The Thunder defend for the first time against our pal Greg Sager's North Park Vikings at 5 pm Monday in St. Petersburg, Fla. with Wartburg waiting for a potential title shot tomorrow.

Trine won its first two defenses against North Park and Wartburg; UW-Eau Claire is the new #1 contender this afternoon on DePauw's home court. The winner will defend again tomorrow against the winner of DePauw vs. Marian.

after two successful defenses against DePauw and Oshkosh, #9 Eau Claire's title reign came to an end in a ranked battle at home against #17 Whitewater 79-69.

Oshkosh immediately regains #1 contender status as they visit UWW on Wednesday night.

another title change - Whitewater won its first defense against Oshkosh but went down today 72-65 at UW-Stout.

Eau Claire with the first shot at getting The Women's Belt ^TM back on its home floor against the Blue Devils this Wednesday night.

UWEC reclaimed The Women's Belt ^TM by thrashing Stout and then survived in OT at La Crosse on Saturday. They're at River Falls tomorrow night; if they make it through that and the ensuing two defenses against Oshkosh and Whitewater there's a pretty decent chance the Blugolds hold it all the way into the NCAA Tournament.

The Women's Belt^TM has been doing some traveling the past month. River Falls claimed It^TM in an 81-70 win over UWEC on the 25th then promptly handed It^TM to Stout on Wednesday in a 70-55 win for the Blue Devils.

Eau Claire succesfully defended 2/24 against Stout, but dropped the title to Whitewater in the WIAC Championship game.

I think that the Fair Use of the term, The Belt^TM, for the educational purposes that occur on these boards might mitigate against any copyright infringement or roylaties.   

It is not like we have to pay out the wazoo whenever we refer to that championship game that occurred in Arlington, TX yesterday.

Now a product placement ad employing the The Belt^TM during a D-III sporting event might run into challenges from the NCAA.

The traveling continues as Whitewater loses to Trinity in the Sweet 16 who immediately lose to Smith. The 12 days Whitewater held The Belt^TM tied the longest stretch It^TM remained with one team since last year's champs gave It^TM up to Trine in December. Hopefully (to me anyways) It^TM will change hands again when Smith faces Transylvania in the Final Four next Saturday. Either way, the Pioneers will carry The Belt^TM to Texas for the title game April 1st.

The Pioneers beat the Pioneers 76-65 as The Belt^TM changes hands yet again and will spend a couple weeks in Kentucky. We must wait until April 1st to see where It^TM will spend the summer. Could It^TM decide to have a family reunion with The Men's Belt^TM at Christopher Newport?

I may have missed something but I believe if CNU beats Transylvania they will be the first D3 school to ever win the men's and women's basketball national championships in the same year. This feat has only been accomplished three times in NCAA history, once in Division II by Central Missouri in 1984 and twice in D1 by UConn (2004, 2014).

The Belt^TM spent the summer in Lexington making all the Kentucky Wildcat fans jealous that they've never won anything as wonderful as The Belt^TM.

Now that the season in underway, Transylvania has defended It^TM at DePauw 60-50, then at home against Maryville 72-42, and Wisconsin Lutheran 54-48. Next up Wittenberg will head to the Beck Center.

Since March 18, 2023, Transylvania successfully defended the Women's Belt^TM on 32 successful occasions.

However, tonight, March 14, 2024, in the DIII Women's Basketball Semifinals, the 33rd challenger, NYU, successfully hit Violet Storm Zero^TM and covered for the 1-2-3 pin over Transy to become the new Women's Belt ^TM champions.

Final score-- NYU 57, Transylvania 42.

In the process, Transylvania's 64 game winning streak, the third longest in NCAA DIII Women's Basketball history, came to an end, and Wash U's 81 game winning streak set from
1998 to 2001 will still stand as the longest DIII Women's Basketball streak for some time to come.

NYU's first title defense will be on Saturday, March 16, 2024, against Smith.  The winner of Saturday's game will not only hold the Women's Belt^TM for the summer, but will also claim the Walnut and Bronze from the NCAA.
