The winner of Brandeis/Grove City/Roger Williams will play on Saturday against the winner of Southern Virginia vs Skidmore with a trip to the national quarterfinals in Chattanooga, TN on the line.

Update-- May 13-- The Rome Tennis Center at Berry College is planning to stream their NCAA DIII tournament matches on Playsight this week.  Grove City has already put up a video link to the Rome Tennis Center's Playsight video app.  Grove City vs Roger Williams is at 12:30 PM Eastern today (May 13).

Grove City vs Roger Williams is now underway with the doubles matches from the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, GA.  Video is being provided by Playsight.

It is a little hard to see the scoreboard video, though, and find out who is leading.  Only video is being provided-- there is no backup live scoring on the computer to look to to find out who's leading.

1:26 PM Eastern update-- From what I can ascertain, Grove City is the home team in this contest, and the Wolverines have just swept all 3 doubles matches 8-5, 8-4, 8-5 to take a 3-0 lead over Roger Williams in the first to 5 points wins.

Doubles matches are 1 superset each, first to win 8 games wins the set and match under DIII rules.  Singles matches are coming up, first to win 2 out of 3 sets wins each singles match.  Each singles match is worth 1 point, and there are 6 of them.

2:18 PM singles update- Grove City has taken the first set in 3 of the 6 singles matches, while Roger Williams has taken the first set in 2 matches.  Roger Williams took sets on courts 11 and 15, while Grove City took sets on courts 12, 13, and 16--the Wolverines are leading 4-3 in the first set on court 14.

If results hold, Brandeis will be playing Grove City tomorrow.

3:02 PM Eastern update-- It is official.  Grove City has won 2 singles matches, defeating Roger Williams in round 1.

Brandeis vs Grove City in the second round tomorrow at 3 PM Eastern.

I am just taking a quick peek at the Rome Tennis Center courts 11, 12, and 13-- where Brandeis is playing the doubles matches now vs Grove City.

Brandeis is the visitors on the scoreboard today-- which is a good result.

It is early in the doubles supersets, but Brandeis is leading in all 3 of them. 3-2, 4-1, 3-0

First to 8 games in each superset wins the doubles point for the team.

deiscanton

Brandeis has taken a commanding 3-0 lead over Grove City after doubles.

Brandeis bageled Grove City in 3rd doubles, won 1st doubles 8-5, and took 2nd doubles, 8-4, in that order.

Brandeis needs to win 2 of the 6 singles matches to advance to the third round.  If the Judges win, it would be their first ever NCAA Men's Team Tennis tournament victory.

Winner faces winner of Skidmore vs Southern Virginia tomorrow.

Brandeis has just defeated Grove City in the second round, 5-0, at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia.

Wins at 2nd singles (6-1, 6-0) and 4th singles (6-2, 6-1) clinch Brandeis's first ever team win in a round of the NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Championships in 1 hour and 50 minutes.

Brandeis plays the winner of Skidmore vs Southern Virginia tomorrow with a trip to the national quarterfinals in Chattanooga, TN on the line.

Southern Virginia upset Skidmore, 5-4, last night, in the second round.  Skidmore came in as the Liberty League AQ, and had made many previous appearances in the NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Championships.

The upset marked the Knights's first ever victory in the team part of the NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Championships.

As the Coast to Coast AQ, S. Virginia is making its first ever appearance in the NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Championships.

At 10 AM Eastern this morning, Brandeis is scheduled to play Southern Virginia in the third round.  The winner of the contest will advance to the national quarterfinals next weekend in Chattanooga, TN.

Brandeis vs Southern Virginia is being played in a different area of the Rome Tennis Center that lacks wifi for video broadcasting.

Brandeis brought their own live scoring service, so I should be able to follow the live scoring on line.  At least it is better than what I got for the Southern Virginia vs Skidmore match yesterday-- which no one outside of the Rome Tennis Center could follow live yesterday.

Winner goes on to next weekend and the national quarterfinals in Chattanooga, TN.  Brandeis is ranked #2 in the Northeast, while Southern Virginia is ranked #4 in the South by the NCAA DIII Men's Tennis Committee.  Skidmore came into yesterday ranked #4 in the Northeast.

The live scoring of the match can be followed at brandeisjudges.com/sports/mten/livestats

As just a reminder, this match starts with the doubles matches.  1 superset each.  First to win 8 games and win by 2 wins the superset and gets the point for the team.  I believe that there is a tiebreak if the superset is at 7 games all.  (My guess is from deducing that there are tiebreaks in regular sets if the set is tied at 6 games all.)
(I was right the first time-- the superset is in a tiebreak at 7 games all.)

First to win 5 matches advances to next weekend.

10:35 AM Eastern-- First point of the day goes to Brandeis, as the Judges take second doubles, 8-2.

10:36 AM Eastern-- Second point of the day goes to Brandeis, as the Judges take first doubles, 8-2.  Brandeis leads S. Virginia, 2-0 in this best of 9 matches.  First to 5 advances to the quarterfinals.

11:10 AM Eastern-- Third doubles is on serve, tied at 7 games all.  During the set, S. Virginia broke Brandeis's serve on game 6, but Brandeis broke back S. Virginia's serve later in the set to tie it at 5 games all.

11:23 AM Eastern-- This match is going to be competitive going into singles.  S. Virginia won third doubles 8-7 (I believe that it was S. Virginia winning 9 points to 7 on tiebreak.)  Brandeis still leads the contest, 2-1.

Simultaneous finishes at first and third doubles.  CWRU took first doubles, 8-3, while Wash U took third doubles, 8-3.  It seems that both matches finished at approx the same time, so it is hard to tell by the live scores which team won first.  Wash U took the tiebreak to win at second doubles, 8-7.
