I'll admit that I enjoyed the game yesterday, but that's because I had to sit through the `98 game.  Even so, I don't want `em all to go that way.  As nice as it is to hang that on DPU, the games that are closer are just simply more exciting, even if we don't always win them.

And as much faith as I have in Wabash, if you'd asked me how that game was going to go before hand, I'd have come up with about every scenario than that one.  If we ever needed more proof that you can throw everything else in a season out when trying to predict Bell games, let me direct you to Exhibit A.

I'd say good game, DPU, but that would smack of disingenuity.  I will say the best part about this rivalry is that you get another shot at us next year, and I'm sure this one will still be smarting when they take the field in `11.  It didn't apparently help us a lot in `99, but maybe that fire will make for a hell of a game next year.

Hell of a show, Bash.  One helluva show.

You know, I think the longest memories are the losses. I'm sure that my contemporaries at Danny-land curse the 1985 and 1986 Bell Games as much as I can't forget to remember to forget 1987.

I'll say this, it'd sure be cool to see the bracket come out the way Pat projected.  Both DePauw and Wabash play good teams - Wheaton & Ohio Northern, respectively, but they'd square off in round two.

Don't really know if I WANT another shot at the LGs or not, but that'd sure be cool, wouldn't it?

+K  :D

This is the best - and perhaps most likely - explanation of what occurred yesterday!

Well, I'm not upset about Wabash's snub - they shouldn't have lost to Wash U.

But, I would like an accounting of the bank accounts for all of DPUs major donors, especially large cash transactions in and out of the Cayman Islands. Somehow they greased the skids to get them to host a game while Witt travels to ONU.

DePauw's SOS is 39th compared to Wittenberg's 175.

I'm no genius, but I'm guessing this played a huge part..not the bank accounts!!

That's a very valid point, but before Wabash folks grab pitchforks, I'll say the same thing I said on the NCAC board.  If that's the criteria you use to argue for DePauw to be a 3, then Wabash has to be in this tournament over Montclair.  You can't reward DePauw for that and then turn around and not do the same for the Pool C candidates.

DePauw has to be a 5/6 and Wabash is out or DePauw is the 3 and Wabash is in.  That's the choice to me.  I still think DePauw as the 3 is high either way, but if you are to give them that kind of "credit" for getting whipped yesterday, then Wabash deserves that same credit for a win of that magnitude.

No pitchforks here, I for one am happy for Depauw in getting the beneficial draw.  It will be a nice thing for the program to host a playoff game.

Some of the selection committee's moves were bizarre.   There seems to be a few head-scratchers every year out of that group.

Depauw needs to shake off the Bell and figure out a way to rebound.   Breaking down Saturday's game on what happened would probably be a good place to start.  Trine will be breaking it down as well I am sure.

Wabash lost 2 football games and that put us on the bubble.  Anything can happen on the bubble.

Why should you go for it on 4th down?

Yeah, but 10-0 vs. 9-1 in region. That's supposedly higher up than SOS.

But you gotta win anywhere to win the title. And it seems like DPU can't handle a 27 mile jaunt up 231 to face a good team.

When asked what the Sphinx Club was going to do with the funds remaining in their Monon Bell account, the decision was made to buy "rape whistles" for the DePauw football team. :)

Agreed.  I don't think I'll be able to forget this sh*tshow, and that thought really started to dig in early in the 3rd quarter.  For me, the most horrendous stat is 95 yards of offense.  Yeah, the numbers that really stand out this Monday morning are 47, 0, and 95.  Say what you want about Wabash dropping 500 yards on DPU, I was more disappointed in the offense.  While I did worry about the effects of rain on our offense, I didn't think the end result would be this horrible.  Apparently we are water-soluble.

Making the playoffs (PLAYOFFS?!)  is great but I'd much rather have a Bell.  Maybe I'm in the minority with that view, but a season with a loss to Wabash is a failed season in my book.  Conversely, 0-9 season can be redeemed with a Bell victory.  I'd like to be optimistic and look forward to DePauw at home vs Trine, but it just doesn't feel right.  And after speaking to a few DPU parents on Saturday, I'm concerned that we won't touch that Bell until 2013.  Walker seemed to be a better recruiter than Long, and at this point I want Coach Nick back.

I HATE to say it, but congrats Wallies.  There is no way around that beating.  Based on EVERYTHING about that game, you deserve the Bell.  I feel like a Wabash freshman after bid night; violated, in need of a shower, and too humiliated to call the police.  I can only hope that history holds true and next year this will again be anyone's game.  See you @$$clowns next year.

I agree with your comments regarding the Bell...

Rain didn't have anything to do with this beat down.

After a long weekend, finally some thoughts on the 117th Monon Bell Classic.

So basically Wabash showed up and thrashed a 9-0 league champion.  And "thrashed" doesn't quite do this game justice.  Wabash won this game in every single way possible.  This was the product of a tremendous game plan by the coaching staff and tremendous execution by every single one of those players wearing Wabash red on Saturday.  Engle was never ever allowed to be comfortable in the pocket and as a result had zero success throwing the ball.  Wabash used an awful lot of the read option in this game...more than they have all season really and why not?  DePauw's defense looked completely and totally confused by it and never came close to stopping it.  And then once Wabash was running all over the field, Wabash WRs started running free down the middle of the field and before you know it, we've got an good ol' fashioned whoopin' going on.  I just can't say how proud I am of everybody involved with the Wabash program that turned this around seven days after the Wittenberg game and not only got ready to play and be competitive, but to be dominant.  It was simply an awesome display of college football.

Congratulations to the entire Wabash team and coaching staff on this historic victory.  47-0 happens because of hard work and desire...and this week, these men worked harder and wanted this game more than their opponent.

Another great Monon Bell Stag last night at the Murat in downtown Indianapolis. Both schools represented by their presidents and head football coaches. Oh, that's right, Robby Long took the time to be there. Once again, Wabash HC didn't bother.

Coach Raeburn couldn't make the Monon Stag this year becuase he was busy putting the finishing touches on the deluxe woodshed that he built to drag your Tigers behind and beat like a bongo drum in a circle of hippies.   ;)

BTW...this is the fourth consecutive year that the team with a guaranteed game after week 11 has lost in this rivialry.  The last three of those games haven't been close.  Anybody ready to bite on my seniors-in-their-last-game-have-something-extra theory?

At least he got burgers and brats.
