AVCA preseason poll is out:   https://www.avca.org/polls/diii-women/2021-season/4-21-2021.html

(1) Trinity (TX) (37) - 2052
(2) Colorado College (16) - 1969
(3) Calvin (2) - 1878
(4) Emory (10) - 1812
(5) Carthage (1) - 1767

Should be interesting.  Trinity has almost everyone back - all their upperclassmen and sophomores return.  All of them.  Colorado on the other hand lost its entire senior class (five) but returns three starters, brought in a dozen first years, and a new coach, Sharon Dingman, who comes to CC from UChicago with 30 years experience at the D3 and D1 levels.   UC was ranked #1 at one point in 2019 before falling in their regional final and finishing 28-4.

Trinity gets through their opening tournament unscathed, though they were pushed to five sets Saturday against Whitworth.  They head to Cal Lutheran this week where the level of competition will be much higher, facing #4 Emory (5-0) and #10 Claremont-Mudd Scripps (4-0) in addition to the hosts (RV, 1-2).

Looks like JHU is for real again this year (darn it) with a 3-0 win over #4 Colorado College, 25-21, -17, -19, hitting .339 in the process.   That's the first loss in 12 matches for the Tigers, who had dropped a total of three sets in their first 11.

Also, BSC upset #7 Berry yesterday in 4 sets  (The one set BSC lost was 25-9-may have been a Knute Rockne type speech going on before Set 4 of that one.)

Trinity (TX) in the middle of a four match New England (!!) trip.   Struggled to get past Endicott (now 10-7) before putting it away 15-9 in the fifth; defeated #22 Babson (now 14-2) on their home floor in four sets, breaking Babson's 45 game home winning streak (dating four years and a day).   Tomorrow they start at #17 (and 17-0) MIT and end it at RV Tufts (10-4) who will play that other Trinity (CT) team earlier in the day.

Trinity knocks off formerly undefeated and #17 MIT easily in straight sets (25-12, -16, -22), but despite dominating Tufts in the first and fourth sets take an unexpected loss, losing in five 25-12, 21-25, 23-25, 25-17, 17-19.  Have to think the stress of travel and playing four matches at three colleges in something like 30 hours could have been part of that.   Back to SCAC action with another divisional in Georgetown TX where the final match against the homestanding Southwestern Pirates (16-1/6-1 SCAC) will present the most significant challenge of the weekend.

St. Thomas-TX comes back from 2 sets down to stun #5 Colorado College over the weekend. If that doesn't make the Celts' season, it'll come darn close.

#56
Trinity 3-0 over TLU in the first semi, though the first two sets were close with TLU leading most of the first. 25-21, 25-22, 25-11.

Southwestern is leading Colorado College who are badly out of sync, 25-10, 25-21.

Edit:  not a thing of beauty but CC comes back after an early deficit to take the third set 25-19.  Tigers going with a seven-person rotation, are up 7-2 in fourth.  Southwestern hitting under .150 (and falling), Colorado up to .092.

Edit: CC takes fourth set 25-19.

Edit:  SW takes fifth 15-11, closing out the match on a 4-0 run.

D3Navy

Many tough early matchups for Trinity in 2022: Berry, UW - Eau Claire, Johns Hopkins, Emory, and Juniata.  These are all in the first two weeks of the season!

Go Tigers!

Trinity defeats UW - Eau Claire in three sets.  Terrific volleyball and TU seems to be in stride early in the season.
