Congratulations to Denison, NCAC regular season and tournament champions, perfect at 28-0, and now awaiting what will surely be a home regional at Livingston Gym next weekend.  Way to go, Big Red!

I was wondering about this, and hoping that the DU women will earn some hosting rights. It'd be great to have a couple NCAC teams make some noise in the Big Dance this year!

Congrats to the Denison Women on the tremendous season to date. 28-0 is immensely impressive against any schedule, and I know they'll represent the NCAC well in the tourney.

All-tournament team:

Shaina Kaiser, Denison (MVP)
Haley Dahlgard, Denison
Serafina Nuzzo, Denison
Heidi Goeller, Allegheny
Kayla Gordon, OWU
Morgan Korinek, Kenyon

It looks like Calvin's victory over Hope last night helps Denison's chance of hosting.  Anything can happen, but I think the chances are very good.

Well, ouch!  28-0 isn't worth what it used to be.  Denison has to go on the road (to Hope) and face the defending national champions (WUSTL) in the first round.  Same old, same old.  Go make a statement, Big Red!

This regional contains four of the top 11 teams in the most recent D3hoops.com Top 25 poll.  Talk about your bracket of death!

Amazing.....Can't believe Denison didn't get the host! What gives????

The women's committee has never had a 'bracket of death' anywhere near the men's 2-3 years ago (TEN of the top 11 teams in the same quarter of the field :o), but that sure is a 'pod of death'! ;)

I real shame that Denison didn't get home games. Still Go Big Red.

Disappointing, but we shall overcome! ;D

As a Hope fan I thnk that both Denison and Hope should be hosting. As much as I don't want Calvin in our pod (They beat us twice), the NCAA should have put Calvin in Hope's pod and had Denison host  Calvin's pod.

I think Sara Lee has a huge coaching job on her hands this week.  First, she has to take the disappointment and anger that surely is bubbling inside the DU players and turn that into a controlled positive force.  Then she has to make sure that the Big Red understand that they can hang with these giants of small college hoops.  I'm sure that they've had DePauw in the backs of their minds all season, but having to face Wash U. and then potentially Hope on their home court might seem overwhelming, especially if you were anticipating a much easier draw on your own floor.  I've seen Wash U. on video (vs. Case), and based on that one game alone, I'm sure that Denison can play with them.  Coach Lee has four days to convince the DU players, deep down to their souls, that they can beat any and all of these great teams, starting with the Bears.

Go Big Red!  You can do this!  Get the respect you've earned!

All the best of luck to Denison. I think they may well have gotten the worst draw of the entire tournament, men or women.

But at least, as my brother pointed out, none of the other three teams can be happy with their draw either. From a tournament perspective, it's always frustrating when the opening two rounds will force matchups better situated for the Sweet Sixteen and Elite Eight rounds.

Best of luck to Denison...knock them all off then angle to host for the second weekend!!

Tom Wilson of the Newark Advocate writes about Denison and their tournament draw.

Quote from: Tom WilsonSenior Shaina Kaiser, who was selected as the NCAC Player of the Year and tournament most valuable player, leads a balanced attack with a 16.5 scoring average.
He clearly knows something we don't. :)

DU moves up to #10 in the final regular-season D3hoops.com poll.  Wash U. is #12, DePauw #8, Hope #4.

Does anyone know if Denison submitted paperwork to host?

David Collinge

I don't know for sure, but there's no reason why they wouldn't have.  Coach Lee was clearly hoping that they'd be selected to host, and I'm sure she knows if the paperwork was submitted.

Dutchfan, I definitely agree with your thinking that Hope's pod is the toughest in the tournament.  I don't think anyone would disagree there. But I don't agree with just switching Denison and Calvin and having Denison host. Why would the committee have Hope host Calvin when Calvin beat them 2 out of 3 s, has a better in region winning percentage, and similar SOS.

What about the argument for Denison to host Hope's pod?

I'm just trying to understand your logic, not trying to provoke anything.
