Teams to look out for 2010- 2011 season mens basketball

Bethany College in West Virginia. They will have a couple new transfers coming in One D1 player and one Division II player. The Bethany Bison were third in the PAC Conference last year but should go to the national tournament this upcoming season.


Who do you think will be a good basketball program for this upcoming season ?

Castleton state ,VT have a confidence this season.
Zero lost key players and add to solid Freshman class.
We were advance conference tourney champioship game last season.

They have experence play college level.
2 sr, 5 jr,5 so, players and 2 or 3 freshman on 10-11 Roster.

We might to take NAC title!

If that's the case, then the Al Van Wie Classic game at Wooster, between Bethany and the Scots, on Nov. 20, should be an interesting early-season test.

I'm planning to go see Richard Stockton at Widener on November 23rd.  Both teams were pretty good last year, so hopefully it will be a solid early season matchup.

IWU (rather shockingly, even for we partisans) went to the Elite Eight last year.  They graduated exactly one (backup) guard (though arguably the best defender).  Barring a 'Group of Death'  of 2009 proportions, IMO anything less than Salem will be a disappointment.  Ron Rose's 'baby Titans' are finally juniors and seniors.

Personally, I'll be disappointed with anything short of 'Walnut-and-Bronze', but I am often disappointed.   Even PC thought they SHOULD have won it all in 2006

Those are the two teams I most fear in the 'Midwest' (though we took out Carthage last postseason).  I am NOT making a prediction (getting to Salem takes a fair amount of luck, as well as skill), just my personal hopes.

I would LOVE to see a championship showdown between IWU and UWSP - hopefully not earlier!

Yes, Bethany vs Wooster should be a very interesting early season game.

Wooster should be a strong contender to make the Final Four this season, IMO.  The Scots return their top 5 scorers and 9 of their top 10 players assuming that there are no unexpected transfers.

Wooster finished 25-6 last season losing in the NCAA sectional semi-finals at Guilford, a Final Four team.  The Scots beat the regular season WIAC champ, UW Whitewater, in the 2nd round of the NCAA tourney which was a quality win over a nationally ranked team.

Wooster's leading scorer, Ian Franks, was selected NABC First Team All American and D3Hoops 4th Team All American.  Franks is a 6'4" point guard who can break down the defense for a basket or an easy assist.  Franks shot 52% from the floor and 41% on three pointers when teams sagged to stop his penetration drives.  Wooster has three other strong scoring threats in starters Nathan Balch (D1 transfer), Bryan Wickliffe and 6'7" Justin Hallowell.  Scots also have additional size in 6'8" Jake Mays and 6'7" Josh Claytor who logged significant minutes last year.

So, Wooster should be a fun team to watch this season.

I still think it's crazy that this last match-up was just the third time the two schools have met.  I know IWU just played their 100th year of basketball... and Point has been playing basketball since 1899... so that's a lot of years not to play one another for two of the more successful programs in small college basketball!

Even though both schools are on I-39, the travel is a bit prohibitive... I think it's 7 or 8 hours one way, which means that it isn't just a one-day trip.

It's not impossible, but it definitely is more expensive than playing schools in the Chicago area (for both teams).
