NCC with another drive that ends w blocked FG

Bethel struggling on offense. lots of 3rd and longs.

NCC intercepts a 3rd and long pass over the middle. NCC ball againat midfield

GoldandBlueBU

NCC looks very, very good offensively!

If Peterson were in, I fully believe BU would be making this a bit more competitive because they'd be able to move the ball on offense, however it doesn't look like the defense is up to the task, and I doubt BU would be able to keep up.

USee

Well two years ago NCC was up 21-0 on Wabash and we know how that ended.

Bethel with another stop on D. have the ball in good field position in NCC territory

Bethel' defensive line alignment I'm guessing is to better defend zone blocking schemes?

Yeah, it works really well in conference, anyway.  I'm honestly not sure about lining up a yard off the ball...I only played one year, and it was on offense.  There's a guy on the MIAC board, Hazzbeen, who was a multi year starter on defense, and he'd probably be able to shed more light on the strategy.  He's at the game I believe, but if you post a question, he'll probably get back to you.

GoldandBlueBU

Gosh...not sure where he was even going there.   ???

USee

another turnover by Bethel. 3 this half. going to be tough to score when you give it away.

USee

Defensivle linemen who line up off the ball are there to "read" and react to the blocking scheme. This defensive line doesn't seem to be a slanting, looping front so it seems they are just engaging the offensive line a yard deeper than other teams. I don't see the sense in it.

Bethel became very one-dimensional very early in this game.  Beyond the first drive, it seems it has taken just one negative or neutral play to stunt their momentum.

Beyond this, that field is an embarrassment.  Lots of players slipping, etc., to end plays early or narrow passing options.  Happily for this Red-and-Black clad onlooker, the biggest impact so far was on the first Bethel drive, where their RB slipped when basically headed for the endzone.  A negative play led to a FG, and instead of being up 7-0, it was only 3-0, and the Cards answered quickly.

Yeah, that is where lacking Peterson really hurts.

Yep, the field looks awful.  Shame there was a monster truck rally at the Metrodome today, otherwise they probably would have gone there like they did in the first round.

Edit - I'll add that this is what I was expecting offensively for BU, but really, really, hoping against.

I've seen you post this on a few boards today.  You've been hanging out with Wally Wabash too much... ;D ;)

not hoping, just stating facts. Stranger things have happened.  ;D

DadofBashWarrior..

Tough for Bethel to start the half with that turnover...
