UMHB knocks out UT-Dallas to face McMurry in the ASC finals.

I think that UTD is in as the #3 Pool C.  McMurry (Never-ranked) and UMHB South #7 can win it all.

Emory just helped itself with their win over Rochester.  That win is almost like a tourney win.  The field needed Rochester to put Emory away.

Are VWC and UTD the Pool C bids from the South?

Does a Randolph win over Randy Mac knock UTD out of the tourney?

Here's what we've got in the South:

South Region
1 Virginia Wesleyan 20-3 22-3                    Lost in ODAC semi's
2 Randolph-Macon 20-4 21-4                        Playing in the ODAC final against Randolph 11/26
3 Texas-Dallas 19-4 20-5                          Lost in ASC semi's
4 Ferrum 18-4 21-4                                   Playing NC Wesleyan in USA South final 11/26
5 Eastern Mennonite 15-4 21-4                    Lost in ODAC Semi's
6 North Carolina Wesleyan 14-4 19-6             Playing Ferrum in USA South final 11/26
7 Mary Hardin-Baylor 19-6 19-6                   Playing in ASC final
8 Emory 18-5 19-5                                      ... didn't win the Pool A, waiting to see on the Pool C

I don't think that Emory really has that much of a spot... too many spots to leap over to even get on the board.

Here's what we've got in the South:

South Region
1 Virginia Wesleyan 20-3 22-3                    Lost in ODAC semi's  First Pool C
2 Randolph-Macon 20-4 21-4                        Playing in the ODAC final against Randolph 11/26  Wins Pool A
3 Texas-Dallas 19-4 20-5 20-5/21-6                         Lost in ASC semi's
4 Ferrum 18-4 21-4                                   Playing NC Wesleyan in USA South final 11/26  Wins Pool A
5 Eastern Mennonite 15-4 21-4                    Lost in ODAC Semi's
6 North Carolina Wesleyan 14-4 19-6 15-5/20-7            Playing Ferrum in USA South final 11/26  Loses in USAS finals
7 Mary Hardin-Baylor 19-6 19-6  21-7/21-7 with a loss                 Playing in ASC final   Loses to McMurry and out or Wins Pool A
8 Emory 18-5 19-5  19-5/20-5                                   ... didn't win the Pool A, waiting to see on the Pool C

Thanks Point.

Consider this.  The above scenario probably brings them to the table.

If McMurry beats UMHB for the ASC Pool A, McM has picked up three more wins this week.  Does this move McMurry into the (final) Regional Rankings for the first time this year.  McMurry beat UTD earlier in the season.  That would give UTD another loss a second loss against a regionally ranked team, in addition to the loss to UMHB today!

Emory, however, picked up a win against a regionally ranked opponent, Rochester.

Just asking for other opinions...

UPDATED 2/26

ASC will be hosted by East #1 UT-Dallas.

McMurry clinched the outright #1 for the West.

Louisiana College has clinched the East #4 seed.  They have one more game against Mississippi College, which is eliminated for the first time ever.  Louisiana College goes to Mississippi College on Monday night to play for the last slot.  If LC wins, then they finish tied for 3rd but UTT won the season series 2-0, the tie-breaker, to earn the #3 seed  If Mississippi College wins, then MC ties LaCollege for 4th but has the tie-breaker.

I do not have the times, but this is the unofficial bracket for the ASC Play-in Tourney and Championship.

East listed first.

#1 UTD vs #4 Concordia-Texas  (Controlled half court offense vs run-and-gun by the most athletic club in the conference.)   UTD 85-70
#3 UT-Tyler vs #2 UMHB  (Former MC asst. Kenny Bizot versus UMHB coach veteran Ken DeWeese)   UMHB 73-68
#2 ETBU vs #3 Hardin-Simmons (Both teams have athletes.  HSU road win 81-77 back on Dec 11).  HSU 72-71
#4 LaColl Mississippi Coll. vs #1 McMurry   (Dean of ASC Coaches Gene Rushing who has been at LC since 1985 versus rookie coach Matt Garnett.) (Or arch-rival Mississippi College vs McMurry) McMurry 77-69

Semi-Finals
McM #1-W  vs HSU #3-W (McMurry won both games in the regular season.)
UT-D #1-E   vs UMHB #2-W   (UMHB beat UTD 79-66 in Belton)

Coach Butterfield thought he had the toughest matchup of the first round just because of the CTX style of defense.

Finals McMurry vs UMHB at UTD 2pm CST

#3 Middlebury takes down #1 Williams 63-54 to win the NESCAC Pool A bid. That may also give Middlebury the #1 ranking when the new D3Hoops Top 25 poll comes out. Middlebury has 4 guys in double figures, Nolan Thompson with 15, Ryan Sharry, who missed the 1st game against Williams when the Panthers suffered their only loss, had 14 points and 12 rebounds, Joey Kizel had 13, and Jake Wolfin had 11.

Williams was led by Troy Whittington with 13 and James Wang with 12.

Once again, Middlebury's defense was outstanding, as they held Williams to a season low 54 points.
