion looks like a brilliant call as Carthage maintains a 2 score lead going into the half.

Wheaton up 14-6.  Definitely some growing pains for the young Wheaton QB's.  Field is an absolute mess.

Rocky Gingg with 175 yards on 32 carries is the difference in the game.  Wheaton with 400+ yards of offense, Albion only 170.  It'll be interesting to hear from those tracking the game, but it looks as if the game shouldn't be as close as it is.

For those wondering about the 3 way competition for Wheaton QB, looks like it went to Garrett Meador over Jordan Roberts.

Meader: 9-19 for 186 yards, no TD's, no INT
Roberts: 4-7 for 29 yards, no TD's, no INT

Carthage driving on the opening possession of the 2nd half. Inside the Musky 5 yard line, 3rd down.... radio feed lost  :o oh no. Feed back. Tyler funk kicks a field goal Red Men up 18 - 6. Jones and Trepanier sharing QB duties in the opening drive. Announcers say field is in rough condition. Ankle deep mud center of the field between the hashes.

Game over Wheaton 17-6 over Albion.

Overall decent game for Wheaton.  I'm always a bit nervous for the 1st game because Wheaton always starts a week later than everyone.  Having one game under the belt is an advantage to whatever opponent Wheaton plays.  That mixed with poor field conditions and rain evens out the game a bit.

Sounds like Wheaton had difficultly punching in for TD's and had to settle of 3 FG's in addition to the sole TD by Rocky Gingg.

Very balanced attack for Wheaton - 208 yards rushing, 215 passing.  Gingg finished with 36 carries for 185 yards - the "work horse" is BACK!  Great news for Wheaton after he played injured all season in 2009.

Solid defensive performance by Wheaton, holding Albion to 185 total yards (123 passing, 62 rushing).  Albion had some very talented skill players - QB, RB and WR.  The RB (Clinton Orr) came into the game averaging nearly 7 yards per carry over the last 6 games.  Wheaton held him to 66 yards on 22 carries for a 3 yard average

Like I said, I look forward to getting the impression from someone who actually watched the game.
