The AU followers will be happy to know that the guys on the internet broadcast gave a shout out and some face time to the pepband, citing them as the element that pushed the game over the edge in favor of AU.  On to next Saterday.  There is a reason they play the game.

My sincere congrats to AU and its faithful....Minus some of the tools that were on the chat page on the vid feed.
Make us proud AU!

Nice win for Alfred.  They are officially the "last {east} team standing".  Pretty impressive for a "non-ranked" team to make it to the Elite 8.  Hopefully the Saxons can figure out how to solve for that MUC defense.

I thought DVC would fare better and it looked good in the early going, but the second half was all MUC.

Their defense has allowed 3 pts in 2 games.  Pretty impressive to say the least.

As Chris already said, the announcers gave kudos to the pep band!  Definitely the deciding edge.  Having met Austin Dwyer at the SLU game, I'm amazed how such a diminutive person can be such a "beast" on the field! Secky did a great job moving the chains.  Great day!  Being able to score against the wind and control the ball was huge in the first half.  Wanted to be there, but had to attend a funeral for a colleague who passed away on Monday.  Watched the game on the internet.  Great option.  The winds were minimal and the temps were around 68 in my kitchen.  I'll be watching next weekend too.  ON SAXON WARRIORS!!!

Congratulations to Alfred.  We were beaten by a better team.  Alfred controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.  Cortland tried to hang but not enough fire power.  Good luck in Ohio.

Just back from Cortland. The Alfland Mug stays in Mayberry. Congrats to the Red Dragons on a great season and a well-played game. Great game, Saxons! AU Pep Band is proud of our team and will re-group for a trip to Alliance. Pep is now off to music ministry rehearsal. Maybe more later.

Congratulations Alfred!  I'm sure that win gave my brother Mike something special to smile about today.

Without question the Saxons are the best team we have seen this season.  I think Montclair is a solid club, but Alfred was a full tier above that level.   Alfred brought great line play on both sides of the ball and that was the difference.  It makes me think they have some hope in Alliance next Saturday, though they will have to play their best game to keep it close.

No complaints on the Cortland side.  It was a good season - NJAC Championship, 10-2 record, Cortaca Jug, 2nd round of the NCAA's.  I won't go into broken record mode on Cortland's weaknesses, as nothing has changed in the last several games.  Suffice it to say their season needed to end soon.  They over-achieved in my opinion, and had gone as far as they could go in 2010.  Hopefully the coaches can parlay the great season into a strong recruiting off-season.

Justin Bieber created 666 false D3 identities to give me negative karma.

They really need to limit the turnovers next week to give them a shot... Good Luck Alfred.

Congradulations to your band, team and fans. I watched most of your game from the West Coast today. It looked real cold. Good luck the rest of the way, Pep.

A SCal fan.

Thanks for your support, dalby....+K

It was C O L D but the team's play warmed us up and the Alfred fans were extremely vocal and supportive of our Saxons. Our "band" amounted to nothing more than one trumpet, two kazoos and a drumset with a non-drummer banging on them all day. Pep was grateful for our lone trumpet, who drove from Long Island this morning to be there, en route back to Rochester after spending Thanksgiving with her family.

Pep is excited that the students will be back on campus and perhaps Pep can muster a "real band" for the trip to Alliance on Saturday.

Congrats to the Alfred program. Your guns were just too big for us to defend!  Nothing stings more than an offense that keeps moving the chains leaving  you with that helpless feeling.  Our offense was just too sporadic, as it has been for several years in big games.  Best of luck next week in Alliance!

This Alfred team has matured significantly through the 2010 season. Ironically, the Saxons struggled running the ball early in the 2010 season. Freshman Austin Dwyer emerged as the "go-to" back and has come up with his best results in Alfred's biggest games. Today, Dwyer finished with 186 yards on 32 carries, giving him 1,390 on the season, just 16 yards off the school single-season mark set in 2007 by Vinson Hendrix. Incidentally, Hendrix is one of Dwyer's biggest fans!

Here's a story on today's game in which Coach Murray talks a bit about Dwyer:

With all due respect to xdragon77, the offense did not give up 34 points and over 400 yds of offense today. Alfred controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball.

Clandfan,
You are correct! I only add that the offense left the Defense on the field quite a bit. If we could drive the ball with more consistency, even if going scoreless.....it keeps the other team off the field while wearing out their D. Nothing we don't already know.  That is where we got pounded yesterday.  The Yin didn't compliment the Yang!

Alfred definately contributed to this situation, but those of us that follow the Dragons know offensive consistency suffered after the O-line injuries starting at the Rowan game.  Regardless, Alfred took care of business.

I am proud of the Red Dragons, and agree with DP that we may have over achieved this year!  Congrats on a great year and I am already excited to see what experinece returns for next season.
