Congratulations to Ohio Wesleyan senior Rachel Messaros, named the NCAC Player of the Week for the holiday period.  Rachel averaged 23 points per game in leading the Bishops to the title in their own Bishop Tournament with wins over North Central and Ohio Dominican.  NCAC Women's POTW

Witt holds a 12 point lead over Hiram with 2 days and about 15 minutes to go.  Of course, the two days is because of tonight's power outage at Hiram with about 15 minutes remaining in the game.

The game will resume on Sunday after the Wabash-Hiram men's game, scheduled for a 2 pm tip.  Therefore, Witt's weekend now goes Hiram-Allegheny-Hiram.  I would hate to be on the bus for that one - long trip made even longer.

Congratulations (again) to Denison's Kristin Sheffield, the NCAC Women's Player of the Week for the first week of January.  Sheffield, a strong contender for conference player of the year, added 28 points and 23 rebounds to her season stats as the Big Red defeated Kenyon and Ohio Wesleyan to claim sole possession of first place.  Sheffield is also closing in on her 300th career blocked shot, a milestone reached by only 13 other women in D3 basketball history.  She may well achieve this honor tomorrow at Wooster.  Good luck, Kristin!  :)

Denison senior forward Kristin Sheffield recorded her 37th and 38th blocked shots of the season tonight as Denison won at Wittenberg 63-50.  Sheffield now has 300 blocks in her All-American career, becoming just the 14th D3 women's player ever to reach that milestone (unless someone else has done it over the past 10 days.)  Sheffield added 14 points and 11 rebounds as DU extended their NCAC lead to three full games over Witt and Allegheny, 78-55 winners over Oberlin (1-6) tonight.

Congratulations to Kristin Sheffield and to the Big Red!  :)

Congratulations go out to Wooster's Beth Besancon Sidle, this week's NCAC Women's Player of the Week.  Beth filled in the nets for 24 points, including 6 three-pointers, as the Scots upset Allegheny in Meadville and got back into the race to host a conference playoff game.  Congratulations, Beth!  :)

In something that may have been long overdue, Denison received 4 votes in this week's top 25, placing them near the bottom of the "others receiving votes" category.  I guess it takes a 13-game win streak for an NCAC team to get any love.

DU actually had 5 points last week as well, but point taken.  I'd like to see the Big Red get a little more national respect, but I'd rather see them win a couple of games in the NCAAs.

I'm planning to be at Kenyon tomorrow for the Witt/Kenyon game.  Will I see you there?

jscwittfan

As a matter of fact you will.  John and myself will both be making the trip.
